This was very informative, thank you for the video. My biggest takeaway was the importance of understanding the client and their needs / wants. Drilling down to the core concept of what they are looking for will get you that much closer to a design they will love. I have a question on the program to use for logo design. For this video, you state to import into Adobe Illustrator, and in another of your videos, you mention Illustrator as well for logo design. However, you answered two questions in the comments below for this video that you use and prefer InDesign. I have not used either of these programs and would be learning one, or both, from scratch. Is there one that is that much better between the two?
@4TheCreatives Жыл бұрын
Great takeaway! The industry standard program to create logos is Adobe Illustrator. My favorite program is Adobe InDesign, but the primary use of that one is for layout design: flyers, posters, books, brochures, packaging, etc. But it can also be used for logos, though is not as diverse as Illustrator for that. Do you want to be a logo designer only or do graphic design layout as well?
@marcd1981 Жыл бұрын
@@4TheCreatives Thank you, Lauren. At this time, I am looking towards logo designing, as that seems to be a good place to start learning to use the Adobe program(s). From there, I can expand as necessary for a clients needs.

You did an amazing job! Last night at the age of 51 I had this thought of wanting to learn Graphic design. This video had me second guessing. I don't think I have an eye for it. I wouldn't know where to start. Do you have any suggestions?
@4TheCreatives Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And this type of design is advanced so don’t ever feel that if you can’t do this you can’t do anything. The very first step is understanding what is design. What are the fundamentals of graphic design and how can you apply them to a basic layout. I got this question all the time so I created a course too to help designers walk through the basics step by step. Let me know if you want to learn more about it. But just know I have trained 60 year olds and above so 51 is not too old!

If you purchase fonts for a specific project do you charge that to the customer and include it as part of the final invoice? Or is that a cost that you would absorb?
@4TheCreatives2 жыл бұрын
I absorb this and work it into my prices. I used to charge way to low and wanted to charge the clients for fonts and stock imagery but they didn’t appreciate that and I realized I needed to just have it as the overall cost.

I’m wondering, in what part of the process do you involve the customer? It’s seems logical to send them the moodboard for approval first right ?
@4TheCreatives Жыл бұрын
Yes! The mood board is a great check in point to ensure the overall look is aligned with their vision. I have also done a variation of that where I have the first round of logo designs with mock-ups along with the mood board so they can envision what the mood board translates into for the logo. But the best way to do it is a check in at mood board stage.

I can't imagine using all that time only for the customer to say that they don't like it. How do you go about that?
@4TheCreatives2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking, good questions! I think that having a good ability to put your ideas on paper is important, you do not need to draw these type of logos, this is just the style of logos I love to do. You can do more geometric and for that you need to be good at simplifying shapes. I have a video coming out tomorrow with exercises to help with this actually. And regarding spending all that time and then the client not liking it, that is where having a really strong onboarding process is essential. You need to make sure you understand the client's concept for the brand and who they want to target so well and then do enough research so that you present this to the client so they see that this is the best possible solution for their brand.

At what point do you check to make sure the logo doesn’t exist yet ?
@4TheCreatives Жыл бұрын
This is something you would do after the design is approved by searching in Google images with an image of the logo. This is really a legal task moreso than a designers job. If you are creating a bespoke logo design and have dug into competitors and ensure it is created from scratch, then it is up to the companies legal department to ensure it is not too similar to anything else from a trademark standpoint.
@Ellenator Жыл бұрын
@@4TheCreatives really? so if I am a selfemployed designer and I create a logo for a customer that's by accident very similar to the logo of some other company, I will not be accountable?
@4TheCreatives Жыл бұрын
What would happen if a client comes back after trying to trademark and the logo was found to be too similar to another would be to make simple modifications based on the recommendations from the lawyer they are using.
@4TheCreatives Жыл бұрын
Here’s an excerpt from a good podcast episode about this subject: “But assuming nothing goes wrong with the registration process, about 6 to 6.5 months from start to finish. Once you submit the application, there’s a series of internal checks at the trademark office that they go through. They verify things. If there’s art that is part of it-a logo design or something like that-they go through a check.”
