I'm working on a living dex thats probably just as crazy. An origin mark dex, having everything that can have a pentagon, everything that can have a clover, etc. about halfway through the gameboy vc games, thankfully gba-3ds i have save files already so i wont have to start from scratch on those and those will go much faster. gotta get through the time crunch before pokemon bank closes. about 50% complete on everything all together

Me personally i didnt catch all the scatterbugs and spewpas but i DID catch all Vivillon forms. However, I used my spare 2DS as a vessel by constantly changing its region by using european and japanese console nands. It was a fun night that night trading to my main xy copy all of the vivillon patterns from my 2ds. Also I did manage to get every furfrou trim from GO by definitely totally travelling across the globe (no i didnt)

When X and Y first came out I just did hundreds of Scatterbug for Scatterbug trades over the GTS until I got all the Vivillons. I only got like 5 with me as the OT from trades with friends but I at least got them all in Pokeballs.

@@ThedomiNATION honestly scatterbug was the most overpowered Pokemon in X and Y as a collector because as soon as I got access to the daycare and Maison I bred and hatched thousands of Scatterbugs and traded em for more Scatterbugs. Then you hit the Maison and cashed out. Sure most of your trades would net you common patterns but you’d get plenty of rare places cause it was such a low effort trade which was also likely to be in a Pokeball cause it was so basic. And if you struck gold and got a rare pattern you could very easily trade it for legendaries. All before the second gym

Lol! I want to go on record as saying you are a bad influence. So, I did something similar with my Living Dex. Started last year and started cycling out all the Pokemon I had with ones from the first game they became available. I didn't do Pokeballs only though as I started trying to match colors to balls as soon as that was an option (love using Soak to catch a Blue non-water type in water centric balls easier xD) anyway, I had finished my goal late last year. But now, with time running out, I have decided to future-proof my Living Origin Dex by going on this journey AGAIN and making sure to get a male AND female (where applicable) of each pokemon so that if they add anymore cross gen evolutions later on, I will still have Gen1-Gen7 pokemon available from their Origin games without missing out. So, my Living Dex consists of Origin Dex, Shiny Dex, and Pokemon Go Dex. With soon to be an entire dex of just backup Origin just in case. Anyway, thank you for the entertaining videos and pushing me to go even further (beyond) than I had before. Also, my Shiny Living Dex recently passed 700, so I am super happy about that.

@ThedomiNATION do you feel the backup Origin Dex is going a bit far? I feel like it is, but then I look at how many cross gen evos we got just in SV and then I am like.... yeah, OCD to the maximum. I still wish that they would bring gen1-7 ports to the Switch (or even Switch 2) BUT I NEED them to give us Origin Marks for Gen 3, 4, and 5 plus make them retroactive. Might be wishful thinking but it can be done. They could even sell us the games again and I am willing to bet a large portion of the fan base would buy them when it means not being cut off from those original games/generations going forward. And don't get me started on the fact that Spinda can't be sent to/from BDSP or GO. Lol

I got impatient and was just changing the date and using another Gen 3 game to exploit the daily reset. It would have taken a full month to do 100% legit.

Zygarde 10% is technically considered a Generation 7 Pokemon because it was introduced in Sun and Moon. Other than that, good job with your Living Dex. I have been doing a Premier Ball Living Dex, and I'm caught up as far as I can go.

The zygarde thing, it's more akin to the different Oricorio forms than Melloeta, there are 4 boxable forms of Zygarde just like there are 20 boxable forms of scatterbug

Even though I completely agree that a fancy vivillon from x and y is definitely cooler than what I'm about to say, there might be a possible that anyone who reads this could transfer a scatterbug/spewpa from x and y all the way up to scarlet and violet to evolve into a fancy pattern vivillon, although I have not tried it yet.

As I explained in the video, scatterbug and spewpa have the same forms as the vivillons. This is stored internally and causes the scatterbug/spewpa to evolve into the correctly assigned form they need to. So any scatterbug and spewpa caught from X and Y even sent into Scarlet and Violet, will always evolve into what pattern vivillon they were assigned based on the region the 3DS was set to when the save file was created when they were generated!

For the Zygarde form debate, I would personally say you would need 4 Zygarde for bonus completion. According to Bulbapedia, Zygarde with Aura Break and Zygarde with Power Construct are internally considered to be different forms from each other. Really the only difference between the Zygarde ability forms and Greninja’s ability forms is that Zygarde has an item that lets you change it.

So it would be weird to list battle bond greninja and own tempo rockruff as separate but not power construct zygarde. Quick question on the Vivillons… if you trade eggs and receive an egg from, say, a Japanese language copy, does it have the “Japanese” language mark on it or ENG mark (assuming you transferred over to English)? Language is separate from region! So you’ll have to get a scatterbug egg that says it’s from Japan in order for it to be an elegant pattern! If you’re talking strictly language tags (like for Masuda method) I think it depends on who hatches it and not who bred for the egg!

I'm doing the same challenge and basically following along. My gen 6 dex is almost complete except for the Vivillons. Can you really change the region on your 3ds without any problems? I always thought you'd lose your online access, poke bank and everything if you changed the region. So can you actually get poke bank back if you change your location back to your default?

You should be able to change your region without losing any software. I originally thought that you had to format your 3DS every time but Echo told me you can just change it in the settings. So you won’t lose anything! It would as if you just moved! However you can only have access to so many locations due to the 3DS’s region locking.

It doesn’t really matter region as I said in the video when I mentioned the hoopa and volcanion. I just care that they are obtained from the earliest generation of games they can be obtained from. So it would be a generation 9 floette but since that’s the earliest generation you’d be able to catch it from anyway that would be fine. As for whatever region it will be from, it’ll just be what the game says it’s from. Which is more than likely either Kalos or some other name we don’t know yet like how they called old Sinnoh, Hisui.

You would likely need a second system to do it on and be able to trade to a main save. That’s what I did. I had a second system I changed my region on, then traded the scatterbug to my main 3DS

I feel like after the 3ds servers go down, there'll be new fan servers similar to wiimfi, and there may be a new "dns exploit" so you might be able to get all your gen 6 mythicals to say "From Kalos" someday! Though it might require a modded 3ds, I think it'll be fairly legit when it comes to home flagging pokemon. As long as those fan servers come online before Bank also shuts down. Can't wait for Alola!

If you have a North American 3DS you can set your region to Saudi Arabia as I did in this video. If not you’ll have to either trade for one or hope for someone from the sandstorm locations to add you in Pokémon go then send you gifts from the locations so you can send the postcards into scarlet and violet and catch them there!

Pokémon got gender variants in later generations, so I think the best thing we could do to be prepared is to catch both genders of all the Pokémon that have gender forms, not just variants. Eevee for example got a gender variant with the Let's Go releases in 2018 if I'm not mistaken.

Eevee is the only example of a Pokémon getting a new gender difference post gen 4. They also don’t really do gender differences anymore so it’s unlikely they would add more for later generations of already existing Pokémon

I am about to finish my gen 1 origin form dex. Just making my way through Legends Arceus for H-Growlithe line and H-Voltorb line. Then on to Gen 2! Trying to get this dex before the 3DS servers shuts down is most likely not happening. Hopefully we can still use the WiFi exploit for Gen IV and V, otherwise I’ll be forced to catch them in later games. Also, no copy of Pokémon Ranger to get that special manaphy so probably just catching that one in Legends Arceus as well. Have to accept that I can’t catch every Pokémon from those games. Still debating on the Pomeg glitch for Deoxys in Gen III, but not looking forward to beating the game 4 times to do so.

Really just sucks these Pokémon aren’t just naturally obtainable in their original games. Only thing we can hope for at this point is all these games being released on Switch 2 as virtual releases, and unlocking mythical events like virtual Crystal did for Celebi.

I really hope they do the virtual console release like with celebi in Crystal! As for the dns exploit, that will for sure work after the online gets shut down for the 3DS! Those exploits are for the DS whose online shut down so many years ago! The way it works is Nintendo simply shuts down their servers, they can’t hack into our systems and disable wifi for them! So the fan made servers that the dns exploit uses will still be up and you’ll still be able to connect to them! There’s even a chance that there will be a dns exploit for the gen 6 and 7 events once the online shuts down! As for manaphy I think you can get a manaphy egg from the gen 4 dns exploit! So you could still get it from gen 4!

Every stream I do so many people are like “I found x amount of shinies doing this same challenge!” Or what I got a bunch for this gen was “I found a random shiny where you’re at right now when I was completing gen 6!” Hopefully I can find something in gen 7 I would love to get one before gen 9 comes around 😭😭

I might do it in the Region of origin so all the Pokémon in the hisui Dex will be caught In hisui or everything in the sinnoh platinum Dex will be caught in Sinnoh or hisui

It would’ve been great if it wasn’t but that was the best I could do after searching for so long. But it’s a legit event vivillon just a copy of another one that’s out there somewhere…

It will evolve into whatever form your region is locked to. The form is determined when the egg is received which is why I traded for the eggs of the other regions instead of trying to breed them myself. If I tried to breed them myself I would only get polar pattern

It's sad that Pokémon like Spikey-eared Pichu and Eternal Flower Floette are stuck in old games and can't be traded. I hope that we at least get Eternal Floette considering the new Legends game literally has AZ's name in it (I know it's technically Z-A not A-Z but it's still interesting)

I hope Z-A let us stay furfro in that forms and don't revert then while they in the box Also if you want to do 150% I would say you should make 4 zygarde. At least that's what I did make for mine 2 as 50% and 2 as 10%. While one if each has the ability that makes it be a 100% form Did the same for darmanitian I think is the English name? The fire gen 5 ape since it's the same case as Greninja I would say

So I got a few comments on zygarde and event though you can change the ability with the zygarde cube, according o Bulbapedia, internally, it is considered a separate form. So you’re essentially changing the form with the cube. I would classify it as a non required form like the scatterbug/spewpa and mothim. So I’ll probably go and catch a couple more when I make the gen 7 living Dex video. As for darmanitan. Zen mode is only a temporary battle form like a mega evolution and the ability that allows it to change does not consider it to be a separate form. As you can simply use an ability patch for that ability change! So having two of each darmanitan wouldn’t really count the same way. And for furfrou, I guarantee the different forms will be boxable once legends ZA comes out! This is because the pc issue reverting the forms was fixed in gen 7 but bank still had the issue. Home doesn’t have the issue as you can bring in the separate forms from GO without them reverting! So unless they for some reason reintroduce the pc issue that gen 6 had, we should be good!

I’d recommend grabbing a spare Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde from XY in case the give new forms in Legends ZA and we lose bank connectivity before ZA to HOME connectivity is released

This Is a sub category of a living dex, a forme dex. (Catch every forme of every pokemon) the normal living dex only requires every individual species so you won't need both a female and male venasaur for example. If you want to start a living dex I would definitely suggest just doing a normal one instead of a forme.
