Albert Manuel You’re right. I used to buy expensive clothes and not know why nothing looked good on me. So I stoped wasting money on clothes and was honest with myself about my weight and decided to concentrate of getting fit. Now I’m 54 and look even better than when I was 34 with a HM t-shirt and jeans. Go for it Albert. Change your lifestyle and make everything about eating well and getting regular exercise.Make it a big part of your life and not just squeeze in a run or a gym session whenever you can. You won’t look back.

I am recently divorced after 25 years and I am 55 years old. I used to dress nice when I was younger but now that's downgraded to sandals and sneakers, blue jeans, cargo shorts and black concert tees. After watching your videos I went out and bought myself some dress boots chino pants in different colors collared shirts long sleeve and short. I look and feel much better. I actually caught a couple of girls staring at me. my confidence level is sky-high. And shopping has become fun. Thank you so so much.

The advice you're giving equally applies to the under 40s as well as the over 40s. Im 56 and ive always been a sneaker guy and that wont change. I also love wool overcoats and that has been the case for 30 years. Ripped jeans ive never worn. I also have a liking for formal shoes oxfords derbys and single/double monk straps. I live in the UK and I would suggest the style rules (if there is such a thing) is a lot more 'varied' than the states possibly.

I'm 62 work as a person trainer and am in good shape .I agree with everything you said ! I don't wear Anything unless it fits good especially suits! I threw away all pleated slacks four years ago and now wear only plain front slacks that fit .I feel and look like I'm much younger in part because my clothes look like they are tailored just for me and they are!! Thanks for your good advice ! Especially non footwear !

It really doesn't matter what you wear as long as you carry yourself appropriately and with confidence. I can put something on from Nordstroms or Walmart and make them both look good by the way I carry myself.

I was well into my 40s when I decided to dress well. To any guy who need's to see what happens when you dress well. I went into a bar in my hometown wearing a leather biker jacket and jeans and the barman said " Yes Mate what can I get you "(I'm English hence the mate reference). One day later I went into the same bar wearing a suit and the same barman said. "Yes sir , can I help you". Says it all.

I'm over 40 and I love the word you used to describe how we should look...."distinguished." I totally agree with you. There is another style vlogger out there who clearly is well over 40. He's probably close to 50 because I see the age in his skin, which is ironic because he's trying to sell a mens skin care line, trying to convince everyone who great and "simple" it is. Again, I like that word "distinguished" because of our "experience." I will try to go with clothes with a little modern edge to it, but for the most part, my style is a little more in the "timeless classic" relm.

I'm 51 and put more thought and effort into what I wear now more than ever in my life. I would say that I have always paid attention to what I wore and took pride in being somewhat of a snappy dresser for lack of a better term but much to my surprise I'm having more fun with it than I ever have. I always hated shopping but I did it anyway and nowadays it's much more convenient to do it online when I can, and know something will fit properly. There is definitely a fine line IMHO about what you can get away with at my age but if you nail it I think its pretty damn cool.

The issue with this video and any video offering style advice for us in our 40’s, 50’s etc Is the examples are on people in perfect shape. Ryan Reynolds types. Which is a great reminder to focus on being in shape #1, but it would be great to see suggestions that may be helpful for us who aren’t in perfect shape. What outfits are flattering for imperfect body shapes etc.

I will be 39 years old in 6 months in decent shape and still look fairly young so I dress how I want sometimes in our teens and in our 20's a lot of the clothes we like and wanted we couldn't afford until we got older in our 30's and 40's so the key is confidence and to be happy

Chino's give the lower half of my body a V-shape, the material is always too thin and has a draping effect. Jeans give the lower half a straight down look, overall better. At 5'11, 32-33 waist, how much should a good pair of chinos be and when should I give up because my body type may not work with them?

charles.d - artpipe TX my measures exactly, I know what you mean. I tend to keep my shirts untucked so that helps a little. Also there’s a regular fit chinos that fit better than the slim or skinny fit, but it’s still an ongoing quest for me. Some day I hope to get the magic formula right. Keep experimenting and contrast colors of your chinos with your shirts or t-shirts.

I'm 45 and one thing us well seasoned gents need to stay away from is neon anything especially if you are going salt and pepper. One thing we should run too is mono tone styling .We pull that off proper.

I dunno, it felt pretty condescending. The reason distinguished gentlemen might not wear more closely tailored clothing is the middle-age spread, yes? The two baggy photos were of larger gents, followed by tailored photos of guys in good (read thin) physical condition. If you really want to help show how a guy who is overweight can rock some over 50 styles.

One problem I run into is big and tall clothing is mostly big. Most of the places I go are very laid back. A few shirts meant for the work place do fit me but places that sell casual clothing might have one item of 300 that actually fits me. A tall sized sweater is like finding a unicorn. To be honest, I find most of my dates wearing a Tshirt with holes burned into it or a flannel/denim shirt. A Harley helps me more than any clothing item.

I don't see anything wrong with a classy V neck sweater. My signature look for years, even decades, has been a basic black V neck with a white T shirt underneath to accentuate it. And I don't think it looks out of place now that I am 45.

This is great advice when your 6 foot tall, weigh 180 Lb, and live in the city. What about some advice for the shorter, heavier gent who lives an active outdoor life. I cant be wearing dress shoes, and a fitted jacket when I am heading out for a 4-6 hour hike in the mountains of the Pacific North West ... Looking for more appropriate advice for a 5'7", 190Lb, active outdoors lifestyle.

Chalie Murphy so many options. You could go with a grey or navy blue suit with some nice brown shoes. A white or blue oxford cloth button down collar shirt and a pocket square to match the shirt. A v-neck sweater with wool trousers, blue or grey, the same shirts as above and brown shoes. Double monk straps are something the ladies notice. You could also wear a blue blazer with grey trousers, same shirt choices as above and shoes. A nice pair of chinos like Woodies and a sweater with same shirt choices as above and either brown shoes or Chelsea boots. I personally do not like tan or khaki colored chinos but they go with almost anything. No pleated pants! Make sure everything fits and isn’t too baggy. Iron or press everything too, wrinkled and baggy is a bad look. I don’t know your budget but you have a year to space any purchases out. You can find some decent shoes at a fair price at Florsheim,com. You could also do a one time subscription from Stitch Fix, Bombfell, or the Nordstrom service. If you don’t like what they send you can ship it back. Other than Woodies, LL Bean and Lands End have nice wrinkle free chinos and always have coupons or sales. I like Woodies because the are made to your specific size. If your suit jacket or blazer is a solid color you can opt for a striped shirt if you like. Again LL Bean has some nice wrinkle free options. Haircut, shined shoes, nice threads, you will be good to go!
