Hp isn't exactly the stat you wanna boost in Magnetons..so Probably not as deep as you'd think! She probably just grinded on Maril as they're weak to electric thus would be the easiest to KO and grind on for levels..

Fun Fact: Jaiden was actually Super Lucky with that Magneton, Since Lv32 Magneton only have 98 HP by having 31 HP IVs (aka Individual Values, 6 separate hidden values that are determined after catch, are immutable in gen 2 to 6, and increases stat to the amount of points indicated in the IVs of the specific stat), which is the highest Amount of IVs a Pokemon can have in a stat, and at least 176 HP EVs or higher if the IVs are lower than 31, meaning killing at least 88 or more Marrils in that Run. So not ONLY she's an accidental genius, she was also blessed by the RNG gods with the bulkiest (HP wise) mamgneton findable in the wild.

@@memenazi7078 nah, earthquake is a physical type attack. training special defense wouldn’t help. in cases where you need to survive a 4 times super-effective attack, it’s best to train hp to gain more bulk. then, you can train defense since mageton has a base 95 in defense. actually, it may be best to train primarily defense in that case, but i haven’t calculated the difference

There was a similar moment in her Platinum nuzlocke. Her garchomp had been grinding by killing ponyta and gave it a bunch of speed EVs that came in clutch. And that time Jaiden actually realized after the fact that's what happened and pointed it out in her video.

It's not that she doesn't know about EVs, just that she may not of known Maril Gives HP EV's and without those Mgneton would of died..or maybe more so the fact she probably grinded Maril as they'd be easy not for the EV's at all making it an accidental genius move (if she'd grinded on anything else it would of been a loss, but she accidentally grinded on the right pokemon which happened to also be the easiest for an electric type)..

When I attempted a Silver Soul Nuzlocke, I got an eevee I named Dorvan. After almost losing to a pursuing rattata in the very first grind battle, I decided to evolve him into an Umbreon and grind lots of Unown, because they give defence EVs. At the end Dorvan could handle even self-destructs from wild Pokémon like they were nothing. EDIT: Correction, I grinded unown after I already had maxed out Dorvan’s defence EVs (unown gives attack and special attack EVs) Sorry, that was years ago.

It might but damage calculations are weird and i honestly dont think defense evs would make enough difference at only level 32 to save it. But im a nerd so ima go find out Edit: just checked with pokemon showdowns damage calculator, we obviously don’t know ivs but at max ivs for both pokemon at the levels they were, 160 defense evs gives altraias earthquake a 31% chance to one hit ko, but 160 hp evs actually gives it a 50% chance to one hit ko. Meaning defense evs actually would have made it more likely to survive. Neat. And pointless, but still neat

For this particular fight, perhaps defense EV’s would have been more rational. However in the long run Magneton benefits more from HP EV’s. Keep in mind Magneton already has a respectable defense of base 95 AND it’s a steel typing which adds even more to its tank table. Boosting its low base 50 HP to a higher degree is actually better. But to each their own

Essentially, every 4EV in a stat = 1 point at level 50. Max EV in anyone stat is something like 252 which comes out to 60~ points more in a stat.

Jaiden technically also caught the correct Magnemite as the magnemite probably had a lot of HP IVs so bless the IVs not the EVs. (p.s marill is common near the 6th gym leader so its one of the best pokemon to grind there)

One of Jaiden's thought bubbles in the moment noted that Flakes was level-grinded on Pokémon giving Speed EVs. Yeah, if you carefully scout out the best level-grind target for the right Pokémon in your team then EVs can absolutely still play a role in nuzlockes. It's more work and possibly more risk if the types don't favour you but the payoff later on can end up being run-saving.
