Yeah I agree. It’s even worse in Pokémon Go where you can’t even name Pokémon some of the moves like lick (they may have fixed that but idk it was a big deal before)

Love this video. About to start my origin dex for Gen 1 right now after completing it for Gens 6-9. I am a bit confused why you catch extra Gen 1 Pokemon for their later gen evolutions. Like...a Rhyperior is originally from Sinnoh. I feel like catching a Rhyhorn from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and evolving it there would still be completely valid. Why did you choose to go about it this way? I'm apprehensive to catching every single Pokemon that has later evolutions because if future generations introduce new evos when Poke Transporter/Bank support is ACTUALLY discontinued...you'd have no way to actually get them with a GB origin mark.

You can make whatever rules you want! For me I just like the satisfaction of catching later gen Pokémon from the oldest games they can be caught from! I bank does shut down, I’ll find some alternative way but for now it’s how I’ve personally liked doing my living Dex

I highly doubt that as it says they plan to do more events for the other dexes. My theory is they got just way too much hate for all the shiny locks in SV and now they’re starting to make up to the players for it 🤣

@ maybe it’s just a coincident it was released a few days after the Tera leak! But I’m all for it. And you have to actually work for it. Imagine if instead of just distributing one, it unlocked the ability to shiny hunt the Meloetta in Indigo Disk.

I agree that it shouldn't matter where your pokemon is, be it the game they came from, bank or else where. For me, being able to have all my shinies in future games and not stuck back in time is good for me. I still have a shiny arceus that I'll have to keep in gen 5 since you can't transfer it up but it was still really cool that I managed to both hunt and catch it...keep up everything Dom, the shiny living dex will be finished!

There’s a few ways to do it but for me, I use an r4 card on my ds with the software called gba backup tool, in order to back up my gba saves. For ds and 3ds saves I use a homebrewed 3ds with the software called checkpoint!

I definitely agree with your thoughts on sending them up - the shiny 'economy' doesn't matter at all here because these are for a collection, and to that same point a collection spread across several games just doesn't hit the same. The only time I'd keep a shiny in older games is if I hunt a duplicate specifically for that purpose

I have every Pokémon other than walking wake and iron leave which both I caught in rare Kurt balls before they were easy to get in S/V and regret it now because I didn’t start my full pokeball living dex until right after they released

I actually got that shiny K. Vulpix in Motostoke Gym on Christmas eve launch year of Pokémon Shield on my first playthrough of the game without looking for a shiny at all. It was full odds as well, I was so happy. I caught her in a Heal Ball, and named her Biscuit. She's now in my main Pokémon Scarlet save file, and I believe I EV trained her, and gave her an ability patch to give her Drought. I remember my hype VIVIDLY.

Being able to rename non-named Pokemon you didn’t catch is great, was finally able to name a Pokemon I caught in Black and White back around when Black and White were first released As for another Pokemon, I nicknamed it but years later wanted to change it’s name so I do perform some “hex work” in order to make that possible

I’m about to start rng manipulating Pokémon in fire red and leaf green, however, i’m going to use an external device to find my SID, i’m not hacking anything in or out or changing anything, I just can’t be bothered to RNJ manipulate one Pokémon 80 times with different timings to potentially find out if I have a specific SID, and then the Pokémon inevitably not being shiny and me having to retry with a different SID, but rng manipulation in Pokémon sapphire and Ruby heart gold soul silver and all the DS games are super easy

I've been RNG manipping for shinies on Ruby and some Japanese RSE carts, and even though they're "guaranteed" I still have attachment. The Girafarig who ran away 5 times before he stayed, the regice who struggled himself down 3 times, the latios I gave up and masterballed, the ralts I waited 40 minutes for the frame on and got first try. The 9 identical numels that happened while I was trying to get a machop. It's not exactly the same as Mt full odds Poochyena that enabled all the manips, but it's still special to me. The nidoking egg that took two days can go *REDACTED* tho.

Completely agree. I rng manipped the TID/SID for my gen 4 games for cute charm. I have a shiny living dex for all cute charmable pokemon in Pearl, my first pokemon game. I felt that really was a tribute to it. Im working on Heart Gold right now and let me tell you… 8 friggin hours trying to get riolu *after* waiting the month it takes to get decent odds of encountering it. 21 riolu lost only to be stopped by realizing i could repel trick it 😭 But now im ribbon mastering the riolu, now lucario, so it has proof it came for gen 4. Her name is Raja :) Edit: dont even get me started on a pre kanto larvitar… i wanted to use tyranitar for the first time during the story 😂

I really love how you nickname your shinies, I’m always sort of hesitant to name my pokemon because I normally end up regretting it later down the line, but I think it does make them more personalised; now I’m thinking I might give nicknames to my (eventual) shiny livingdex mons too! (Also Grocerysaur is an amazing name, top tier, show stopping)

Yeah I love the uniqueness the names give my shinies! Sometimes I have nickname ideas way in advance, sometimes I look online to get inspiration for what I could theme the name around, and others I just ask viewers what I should name them! Some people are super creative with nicknames!

@Yea in my casual play-throughs I often default to picking a nickname theme, the more obscure the better LOL. I’ve actually been toying with the idea of shiny hunting some starter Pokemon because I have the perfect theme I want to use, but since I was on the fence about nicknaming I wrote it off, now however… the idea is becoming more tempting
