Rhea Royce was less than 5 minutes on screen before she was already killed, but she still felt like a more developed and interesting character than anyone in Rings of Power, which has been running for 5 hours now.

Yeah, just from her intro I was expecting her to be kicking off an entire plot thread. Like "oh, he is a new primary character, she seems to have a lot going on" and then they pull the rug out. Very well handled.

@@creategreatness8823 yea now that you guys say it, it's true that the way it was handled gave it a certain impact...like her death was uninspected it made me feel sad or confused when it happened. Me and my friend are watching Rings of Power together every week and today my friend went..... i actually dont know Any of the characters names. The only names we knew were: Galadriel, Durin and Elrond. The character development is so baaaad. They try to draw you in with scenes like the black elf saving the small boy while outrunning orcs in slow motion.(literally cant remember their names). Its just not having Any intense effect on the viewer when they have no relation to whoever is trying to survive. My expectations were extremely low. Episode 1 and 2 were ok. Better than expected. But now... The show is exactly as I expected. Filled with modern culture and modern politics. I cant stand it. Compare the way Galadriel kills the snow troll to the fight the fellowship has in Moria and how much they struggle with taking down the cave troll.

Hollywood should really take a lesson from the success of "Top Gun: Maverick" and "House of the Dragon". When you have a team that wants to create a good story, you don't have to insult the fans or have media outlets pander to you. Congrats to the two young actors leaving they show, they were great. Alicent grew considerably through the episodes, and turned into the player she will eventually be. huge mistake replacing them... not needed and didn't improve the show just a distraction, yes the princess was annoying at first but I think everyone grew to love her character and she's gone... lame... the queen actress was great from the start... her emotion was dripping at all times... new queen is an HBO girl boss fantasy... lame
@obsidianman50
@obsidianman50 2 жыл бұрын
@@JacksonCharvelRULE You are a complete idiot and so wrong, and you were basing that off just 1 episode with the new actors... The new alicent actor doesn't give off any girl boss fantasy energy at all, she gives off paranoia and spite. Neither does the new Rhaenyra. Both new actors are great and it was definitely worth switching to them from the younger ones since the maturity is necessary for where the characters are going to go. You have to be extremely unintelligent to make such a judgement like that just off that one episode. The new episode completely debunks your nonsense about the new queen being a girl boss fantasy. You should stop watching it if you are so sensitive over literally nothing. It would have been a huge mistake if they kept the younger actresses.

I fear this change in actors is a mistake. I can't recall ever seeing a show or film replacing an adult actor, a fully-done-growing actor (22) with one that's only 8 years older and obviously taller just so they can age her a bit. Are the actresses needing to leave the show for college or what? It's not hard to add some makeup and have actors act older.. We're not talking a 20 year old playing an 80 year old here. I mean Julia Garner could play 19 at 22 and I bet she could have played 29 at that age as well..Yeah I'm rambling. Finger's crossed no season 8!

I hadn't cared at all about GoT or anything, but I gave this show a shot. I can see why people like it. It's intriguing if nothing else. They've mastered the concept of caring enough about a character to see what happens to them next. I think that's the core ingredient you need in a show you're expecting people to watch long term. Believable motivations, and conflicts. It's just well written and acted. And then we have Rings of Power.

yeah could be a big screw up but I think that depends on the actress because it IS this actresses job to make sure she still retains milly's mannerisms and facial expressions regardless of how much she wants to make this character her own milly had an interesting presence on screen, kinda reminded me of tyrion when he would enter a room, I like that she's kind this tiny powder keg and of course she doesn't smile much but when she does it's the greatest thing ever, I've only seen photos but this other actress looks miserable haha, definitely looks older though..albeit only 8 years older I remember watching Vikings and laughing about how Lagertha was having kids and grandkids all while still looking as hot as ever, it felt like they never aged her, seems a lot of actresses refuse it? BUT if you've ever seen Last Kingdom, there's an actress on there who was aged and played a much older character throughout the seasons and she was in her 20's the entire time..so it can damn sure be done

Daemon killing Rhae did not look like a "happy accident" or "mercy killing" to me. He flew there on his dragon. As we know from episode 1, dragons leave their scent on their riders. The horse was probably scared by the dragon scent, although that may not have been the only reason the horse bucked - Rhea's sudden fear and movement may have been factors as well. Mercy killings do not involve crushing a person's head and neck. It's possible Rhea would not have wanted to live that way and may have insulted Daemon because she knew he would kill her. But her death is his fault, either way. That's how I saw it.

Sir Cristen gets on my nerves. He didn’t even love Rhaenyra. He just cares about his oath. Why the hell should Rhaenyra give up the throne for him? She was just horny. Give me a break. And the fact that he later just becomes Alicent’s lackey and hates Rhaenyra so disproportionately is super cringe.

You're right, the show's not as bad as marketing tried to make out, but there are still major problems: 1) 2) child hating propaganda. Not even the only mother seems to ever enjoy her own child, she's even portrayed as a stressed out housewife, even though royal children had their own households in the middle ages. 3)oversimplifying etiquette and ignoring constitutional knowledge (Rhaenyra in particular), which reduces the court to cringe

Imagine if someone told you that GOT would make a rebound(after season eight) and Lord of the Rings(the benchmark of how to adapt fantasy in movie form) has failed so miserably that even normies are getting frustrated, I'd laugh in your face. And then you tell me that Amazon wanted LOTORs to be their own GOT(which that in of itself is hilarious) , had a good alternative in Conan the Barbarian, and then coincidentally fired the showrunner/canceled the project, Ryan Condal, who produced the hit House of the Dragon. Talk about of karmic nuclear bomb dropped on Amazon. And to think, they spent a billion dollars on it. LMAO. Money can't buy quality.

I don't have the numbers, but just from what I can see Amazon is doing a ton more advertising for RoP than Hot D. They have Thursday night football, so it's getting tons of promo there. It's even on billboards, and I can't remember the last time I've seen a TV show on a billboard around here. Which makes it even more satisfying that Hot D is beating RoP.

Do you feel Criston needs to be punished? A big consequence of having him kill someone on a wedding instead of in a tourney is that it's a lot more difficult to explain away the murder on a wedding than it is in a tourney. Being at a tourney it can be ambiguous enough to let him get away with it. But now? He's got to be punished for that, right? I know what will happen in the book, but the way to that result is very different. This shows much more intent, how can anyone supporting the Valeryons possibly support him still being at the court after publicly murdering Laenors special friend and even hitting him?

I don't recall anyone ever critiquing the fact that woke movies tend to be collaborative, utilizing many writers and producers. The reason House is crushing it is because it has one person who created the story. Too many cooks ruins the recipe because there is no over-arcing coherence to the storytelling. Its just a bunch of faux creatives eager to get their names on the credits so they're all trying to out-do each other without consideration of the quality of story.

This last episode was not very well written imo. The whole party scene didn't make any sense. Here are all my issues with that scene: - How did the lover of the velaryon kid knew about Rhaenyra's affair with Criston? The shows explanation is that "he notice by the way he was looking at her", like come on. Makes no sense. Even if that was the case, maybe that could give him a hint of what's going on, but not with enough certainty to start making such strong accusations. Which brings to my next point: - Why did he confront Sir Criston and told him he knew about their secret? What was there to gain from that? Seems like a plot device to justify Criston beating him up and nothing more. But even then: - Why did Criston beat that guy to the death? Right in the middle of the party. He had already confess to the queen, and for no reason I might add, so he didn't seem like he minded much other people knowing his secret. That felt completely out of place. - Why there were no consquences to what he did? Criston should have faced serious charges, being demanded explanations, and probably been arrested if not sentenced to death. The show brushed it off as if it was nothing, and jumped directly to the wedding/suicide scene with no explanation. Like, wtf? You can't just brutally murder someone just like that at a royal wedding party. I've been liking the show so far, but this whole scene reminded me of got' S8 nonsensical writting, where character actions feel unnatural, like they are written to move the plot foward. I hope this is just an isolated case, and not the way the rest of the show will be.

The Green wedding doesn't compare to the Red one, not even remotely. In the Red Wedding (which took part in season 3) we lost a few major characters whose deaths made our slowly built hype since the start of season 2 completely collapse. It was legit upsetting to watch (which was the intention ofc). In the Green wedding we lost what, a character who was just introduced in the very same episode and who nobody cared about? Sure the king also dies there but that was expected because of his illness, doesn't make a difference if it happened a bit earlier/later, unlike the Red wedding deaths that were completely unexpected.

Of course House of the Dragon was going to be better. HBO has been DOING THIS FOR YEARS. They have delivered a ton of hit, great shows. They know if something isn't working, they know what they have to do to fix things, they used GoT talent to bolster and reinforce this series. They are a well-oiled machine at premium TV. Amazon hasn't been in the game for nearly as long and has pretty much never made a massive epic fantasy series. They were never prepared to handle this property.

I don't buy that explanation at all. The writing in that show is a disaster. Do you think they didn't have the resources to get genuinely talented writers and directors willing to do take on one of the most beloved fantasy series ever with a nearly unlimited budget? Come on. Lots of extraordinary talented people would have jumped at that chance. They hired the wrong people. The problem is the writing and direction, not the big budget effects and scale of the project, which actually look pretty good much of the time, particularly the first shots arriving at Numenor.

They COUD have pulled it off with the right decisions, but thinking money was all they needed...they didn't properly monitor and shepherd the project to make sure it was actually good...because they don't really know what it means to deliver a great piece of epic fantasy TV. Again, no excuses. But if you ask me "Is HBO more likely to deliver something good or is Amazon more likely to deliver something good" in the TV world....I pick HBO every time.
