Declan Wakefield I mean for the sake of the video it will be a fake punch but in reality if you done that to a person it would probably knock them out, depends on where you hit and how hard you strike.

Honestly fighting should be a last resort . A very last resort. The reasons 1. Most street fights are not 1v1 , your opponents will gang up on you this is a problem. 2. No rules , no honor. Unless you have time to lay out a challenge with rules to one of the gang members its anything goes. You dont want a guy picking a brick and throwing it at your face, or gouging your eyes. 3. It can escalate to deadly levels very quickly , if you are getting the better of your opponent . He may just decide to go for broke and use and object or a very dangerous move and break your arm etc . 4. You will gas out really fast. Unless you have the fitness of a pro athlete you will not be able to throw power punches after 3 minutes. My advice learn to fight for an opportunity to safely get away. Learn to throw a solid punch to the jaw, temple , Straight right , hook with arms tucked in. Most people no matter how big dont have great chins and if that brain rattles its lights out for a few seconds . Never go to ground , keep space jab Kick (if you can) Then get the hell out of there.

I was once attacked by a much larger man who also had a (normal sized) ally. At the time I was 48, 5' 9", and weighed 185 pounds. I'd practiced a combative full contact martial art for 30 years and was extremely fit. My attacker was huge and strong but was not a trained fighter. He was obviously a steroid abuser experiencing 'roid rage. I was riding my bicycle to work when my attacker knocked me off the road with his pickup truck, squealed to a stop, then jumped out of his truck and ran at me. I sprang to my feet just as he threw his first (clumsy) punch. I dodged his first two punches and was just about to go on the offensive when he was saved by the intervention of a bystander. A 40ish matronly blond woman jumped between us and screamed obscenities in his face. He pulled his fist back to hit her when he noticed her four friends rushing over: her husband, two adult sons, and two neighbors. I guess he didn't like bicyclists. I say, "saved him" because I was concerned that his ally might have a handgun. This guy was so much larger and stronger than I that I could not just brush him aside. I knew I'd have to break his bones and/or maim him in order to take him down fast enough to be on his possibly-armed ally. My intent was to drop the big guy fast, using every trick I knew, in order to be on his ally and thus 'dissuade' the ally from drawing his gun. Given time and a 1 on 1 fight I could probably have taken him with badly injuring him but I did not have those luxuries. The civilians who broke up the fight waited until the police arrives, then testified to the police what they had seen. I was bicycling to work when the big guy attacked me with his pickup truck, knocking me and my bike off the road, then jumped out and attacked me with his fists. His ally was riding shotgun in the pickup and (very wisely) didn't get out of the truck. The police dealt with the situation appropriately.

As a rather big guy (6'8 340lbs) I dont fight very much like that and don't really see many big guys fight like that besides the tackling at the end; most smaller people panic in those situations and that often ends the fight. But as a bigger guy the biggest thing I use in fighting is contact; grabbing ahold of anything I can get my hand on and jerking them around to keep them off balance, hitting them when I can or trying to throw them to the ground. Once on the ground the contact thing still applies; I've always seen bigger guys try to grab ahold of anything and keep hold of it to keep control, I do the same thing. Get to the ground, establish contact (collar of shirt is a personal preference however I have been bitten before), then apply short stroke swings towards the face. People often think of big guys as slow and lumbering; but bursts of speed are what will get you when fighting them. Personal suggestion for fighting them; if you feel a fight is unavailable surprise is your best tactic, hit them hard and fast. Or if your confident enough to try it; take them to the ground, we ain't used to being on the receiving end of a ground and pound. I will fully admit that keeping your distance with kicks can be a good idea; but if the big guy really wants to hurt you, you are going to have to take out the knee or end up in a possibly very bad situation where they aren't worried about getting hurt, only about hurting you.

After training in kenpo karate, Muay Thai, Boxing, wrestling and BJJ I can say only one discipline allows a smaller guy to beat a bigger guy consistently = wrestling/BJJ. My coach was a previous world champion in vale tudo (Carlson Gracie) and he always said if you get two guys with the same technique level, the stronger and bigger guy will win. Sometimes strength can win alone if the strength is much more than the other. Strength + technique is what matters when it comes to fighting. I've seen so many little guys beat up big guys only in one discipline and that is wrestling/BJJ. All the other disciplines it doesn't happen consistently.

Keep doing the same basic moves for footwork and punches, the result will come with time and practice. The goal isn’t to know how to fight properly but for your body to remember the moves without you thinking too much (muscle memory) after all, during an actual fight you won’t get the chance to create a plan or think clearly enough to see the attacker’s moves since he can suddenly do something unexpected. Also it’s best to learn to be aware of your surroundings no matter the situation. The reason for that is because you never really know if the person you’re about to fight has friends or if any of them has a weapon. Btw, never engage in a fight if you don’t know what the person has on him. I live in the uk and we get a lot of stabbings and people carrying knives so generally if I have no option but to fight, I keep my distance until I am sure that the attacker isn’t carrying a hidden weapon (that is only if the person has a big jacket on or a coat that can hide small knives) if I can clearly see that he holds no weapon through the type of clothing he has on, I mainly throw the first punch to avoid getting damaged and shocking the individual. There are cowards who will resort to using weapons in a fight so be careful out there lads.

@Hz-432Hz
@Hz-432Hz Жыл бұрын
Good advice and well said but from your own experience would you say that it's actually easier to fight against an attacker who is armed with a knife? I'm in the UK too and from personal experience I have always found that if my attacker pulls a blade then it's instantly easier than if he didn't due to the fact that all of his focus is on using his knife which makes his attack much more telegraphed and easier to defend against and disarm. The only time I was more concerned about an armed attack was when the guy was using a syringe. That changed the dynamic because of the potential risk of what I could have contracted had it connected with me.
@anime108amv2
@anime108amv2 Жыл бұрын
@@Hz-432Hz Well it depends on if you have knife training to be honest, if you know how to disarm someone with a knife and can look out for certain openings in order to engage then yes, however it is not easier at all. When a weapon is involved in a fight, it no longer becomes a simple fight but rather a fight for survival because even 1 wrong step or move can cost you your life even with training and so the result you will be looking for is massively different in comparison to a regular street fight. It also depends on the type of knife, if it is a longer reach knife or a mini sword, it is indeed easy to defend against however if it is a small knife (kind of like a pocket knife) or a kitchen knife then it becomes harder because they will have a better manoeuvrability to attack in different ways. I actually had a guy try to stab me in 2019 and at the time I didnt have any knife training but I had basic boxing training, anyway... I finished work and was walking to the nearby train station, a guy bumped into me but I kept walking since I wasn't in the mood to debate with the guy on how rude he was but imagine my surprise when this idiot turns around and asked me to say sorry as if he didnt come out of his way on the road to bump into me lol. Long story short I told him to fuck off and tried to walk away but he swung at me, I ducked, stepped back and jabbed him on the nose, then the retard proceeded to take out one of those retractable knives and decided to try and attack me (Now at this point I was in a secluded road and no places to run towards, it was just an empty road, no buildings, houses or even shops) I didn't have the option to run because he'd chase me and we would both get tired and he will still have a weapon so I decided to tire him out, every time he slashed at me, I would move back after 2-3 minutes the guy was out of breath and he got slower, that was my que and I took it, I moved forward so he could slash or do a stabbing motion. In the end I got him with a clean left hook and knocked him out, as soon as he fell, I kicked the knife away quickly and kicked him in the face. I called the police, took a video of the guy and where I kicked the knife to and left the scene. My point is that If I had decided to engage him when he was at his peak, I would've died. Thats why its important to always keep distance until you are sure you can handle his slow swings.
@Hz-432Hz
@Hz-432Hz Жыл бұрын
@@anime108amv2 Thank you very much for replying to me and with such wise words and interesting points and story. It's true what you say about the type of knife involved and I would add also another factor to consider is the question of how experienced is the attacker, the techniques used and so on. And you are right about the stakes immediately getting raised once a weapon is drawn. My question was pretty much based on my own experiences of defending myself as I've been up against armed and unarmed attackers and the armed ones always put all of their focus on the knife they are using which thankfully helped me to adapt my techniques to disarm each one. Their sole weapon was their knife whereas I had all of me to use. The attacker with the syringe though was more serious. But my personal view on anyone carrying is that it's the epitome of cowardice. Thanks for sharing the story of the knife attack on you. Your technique was excellent and also legally savvy. All the best to you, stay safe out there 👍

Quote is from movie Dumb and Dumber starring Jim Carry and Jeff Daniels. Lloyd's face changing from a goofy smile to a look of horror at that moment was priceless.🤣

I like the realistic use of strikes and movement, one thing to remember- where is his buddy! And bridge up, basic judo, love it. Basics from repetitions of drills, plenty of randori and sparring will kick in

Always keep in mind that de-escalation is at the forefront. Always remember that if equally skilled, the bigger guy always wins. With that in mind, if you do have to defend yourself, if it is a life and death situation, lethal tactics work on all sizes, be the aggressor and go 100% on the first opening. If it's just self defense, just use women's self-defense tactics. You're not fighting fair anyway.
