I was always really bad at BS 180’s and I find a good tip is doing half cab 180’s in between BS 180’s and tricking your muscle memory into getting used to the turn.

half cabs feel like a whole different trick. i mean, they are, but fronstide 180 and fs half cabs feel very similar and the muscle memory translates for me - but i struggle with half cabs

Ben I finally got these on lock. Took me a YEAR...I had such a hard time with this trick. your advice to keep your back foot slightly more toeside helped me to become more consistent and land better, and the scooping motion helped me as well...I cant do them super high, maybe not even 1 deck high but I can get them off the ground and do them off curbs and ledges. You are right, backside 180s are SO satisfying and I do think they look cooler than frontside 180s when done well. Thank you for this video, it really helped me

Naw nollie front 180 or switch back 180. I guess a beginner wouldn't be doing those usually but they're definitely basic.
@marcusrosales33444 жыл бұрын
@Alexander Sanchez As a rule, that's false. I myself can nollie frontside heel higher and cleaner than I can nollie front 180 but I wouldn't call it easier...
@marcusrosales33444 жыл бұрын
@Alexander Sanchez That's definitely an exception and not a rule is all. I can switch varial heel way better than I can varial heel, but I wouldn't say the other ones easier. Switch back 180s are probably the hardest though for the vast majority of people.
@ryanwilliams99844 жыл бұрын
@@marcusrosales3344 Yeah, of the all the 180s switch backside and nollie frontside are the weirdest motions. I'm sure there are exceptions, but learning switch front 180 and nollie backside was much easier.

When you are learning skateboarding, when you haven't gotten really into ollies or airs yet, you can really lean into backside turns and it's fine. But once you leave the ground it is a disaster to lean into backside turns, to lean forward over your board - your skateboard will fly ahead of you and out from under you. It is essential to keep your weight centered over your board. Like you say, a good way to do this is to shift your weight to your back foot while you are rotating. I find that really good practice for keeping your weight centered over your board is practicing kickturns/spins. You can pull a 360 turn without too much attention to balance, but once you get good at centering your weight you will be able to do 720's, 1080's...1440's...They're really satisfying to get good at. Just practicing these spins, backside and frontside, is part of my daily practice. Along with some pushups, sit-ups, squats, heel lifts, some basic weight training and elliptical bike (maybe just a few of these depending on time/motivation).

You can definitely scoop them the way ben does in this video, however, I prefer to keep my back foot in normal ollie position to get a little more pop, which in turn gives you better height, which allows you to do the rotation in the air instead of having to pivot. I pivoted my 180s for the longest time and this tip is part of what helped me to get the rotation in the air.

I'm looking forward to this. I've always sucked at back 180s. Because of that I feel like I've never learned back lips or back tails or basically anything substantial backside. I've been thinking of working on them so I can learn switch back lips, regular front boards scare me but switch feel natural, so I figure that's the best route for me. Decent back 180s are a goal to work on this week.

Nice video! Another tip I found helpful when trying to learn backside 180s was to learn backside reverts. That way, you already have down the motion and what you should be doing with your shoulders. At this point, you just need to incorporate the ollie.

If you watch your front foot at the last ending 180s that you do, you actually have your front foot pulled back from the toeside edge an inch or two. This is what was the key for me in learning bs 180s, so thought I'd point that out.

It's weird everyone says the shoulder thing, but the hips end up ahead of the shoulders for the landing. The other thing I notice is that during the landing, it looks like Ben watches the tail land, not the nose.

any tip to get that last 20 degrees? i keep landing just below a clean 180 for a stylish roll away

Turn your shoulders more. Focus on your back foot going all the way around. Like your tracking it to get full 180.

@bendegros6 жыл бұрын
adam rizzle notice how I stopped riding it after the first 180? There is to much space from the back bolts to where the tail goes up and on top of that the tail has an unusually mellow angle. I'm actually pretty bummed about it so far. It felt lousy on Indy's so I have thunders on it now. Havent tried it yet.I thought it would be steep but didn't notice the tail. The nose is great and the shape is otherwise nice but it's going to have poopy pop on the tail.

I have never got these. Nowhere near. I have a mental block when rotating bs on a skateboard. I can do BS 50-50, BS 5-0, BS Smith, BS boardlides for days, but the BS 180 still eludes me. Even backside reverts and BS powerslides to fakie, if you can count them, are in the bag. Front Side 180's are healthy and effortless. No thought required. Two things for me are fundamentaly wrong. No matter how hard I try to pop, my back foot does not want to lift off the ground. Like my back foot will not commit or is disconnected from my brain. Second thing is, no matter how hard I try or rotate my arms, head, hips, my feet will only go 90 degrees. It is purely in my head, but I can't unlock it. I have been battling these for 6 six years now and all the tips produce the same result. They are so far off, I don't know how to begin to fix them. The most frustrating thing is that this is my go to trick on a snowboard! FFS!!! I can do 1's, 3's and 5's on a snowboard, backside or fronside. The only limiting factor is the condition or shape of the kicker which determines whether I take off heel or toe edge. I need therapy.
