The whole “dose makes the poison” is incredibly misunderstood. It’s only completely true for some poisons, and for other poisons it’s more like the dose decides if there’s a significant effect. For oxygen the dose does make the poison, there’s some optimal amount for humans and far above/below that you die. Cyanide however does not do this since even a molecule if it gets to your mitochondria is basically. Now of course one molecule isn’t significantly harmful, but it’s still causing a toxic effect and therefore a poison.

I have nothing against the carnivore diet except all the BS they fling around as in: all research is flawed so you must only fully trust their anecdotal info, or their failure to acknowledge that high intake of meat in some people can lead to gout which it does, or hunter and gatherer tribes past and even modern like the Hadza Tribe consume only meat. For the record and based on researchers who have first hand observed, documented, and monitored the Hadza’s dietary habits , the Hadza are more like opportunistic omnivores. If anything their diets are heavier in consumption of tubers, vegetables, and honey than meat. Meat is only something they usually have upon a successful hunt, which usually averages a successful kill once every 20 days on average. And in that respect their diet is a closer match to a Mediterranean Diet than hardcore canivore diet. You can often determine which channel content providers are probably more in it for the clicks than actually providing useful valid information by virtue of their incendiary video titles; "They're Lying to you!", "The biggest crime in the history of medicine!", etc. Click upon such videos at your own peril. Or at least with an arched eyebrow.

This video is great. I think the studies are the most important. He doesn’t show a single randomized controlled study. So what human studies are you referring to?
@739jep6 ай бұрын
The source he provided in the video was a human study. There’s a link for it in the video description.
@richpalmer98866 ай бұрын
@@739jep you missed the point. The point was the control put in place for the studies. The study he posted is based on research by other articles. Those articles are vague at best without strong defining terms or controls to evaluate. Saying cruciferous veggies have anti caner properties, with what bio-availability? What about prevention by recognizing mitochondria dysfunction? The causes of that, which leads to actual prevention.
@739jep6 ай бұрын
@@richpalmer9886 I didn’t miss a point , you simply made no point. You asked a question - ‘so what human studies are you referring to? ‘ - and I answered it. ‘He doesn’t show a single randomised controlled study’ In this video I’m not sure he claimed he was going to , he specifically said we have ‘human studies’ . We can’t really do randomised control trials for cancer outcomes because 1) it’s unethical and 2) cancer takes too long to appear - that’s why we use other types of studies. The study he provided was an umbrella review of several meta analysis/systemic reviews of several types of studies including epidemiological (human studies) in vitro and animal studies. After consider all these forms of evidence the paper found a vegetables are associated with a reduced risk of all cause mortality , cancer and depression. There was a dose response analysis that revealed per a 100g/d increment was associated with a 10% decrease in risk of all cause mortality. This is the opposite of what you’d expect to see if vegetables caused cancer. This evidence , while not perfect , is a lot stronger than simply identifying carcinogens in vegetables and implying they cause cancer.

I will say. I gave up veggies for 6 months. Fir some reason my arthritis, bloating and gas almost went completely away. Must just be a coincidence. Veggies are definitely better then what most people stuff down their throats.

Pro tip to all humans, if you eat plant foods, don’t overdo it, especially if they are high in fiber. I’m a gung-ho kinda guy, and when someone says eat more fiber, I eat ALL the fiber. Initially, that was a mistake. Had to shelf my gung-ho attitude and stop eating multiple cans of chickpeas per day. They made me feel uncomfortably bloated and gassy. The sheer volume of gas was somewhat entertaining at first, but not sustainable in my marriage. Turns out, each plant has its own fibers, so if you eat normal amounts of lots of different plants, you don’t turn into a giant fart. Go low and slow with the fiber. As your gut makes more of the bacteria to handle that specific fiber, you can then tolerate larger amounts if desired. Or just spread the love to small amounts of lots of different kinds

Really great Video Dr. Norton! Love it! I guess these kind of people would even favour CRISPRED Vegetabales with no carcinogenic genes in there anymore. Do these people know how many mutations are happening inside our body every day? And still we roam around not being diagnosed immediately with cancer all the time. Our body has these amazing mechanisms and protein complexes helping to fix all these issues. Thanks for doing such a great science communication content! Keep going!

If you have digestive distress when you eat vegetables, and the solution is to stop eating vegetables, then that means that vegetables are inherently bad for your digestive system or else they would be recommended to those with IBS, crohns, UC etc. You won’t say to someone with those conditions to not eat meat because the meat will make it worse would you! Therefore, vegetables are inherently problematic.

I wrote this rather extensive and heavily cited reply to a video by a guy proclaiming carnivore is ideal or best for human, some iteration of that. His reply basically came down to, "thanks for the science, but I feel better on this so I'm going to suggest it" even though I discussed how an elimination diet like carnivore could make someone feel better initially, over the long term it's not ideal for health. I can post that lengthy reply here if anyone wants it, but yeah my take away from this interaction along with many others I've seen is these people just rely on anecdotal experience and cannot seem to fathom the long term consequences of this type of diet based on current evidence.
