@giuseppeferrara9522 жыл бұрын
Lol. I highly doubt that many 250-pound guys are as low as 12% body fat. Most guys would be considered morbidly obese if they weighed that much for their height. Unless that guy you're referring to is super tall or has an enormous amount of muscle mass that is extremely rare, I highly doubt that a lot of his mass is lean muscle tissue. He's probably like most guys who overestimate how lean he is.

After all, BMI does not include people who exercise regularly. The problem of measuring the amount of adipose tissue using the BIA method is that you need to know what company the device is and you need to set the appropriate measurement mode, e.g. Tanita describes exactly when to use the normal and sports mode and in what situations the actual result will be somewhere between the two. If the measurement is made according to the instructions, the indication is quite accurate and is not much different from the DXA measurement. In the case of DXA examination, it is similar - if a person will not position themselves properly for examination, or not defecate well, etc. this will affect the measurement result. Assuming that everything is perfect, the measurement error is still around 5% (1-2% for the latest devices). And this is just a single measure. Results will vary depending on whether you measure in the morning or evening, summer or winter, etc. And there's a very big difference between underskin fat ("body fat") and visceral fat. Naturally, genetically, you can have a lot of visceral fat and outwardly be ripped as the best bodybuilders. There are different types of adipose tissue depending on its location and function. Only the tissue under the skin affects the appearance of muscles. And this is all within the limits of a physiological norm, and yet there are also various disorders. Just search about "metabolically healthy obese" (MHO), the "metabolically obese but normal-weight"(MONW) and the "thin-outside-fat-inside" (TOFI). Each of these sub-phenotypes represents significant variations in adipose tissue distribution. Sometimes (in very, very rare cases), it can looks as Joe. After all, Greg is right. Joe can be rippes as hell throughout his life, and thanks to the high amount of visceral fat, his health will not be negatively affected. Lucky bastard....

I have 2 of those biometric scales. I just experimented with the newer one. Age and height changes the percent fat readings a lot. I am not even sure is sends an electrical pulse through the contacts. I have tracked my 25lb weight loss over the last 18 months and charted the displayed BMI vs displayed BFR and statistically, they track exactly. I think the scale is just accounting for height and weight and then applying a correction factor for age to come up with a BFR. If I lie and tell the scale I am younger, the percent fat BFR goes down. At my actual 57 years old, i am 23.2%, I entered 45 YO, then i am 19%, and at 24 I am 16%. Using calibers, I am around 20%. My BMI is 23.2.

I think a big issue with DEXA is that they don't tell you the importance of doing it fasted and no liquids. That can dramatically alter your results. Also, someone else mentioned that he could have different body fat in different areas of the body. The full DEXA results should show the different areas and corresponding body fat percentages. I think it's more useful for showing changes than hard facts, as long as you keep consistent with no liquids and no food beforehand. Otherwise it's completely pointless.

Though it might be true that you can decrease your percentage body fat by only increasing muscle mass (and maintaining the same amount of body fat); that won't improve your health if your overfat, nor will it make you look leaner (think of face fat). This is why I prefer the fat mass index (FMI) over percentage body fat. FMI is just like BMI, but it's fat mass (in kilograms) divided by height (in meters) squared. The FMI is superior when it comes to the health implications of fat, as well as aesthetics.

I’d think you’d know this 😂! DEXA scans tend to give higher body fat percentage readings compared to caliper measurements primarily because DEXA scans measure both subcutaneous fat (the fat under the skin) and visceral fat (the fat surrounding the organs inside the abdominal cavity). Calipers, on the other hand, only measure the thickness of subcutaneous fat at various points on the body and use those measurements to estimate total body fat percentage. This method doesn't account for visceral fat, which is why body fat percentage estimates from calipers might be lower than those from a DEXA scan.

If you gave a great physique and look lean does it matter what your body fat percentage is?

Hm.. From this video i've got that i've to eat more.. I'm a bit leaner than Joe but also i've thought that maybe my body fat could be just a little lower... defects of perception. Greg, thank you for the video.

10 things to quit for all Strong Men: 1. Caring about what others think 2. Not believing in yourself 3. Not experimenting different ideas / solutions for problems (life&business) 4. Not prioritizing your health 5. Wasting your precious time 6. Wanting something (instead write a plan and work towards it) 7. Chasing meaningless relationships 8. Wasting or draining your energy from beating your meat 🥩 9. Wasting time by scrolling social media 10. Nailbiting/nailpicking habit for good (if you do it - consider stopping it as it makes you mentally weak + affects your confidence and all other areas of your life!) Take it easy and I hope you found one thing helpful in this list

I could be wrong but i think the reason that the dexa scan usually gives a higher bodyfat procentage is because it measures all of the fat in the entire body including the fat inside which would give a higher procentage. While the pinching method you usually do is only measuring the surface fat and comparing to bodyweight which would give a lower procentage since youre not including the fat inside the body. I'm no expert i've not even searched this up im just guessing.

The dude needs to disconnect from all social media immediately particularly from the fitness community (example: him thinking that photo was a bit leaner than the "average person", is beyond warped) Keep using whatever he needs to for business purposes but should be set up in a way that he is not interacting unless absolutely necessary.

yeah my scale says I'm 24.5% bf. the barely abs disagree and put me more like 16-18% and it literally guesses. I can hold a 10lb weight in my hand and it'll say i gained 1-2% bf.

Do a video about Joel Beukers, arguably the biggest dutch influencer. He did a dexa scan which showed 10% bodyfat, which clearly shows a misinformed picture - as he is so convinced its accurate ✌🏼

Oh man. I thought this was a laser eye video of newsletter subscribers and I was hoping Coach gave me his analysis. I thought I had body dysmorphia lol. I think I’m 9.5% body fat. I probably have too high of an opinion of myself 😂 I’m thinking Joe is around 8.5% body fat

My guess would be 10%. It's hard to say without knowing the guy, but I don't know if I'd jump to body dysmorphia. He could just be trying to be modest and err on the side of caution because people tend to just spew any sort of low number based on inaccurate measurements and take it as gospel. If he does indeed have body images issues, I hope he learns from this video. Dude is lean no matter what the actual percentage is and I agree that he can put on a few percent in order to healthily gain muscle weight. edit: I agree with the lighting points too. I wouldn't use natural lighting if you're not gonna get the same angle of light and the same intensity next time. Neutral lighting under your normal house lights are great if you don't want helpful lighting since you can replicate it easily.

Wow, I had never considered as muscle is added-but no fat added or lost-your body fat % as a ratio of body mass will go down. So skinny ectomoprhs don't actually have to operate in a deficit and target losing fat at all, they just have to add muscle.

I have one of these scales as well. It puts me at 22.3% bf as well. That's nuts hahaha I'm 6ft 174 lbs. No fat on arms and legs. Striated shoulders, i can clearly see the 3 pectoral muscle heads when doing machine flyes. Somewhere between visible 2-4 pack. Visible serratus. I have me at ~13%bf. Seeing Greg gets a 22% on that, it is definitely bunk. Likely off by 10%+
@Tommy-qp5bi2 жыл бұрын
if you are only seeing a 2 pack, you are definitely not ~13%. If you were at 13% you would see all 6 abs albeit not "super" shredded, but at 13 you would definitely see all 6 abs instead of 2-4

@@Tommy-qp5bi it'can happen that you see only 2-4 packs at 13% (I mean arnold only sees 4 packs at 5% bf because he doesnt even have 6 packs) the dude says he's super lean pretty much anywhere, so he might be storing his fat in his abs area
