How to do a 4WD Body Conversion on a 73-79 Ford Truck

In this episode, Aaron shows his viewers how to modify a 2wd cab to fit a 4wd frame. The process is the same for all 73-79 Ford trucks. This truck is being modified for a Cummins swap onto a 4wd frame, specifically a 1979 F350. The full restoration and swap of this truck is ongoing and regular updates will be posted to the channel.

I like how simple and interchangeable everything is on these trucks. I used to have a Toyota p/u and I do all the work to my civic which is serviceable and enjoyable, but looking forward to digging in to my 78 when I get a chance. Thanks for documenting this useful info

I always tell everyone, if you have a set of standard wrenches and sockets, plus a couple screwdrivers and a hammer you can take apart the entire truck!

Ok I have a 73 highboy 3/4 -4x4 can I use a cab off a 78 2wd

Ill be doing this starting in a couple weeks, i am combining 3 trucks, all 78's I have a perfect supercab 4x4 frame and running gear that the body is trashed, another Supercab 2x4 with a perfect body and interior, and the 3rd is a 12' U-Haul with a really nice over the cab Aluminum box that im convering into a camper, a family member gave me a water damaged high end truck bed camper that ill be robbingthe windows and appliances from. I think its actually a 14' if they count the over cab part. I have a very well built 460 but if I want to be able to afford taking it camping I'll probably end up going diesel. I think I'll use the 1 ton dually rear axle but havent decided yet, I think I'll need some kind of overdrive or something.

That sounds like a heck of a project! I need about 5-10 trucks to build one really good one with all the options and good parts etc., so not crazy at all

I have 4 cheap harbor freight floor dollies and I put one in each corner, works like a charm!

I usually set the bed vertically against the wall, but I guess that would work too? Just wouldn't want to bend the bottom.@@joeslys3313

Enjoyed the video...i have an 85 2wd dentside and i have been trying to decide if i am going to do this as well...also in the video you called one of your measurements 2/8?...Did you mean a 1/4? 😛

Hah, well listen when you are filming live your brain works different, trust me, no idea what I said, but I don't edit out mistakes. It is a really high lift, I am not sure I would want a daily this high.... Thanks for checking out the channel!

@@DentsideDepot Ha!...I couldn't let you get away with that one and I like the channel i follow it...and regardless of what I do to mine it will be a daily driver. I'm torn between a 4wd conversion with a lift , or its lowered and bagged evil brother. And while I agree that it would be a better daily without the 4x conversion , the other option would be even more taxing.

@@DentsideDepot respect...i think that's how it should be. It's honestly kinda frustrating when I watch a custom vehicle build and everything installs right, and fits perfect, and the engine starts the first crank (when you know that 90% of the time it didnt). Its too unrealistic. The character and learning comes from the challenges that arise during the build that have to be figured out.
