Thank you for the information. I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis at 62, I'm now 64. Beside meds like Fosamax I was not offered anything else. I declined biophosphates. I do take a calcium supplement, but I have been having high calcium in my blood so I backed off. No one told me it could indicate a faster bone loss rate. I need to get back on it, asap. I had a complete hysterectomy at 42 yrs and did take compounded estrogen and progesterone for about 3 yrs. I'm going to talk to my Dr about estrogen and Prolia. Ordering calcium supplement from Thorne. Thank you again.

Excellent coverage on this incredibly important topic. Very interesting to learn the difference between cortical and tribecular bone and how that plays into this issue. It's meaningful that baseline bone density T scores at age 25 y/o are never taken and would be different for each person, so just watch the trajectory of successive bone scans in older age to see that scores are not worsening. Thank you!

Thank you very much for this great lesson, Dr Susan. What would be a good scientific source to take to my endocrinologist to make my case to try testosterone replacement for osteoporosis as well (I am on estradiol and progesterone)? It seems like the focus is only ever on “libido” (which is not always easy to talk about, I find). What about all the other important functions of testosterone in the female body, and it seems like the medical community doesn’t care that we loose T and have decades more to live. It’s frustrating.

I appreciated your explanation it was helpful. You made it more comfortable and less scary. I liked that you explained if you have this you have a higher risk, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you will have a fracture. If we can keep it the same on the next Dexa scan then that’s progress. I guess I am feeling very hopeful that maybe I can keep my score the same. I’m now on hrt and maybe the estrogen will help. I also do not eat dairy & for many years. Dr suggested calcium vit d. Thank you for your video and suggestions.

Thank you, so very helpful I have osteopenia also white and small framed have been on HRT for 9 years. But as you say that may have been the case anyway. I will continue taking my Vit D , Magnesium and Calcium. The only thing I struggle with is consistent exercise, as a chronic migraine sufferer since peri menopause I have to be careful as this is one of my triggers.

Hello! I’m a 48 year old mom of 2, 11 and 8. I had a stress fracture of the third metatarsal this fall which led my doctor to order a dexa. I got the results: I have osteoporosis of my left hip and osteopenia of my spine. Am I not a little “young” for that diagnosis already? I started strength training 3 years ago (3-4) times a week, I don’t drink or smoke, and I eat really well. 😢

How do you suggest a patient stops prolia if/when she needs to? It’s the worst downside of Prolia, that you can no stop it without a plan.

How about PROGESTERONE deficiency ? 99.9% of all these videos on bone loss and osteopenia and osteoporosis NEVER mention Progesterone deficiency when it comes to preventing and reversing bone loss. Almost every video mentions estrogen but estrogen never reverses bone loss but only slows down bone loss. Four hormones are known to help regrow strong bones. The big four are PROGESTERONE VITAMINE D3 TESTOSTERONE NANDROLONE PROGESTERONE AND VITAMINE D3 ARE ESSENTIAL AND TESTOSTERONE AND NANDROLONE ARE great as well

Please know that Prolia is not a favorite among bone experts because unless you take a re-absorptive medication shortly after stopping, you will loss bone rapidly. So once you start Prolia are stuck taking osteoporosis drugs and the ones that are your least favorite. 😢 😢😢😢

Great video, up to the point where you select Prolia. I can’t believe that you are unaware of the downsides of this drug. Contrary to what you state, It is certainly not safer than bisphosphonates. it has the same dangerous side-effects, i.e. necrosis of the jaw and atypical fractures after discontinuation. I am surprised that you didn’t research this before posting your information and misleading others.
@Barbara-du2qi
@Barbara-du2qi 6 ай бұрын
The drug is not bad in and of itself it just requires constant monitoring and use of the reabsorptives afterwards so don't precipitously lose bone. Dr McCormick speaks about this. To increase bone formation you definitely need to take the anabolics.
