First of all: I would die to read this comic book. Second of all: I don't know why but I see Trailblazer as being a sort of hidden leader. Like everyone defers to Screentime or whoever else is supposed to be leader, but Trailblazer is the one who keeps the group together and encourages them to take action. It would be so cool to see her character grow from just being a back seat leader to eventually gaining the confidence with the help of her team so they can all help each other. It would also be an amazing conflict for Screentime with his more negative view of women to learn that they are equals and to learn to have compassion that all his time on the internet took from him.

I want to read THIS comic. Like, there’s so much potential for the dynamics that you kinda made up/headcanoned. Like, the start would be extremely rocky. Screentime is an incel so his interactions with Trailblazer and Snowflake is strained...there’s also a potential power struggle for “leader” between him and Safespace, only Safespace is less of a leader and just more of a personable dude. Screentime just perceives Safespace as a threat to his control over the group...even if it doesn’t really exist. Snowflake would probably have a really antagonistic relationship with everyone, except their brother. I can see them being more slow to warm up to other characters, though I think they would start getting along really well with Trailblazer first. Snowflake would constantly be calling Screentime out on his bs, but it wouldn’t be until Trailblazer (up until this point she would be just desperately trying to keep the group together because of her abandonment issues, at any cost) snapped and screamed at Screentime. Maybe it came after Snowflake got made that Trailblazer refused to take sides when Screentime was clearly the one in the wrong? Safespace is the friendly, easy going guy that never really gets involved with the conflicts of the inner workings of the group. Everyone gets along with him, and if they don’t for whatever plot reason he sort of shrugs it off and doesn’t let it bother him. It’s not super obvious, but he’s probably the most emotionally mature of the group. I could see him going up to his friends after rough plot arcs and asking them if they’re okay. Maybe the ONE time that Safespace really breaks the pattern of being easy going is at the most pivotal part of Screentime’s arc of becoming less of an incel? Like, this would happen the same time Trailblazer snapped and called him out, maybe just before? There would come a point where Snowflake wouldn’t be able to handle it and we as an audience would be getting tired of it. His character would need to be developed. Snowflake would declare that they wouldn’t work with him if he kept acting like this, B-Negative would be insisting that Screentime was acting just fine and it was Snowflake being too touchy, and Safespace would put his foot down and go “my sibling is right you need to shape up or I can’t work with you any more.” Trailblazer would be pressured to chose a side and pretty quick she would side with the twins because she /was/ getting the shaft more often than not, even if she didn’t want to lose any friends. The twins would be much better friends to her at this point. This whole situation, on top of maybe some outside plot interference, would make Screentime begin his arc into being less of an incel. And then B-Negative! He’s still a relatively young vampire, and that whole concept could go so far! Like, he develops his code of “who he eats” much more throughout the series. And because he’s only been alive for like, a decade or two more than the rest of the group he still has lots of adolescent/young adult milestones that he probably missed in his partying. With those extra years, he’s probably much more knowledgeable of the underworld criminal aspects that this team would be dealing with quite often. His slow acceptance into the group despite his seeming blasé-ness towards everyone but Screentime could be pretty central, especially after Screentime became less of an ass. Trailblazer would have a lot of underlying angst, since her problems would probably be the most invisible. She would be the last one, except for maybe B-Negative, to confess her home situation and other mental health issues to the group. I could also see a few fun “let’s all go to [insert chaotic alternate universe]” arcs because she would have to bring a teammate or two along at least occasionally. I think that they would be varying levels of independence among the group. Safespace and Snowflake have a “normal” home life, so they have normal hang outs at their house with movie nights and family dinners with the rest of the group. They never go by Trailblazer’s foster home, unless it’s an emergency and they couldn’t get in contact with her otherwise. Maybe there’s a foster sibling or two that she kinda looks out for, that tags along to hangouts and eventually finds out about the super hero stuff. Screentime has the house to himself almost all the time, but the group wouldn’t often go over there for long periods of time unless his dad was for-sure out of town. It would be really interesting to have their gear and stuff stored there towards the start of the comics, but have to have that shift to B-Negative’s place because Screentime’s dad was getting suspicious. B-Negative, of course, would have his own apartment/house that would be kind of a dump. I think that eventually it would become their superhero “base” and Trailblazer and Screentime both would spend a ton of time there, definitely more than the twins even though they would do stuff normal stuff like homework there too, just because they didn’t want to go home. Even if B-Negative isn’t home, I feel like all of the team would have keys. This got way longer than I thought it would but!! There’s so much potential!!

One thing I wish you drew attention to with Trailblazer’s story was a line in the source, something like “her power comes from god, but not the god you’re thinking of”. She could’ve been religious, devoted to a god she met in another world. Maybe the god is one that her tribe worshipped and is her patron, or maybe they just made her *think* that her power comes from them, and is just manipulating her.. . Having her focus on Greek and Norse mythology is a bit strange, considering you said she cares a lot about learning about her heritage, though I do love your idea for her to have other magical artifacts from worlds she explores. Maybe she and Screentime could (eventually, once he gets over his misogyny) bond over not having directly combat-relevant powers, and instead using objects :p
@Dracosfire144 жыл бұрын
Another thing that stuck out to me was that basically every god does actually exist in the Marvel universe. Which is the one area I feel Kat could've focused on with all of them. Like, the original version of B Negative wasn't just any vampire, he got his vampirism from Morbius the Living Vampire. What's their dynamic/relationship like? What does he think of Blade? Imagine Trailblazer meeting Thor (Odinson and/or Jane Thor, both are great) Maybe Screentime admires Iron Man as a good role model for scientists? A little integration would be cool.

I really love this!!! but just some note I wanted to have on Screentime's mom- she could be taken as a bit of "Miss Saigon" trope, a submissive Asian woman who slaves away for her strong American white mans who whisked her away from her backwater homeland; personally, as an Asian afab, i think this could be easily avoided by showing that Screentime's mom is strong and willful in her own way, despite the concessions she's had to make to survive, all of which Screentime can't see. All in all, I really enjoyed the detail and care you put into these designs, and after watching this video, I feel so close with these characters!!
@KatBlaque4 жыл бұрын
Yeah tbh, i edited down my description of Screentime because it was so long (it's the longest of them all), but my read of her is that she's actually very very strong, but her partner wanted that sort of submissive asian woman and didn't get it, and abuses her. I've always found the submissive asian woman archetype to be... interesting mostly because none of the women I grew up with are like that, quite the opposite. I should have explained that in my view (obviously) his view of his mother is very tainted and inaccurate. He doesn't really see what she's done for him and doesn't understand how much she's done to protect him. And in my mind, he identifies less with his asian side and his mother is one of his only connections to that.
@mirajara91494 жыл бұрын
What you’ve done demonstrates what I think is so unsatisfying about the official designs. It’s great to have characters of different ethnicities, sizes, genders, family situations... but that can’t be the be-all-end-all of their personalities, nor can it be an extra trait tacked on for fun. You’ve really taken into account both how their identities affect their personalities and lives, as well as what they’re like apart from that. The result is a bunch of dynamic, unique characters with plenty of interesting parts to write about, both advantages and flaws. They’re _people_!! Basically you’re a master of character design and I can’t wait to see what you do next. I’m already living for your other videos, so this series is a whole new dimension of awesome 💕

That was my first thought too! In my rehash I made him the grandson of a well known technologist. He’s always grown up around computers, and has always been fascinated by them and how they work. His future was bright. Then, one day, he was in the lab where his grandfather worked and got sealed in a gas chamber with the other four New Warriors who all got there by different accounts. The gas in question was specifically designed and engineered to provoke a genetic mutation in the subject: to create the next wave of Mutants, if you will. They all got different (remodelled) abilities, but I’ll talk about those in another comment. Overdrive’s (my new name for him) body now produced nanobots as if they were red or white blood cells. This gave him the ability to hack and control anything, just as long as it has a WiFi connection.

But I think he’d still have to make sure the website he’s using for the information was still credible and was correct, cause that’s a problem everyone deals with when searching on the internet. I also thought he might be very easily influenced by the internet he indulges in, Like he got onto an incel platform and quickly picked up their beliefs.

One of my critiques of Trailblazer is that its cool she is a mythology nerd, but I feel it would have been better to connect it to Indigenous cultures. Why doesn't she find something from a story from Seminole culture? Or other cultures? Well, I don't know how much that would be okay or cool. And also how much stuff it easily available.
@KatBlaque4 жыл бұрын
@@zeroslash2050 My only thought was she was disconnected from her culture and doesn't know much about it, but is learning and trying. She's fostered,so I imagine she's removed from her culture (like a lot of foster kids, especially Native Amercian ones are).

Kat Blaque I do like that about your characters, too. I feel like there’s a lot of room for all of them to learn and grow, and one of Trailblazer’s story arcs could be reconnecting with her culture through her backpack.

I know very few fat people shaped like a chubby diamond though. I feel like her shape was badly handled. Kat could have drawn her a bit on the bigger side, but the original looked to me like the worst silhouette for a comic character. the main concept of screentime is like someone heard the theme song for freakazoid! once but never watched the show and tried to create a character out of that. Love the dark incel backstory you created (tho idk why he also kinda reminds me of Dib from Invader Zim)
@laoniboba4 жыл бұрын
I didn't do this for the others Warriors, but why not start now: When it came to screentime the name felt kind of strange since it was quite too on the nose, but the way you described him it felt perfect. Screentime isn't just how long your mom lets you sit at your computer. Screentime means the amount of time a person is given or the amount of attention a person gets in a show. It makes sense since he idealizes his dad and wants to be recognized by him. That combined with his dad's popularity he gets a lot of screentime in the eyes of others, but ironically not in the eyes of the man he really wants. Trailblazer is just *chefs kiss*. I love her concept thick and thin. I never had much problems with her since she was pretty much perfect. I love the idea of her love for mythology and fantasy playing a huge role in how she manages her powers. I'd also love to see the funny interaction between her and actual Thor when he realizes she took his belt. Also if they reference the MCU (which they most likely won't) I'd imagine the heartfelt conversation her and Thor would have about there insecurities because Thor gained a lot of weight and thought of himself as almost helpless and he could share that experience with Trailblazer. B-Negative is just edgy boy central, but its not bad. His relationship with Screentime could develop into something that could bring the team a lot closer or tear them a part. B-Negative seeing Screentime as a mirror not only feeds Screentime's pain, but allows B-Negative room to grow as a person. Although he now gets a lot of attention for his looks, he could recognize his change in appearance doesn't change who he is. I see a huge linear concept between all New New Warriors which is Self-Exceptance and furthermore Self-Expression. As a gen z myself, its something a lot of us struggle with, and I'm sure a lot of people that aren't gen z struggle with as well. Screentime desires recognition from his father (Self-Exceptance), but wants others to see him how he wants to be seen (Self-Expression). Trailblazer feels a disconnect from her heritage (Self-Exceptance), but despite her shortcomings and insecurities used her powers to give her a sense of worth (Self-Expression). B-Negative used to be a huge nerd and sees himself in others like Screentime (Self-Exceptance), but overall is a more chill, go-with-the-flow character (Self-Expression). Safespace doesn't care for labels and owns who he is (Self-Exceptance) and makes it clear how free-spirited and open-minded he is (Self-Expression). Snowflake is gaining confidence in their body while being open about who they are (Self-Exceptance) and not letting that interfere with their ultra-mega weebness that caters to their charm as a person (Self-Expression).

i really love what you did with these designs!! but a red flag kinda went up for me when you said screentime wasn't good at reading social cues/when he DID speak, he was very blunt. those are pretty common neurodivergent traits and it really rubbed me the wrong way that it was part of the reason he was (for lack of a better word lol) an incel or part of those types of communities. in my own experience, i've seen a lot of nerd/scientist characters with obviously neurodivergent traits that cause them to be bad with social interaction, and as a result, start to despise/antagonize women (whether that be part of a serious characterization, or just a running joke). it bothers me to see another character who can't get along with girls because of obviously neurodivergent traits and having a resentment towards them as a result. i'm almost certain this was not your intentions, but it's something to be aware of in the future. love your videos so much - please take care!

tbh i read this as well but i didnt mind it, as it is something that happens irl (as an autistic person myself who also found comfort in online communities -& has seen people like me find comfort in more toxic communities like kiwifarms, 4chan or reddit). but being aware of this and the pitfalls that can come w it is good! Like having character development in that aspect.
@morbidkoala86784 жыл бұрын
@@mivical my point is less "this never happens in real life" and more "portraying the character this way is harmful" yknow? we've seen this trope so, so often that another character just like it won't be providing anything new or productive, it's just the same stereotype that perpetuates harmful ideas in the minds of neurotypical audiences. if it were one character like this, it wouldn't be a big deal, but when it's so many prominent characters, all following the same trope with the same harmful traits relating back to being neurodivergent, it shapes the way society at large treats nd people, and it also shapes the way nd people will be able to see themselves. again - it's not that nd people can't be toxic, or be a part of these toxic spaces, it's saying that perpetuating the same harmful ideas isn't productive, and can actually cause a lot of problems for how nd people are treated.
@mivical4 жыл бұрын
@@morbidkoala8678 thats fair. i think if she worked on subverting the trope it could still work e.g. with a character arc it could be a really cool example of a more complex and multifaceted character in that direction but i totally get where youre coming from and your preference to see something different and less explored rather than this frequently visited stereotype that does influence the way people catogerize and treat us in real life.

I bet that your version of Screentime would also be really pushy about trying to replicate and improve on any weapons Trailblazer is able to put out of her magic backpack, probably failing most of the time due to the difficulties presented by their magical nature. Hell, I'd imagine he would also probably try to get all the members to let him do upgrades on their stuff. It would make for an interest dynamic of him genuinely wanting his team to be as well equipped as they could be, but getting on everyone's nerves over feeling the entitlement to dictate what they should all do, which could make them eventually forbidding him from doing so. Specially since it might feel like he's doing this to compensate over his own lack of combat oriented powers. This would also bring on great interactions whenever they meet another hero from outside the team. Maybe they feel like they're being reckless in not letting their tech guy help them the way he's meant to, or maybe they could tell them to flat out remove ST from the team before he causes them to disband.

You telling me Screen Time just sUrFs 🏄♀️ the wEb BrA!!? Also, so I wonder if Screen Time’s story will be him overcoming his misogyny and understanding rhetoric? Also, my dude, Trailblazer got me in the feels because I know many First Nations foster children and their mistreatment in that system. I think that it would be interesting if she was Canadian because Aboriginals make up almost half the population of children in foster care and there isn’t a lot of First Nation girls represented in American media that reflects the issues many First Nations people face, such as residential school, and the soft genocide that the Canadian government has done opposed to the outright genocide of many of the American First Nations. I say this because I have a friend that said he rarely sees Cree or First Nations representation in popular media (he is Métis and had been raised on a reserve). Anyways, love the stories! My gawd!
