Do you aspire to meditate while working but find it difficult? In this video, Mingyur Rinpoche explains the impact meditation can have on this area of our life. In particular, he explains how stress can lead to tightness, ultimately hindering our creativity and capacity to perform. Through meditation, we can return to being more open and relaxed, which leads to greater capability to excel.
Have you tried to incorporate meditation while you work? If so, what helps you sustain this practice? What is most challenging?

I work in a grocery store. At times when it gets busy there is definitely a chance to meditate on sound. Noises from machines, crying children, talking that can be a crescendo. I find it during the work day difficult to focus on a technique, but I will try to watch the breath a few times. Thank you for your time and effort. ☸

I also work in a grocery store-it can be challenging. I use my breaks to listen to short mediations. Most of the time, it takes the “edge” off.

Meditation does increase my creativity. At work I find that single pointed attention helps me a lot. I’m pulled in many directions at once but if I put my full attention on one thing at a time, even if I can’t complete the task in that moment, it relieves me from feeling overwhelmed

This is actually something I can do even during my telephone job. It's quite mentally taxing work and having a few seconds of present moment rest and breathing could help. I'm going to try it out.

This is a wonderful idea. 2 days ago, I was suddenly gripped by panic attack in the middle of work. I pulled myself out completely for about 5 minutes and just concentrated on my breathing. It really helped me to regain my center. Thanks for this tip Sir!

For me, what worked is telling myself "Okay brain and body, go ahead and throw a temper tantrum. I'll sit here and wait." And then observing the physical and mental changes as something interesting. "Oh neat, my heart is pounding. Tunnel vision: cool, things don't normally look like this." At first it didn't reduce frequency or intensity, but it made me okay with the fact that I was panicking. Then over time, it stopped happening as often and as intensely.

I've never had a panic attack. I know Rinpoche has had them as a child, so he would know about how to overcome this problem. Focusing on the breath is great. Especially for me, because it's hard to forget where I put it. 😊 Have a wonderful day!

It is surprising to see how Rinpoche's teachings are exactly what Eckhart Tolle also teaches! - he calls them mini meditations 😊. But then maybe it is not that surprising 😊 - there is only One truth and all spiritual teachers expound that same truth in their own ways and words. 🙏🙏🙏

I've never experienced that. I meditate outside, I've even meditated in the middle of the pride parade with hundreds of people walking by, before it started. Only people said something if they were observing "hey, she's meditating!!" LOL. I've meditated at work as well, when I lived overseas. I've meditated in the parks, in the uk where the drunkards chill and the twats hang about, and even they left me to it. So it really sucks that you've somehow found yourself around a few ppl who are that unhappy, that they have to make fun of a person sitting, with their eyes closed.. ? But it's totally weird. Maybe go elsewhere. But honestly, when we're completely comfortable with what we're doing, and are truly all about it, therefore fully aligned with it, we will not really attract such things. The more one is aligned with a thing, the easier going it is.

That's sad to hear. I've never experienced anyone laughing or been called names whilst meditating - whether sitting, doing mindfulness of breathing, metta bhavana, even doing Qigong and tai chi people have been curious. Now more than ever the benefits of meditation and mindfulness are so valuable.

When I am shoveling rock or tar at work I meditate a lot. If I do not meditate then my emotions get the better of me. I am bipolar and I have to meditate to keep my mind peaceful. Medication can only do so much or too much. If I take too much I can't work.
@potentialreality

Studies have shown that meditation is equal to medication or other times much better. Good luck as I know bipolar is difficult but some of history's most creative people have been.

Would meditation state be achieved during hard work, scything, shoveling dirt, pulling weeds in the garden, by keeping a neutral mind and work on being relaxed in your movements? Being aware of the details necessary for the work in the background.

Dear Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche I have some thing to ask Rinpoche which is unrelated to meditation. My question is regarding something that I have been keeping on my altar for 30 years . A friend of mine gave me only 3 of these, now it has grown to 12 pieces. According to him 30 years ago a visiting Rinpoche gave him some of these and he gave me 3 pieces. The visiting Rinpoche said these are medicines. After 30 years the 3 pieces has grown to 12 pieces. I have put this question on a Facebook Tibetan Buddhism group , and I do receive all sorts of negative comments. I hope Rinpoche can enlighten me on this.

I thought of a metaphor, that for all human babies, it’s inept to be able to walk, but each babies still need to practice walking, crawling first then taking steps with baby walkers etc. (Walking = awareness of one’s true nature, meditation = baby steps) Hope I didn’t overstep ☺️🙏🏽

Without your question @Jason Tang, there would not have been @Anna Kim answer Thanks both, it is wonderful and bright. The third aspect is to see this writing as one, higher energy. All receive beneficial effects for that crossed-shared writing. Karma++ Me included. But that too, will be given as a gift to sentient beings and to space and to clarity. AH
