It sucks that Spike, had to go through an excessive amount of rebrands and a lot of the shows have been lost to time. P.S: Great material as always. I literally just got the Immigrants DVD

I wish immigrants got turned into series. There was a lot of potential there that 2024 maturity to the humor would have helped

I only really knew Spike TV as "that place where 1000 ways to die airs". I didn't know The Game Awards got their start there. It actually explains a lot about why The Game Advertisements have basically become a glorified E3 reboot.

As cringey and tacky as it was, I loved it back in the day. It’s what introduced most people to the UFC and look at where that company is now.

SpikeTV ran into the same problem alot of specialty channels in the 2000s and 2010s ran into: Unless you're a TNT, TBS, FX, or USA, you're gonna struggle with getting viewers on niche content. Channels like SyFy, A&E, and AMC all rebranded to be generic drama content, while channels like Comedy Central or MTV are on life-support themselves. SpikeTV is oddly nostalgic for me, but it had an admittedly short shelf-life as a concept.

5:08 As a professional wrestling historian, I should correct you on one thing: It was Jeff Jarrett who founded Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2002; their flagship show "Impact!" debuted on June 4, 2004 and it didn't premiere on Spike until October 1, 2005. Their broadcast deal sadly ended in 2014.

Honestly it’s far more accurate to say it was “bro culture” unless someone’s only reference to Spike TV was Manswers or Stripperella. While we can say it was product of its time and or cringe I will say it holds a soft spot for airing shows like Afro Samurai, 1000 Ways to Die, Deadliest Warrior that I can’t see being on another network.

Wouldn’t call it manosphere but it was dude bro culture. I’ll say this as a kid I only watched it for tna or inkmaster. The problem was it was low effort and being a bad niche because the internet was doing it better, look at how comparing early KZbin and spike and the thing is one is authentic and one smells like how it do fellow kids. If anything to give a comparison to spike tv was comedy central at their time being just a crude networks but just one catered to a more broader audience and the other went for niche audiences that’ll watch when their shows on, old show that weren’t expensive to air or shows friends to laugh at. Be real did anyone take manswers serious. When they didn’t catered to adults but 16 year olds that wanted to feel adult
