Look what happened with the Twitch mod that blew this up: most people didn't believe him because he didn't have the receipts, which is perfectly reasonable stance to take. Without the cooperation of whoever Disrespect was texting, Twitch was basically stuck between a rock and a hard place. Twitch almost certainly reported it to the feds, but again without the cooperation of the former minor there would be nothing they could do unless the texts were so explicit that the texts themselves were illegal. And that sort of thing was easily detectable with bots even in 2017. That it wasn't means both were using euphemisms and slang to get around it. And that is always open to interpretation and 'it was just jokes' excuses.

There were almost certainly NDAs/gag orders which are issued by the judge, Twitch couldn't do this on a whim since it includes a minor and they have special protections, hence why an ex employee did this. Twitch isn't some golden child, they are like every other company, greedy and self centered, and only an idiot would potentially violate a court order by releasing those logs to the public, even IF there was no gag order, if you mess up ONE redaction, miss a few ambiguous messages, that opens you up for litigation from the victim or DD, especially surrounding a seriously sensitive topic. Now imagine a super popular service like Twitch opening itself up to litigation for disclosing this? I don't think Twitch is some jail bird that desperately wanted to reveal the truth, they had a lot of public trust to lose if this came out, just like DD, but it wasn't like they went out of their way to silence it. If that were the case, they simply wouldn't have banned the guy and let it all smooth out under the rug.

I get it though, when people hear minor the optics makes them think of a kid. A 17 year old girl who looks 25 can still be a minor, and that is far from being a kid especially in today's climate.

The most telling thing is he keeps spouting shit from his mouth but not once says "I didn't know they were under 18." Not that I'd instantly believe him, but it's so far outside the realm of reality that he doesn't even consider it as a possible explanation to try and defuse the controversy.
