Hey Carl.... Remember if u dip ur bread in the water just before u cast it, then u can get atleast 5 meter more in the cast without the bread falling off :D

But then once the bread is soaked in water it looses it buoyancy, doesn't it?

Floating breadcrust freelined works really well in the margins on my local lake. Is only shallow around 18-24" deep with the biggest fish in there in upper teens. But is good for an hour or two on the bank in the afternoon or evening with a float rod

I only used freelining for chub with grasshoppers in summertime, deadly when the water is clear. By the way catching grasshoppers is harder than the fishing for chub with this technique, basically it's a "live" fly fishing. Great fun and very simple fishing :)

I love free lining with crust. I have my trusty 35+ year old Mitchell reel & Marco 10ft carbon rod with fugi rings (they were a big thing when I was a young teen 😂) setup ready to fish when the carp come to surface. This older rod is quite flexible so is ideally suited to close in fishing like this. I find literally fishing less than 20cm from the bank works a treat, the line isn’t even in the water. Can’t wait for my local lake to reopen on June the 1st.

Freelining is the only tactic I use to catch big Carp. Without a doubt the easiest and best method. Sat on the bank, waiting for an alarm to go off is quite frankly, somewhat boring. With freelining you get to see all the action, and feel a part of it. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush of watching some monster weigh up your bait, and decide whether or not to take it 😎
