Thanks again for your great teachings. Have a 76 Johnson 9.9 that fouls plugs at lower speeds. I rebuilt carb and float rides correct it appears and needle/seat looks good. Couldn't think of anything else. Maybe this check might help? Too bad shipping is expensive or would just send it to you. Also had large accumulation of uburnt fuel residue on top of impeller housing when I dropped lower unit. Was told that is not seal problem but mixing fuel too rich which I know I do correctly. I should probably call and pay you for a tip. I gave up last year and sent to a mechanic that took advantage of my trust, did not fix nor stand behind work. Learned a lesson. You are not like that and wished I lived closer.

Thank you Mike, hate to say this but your a breath of fresh air, one hell of an amazing smart teacher, and thank you thank you for the refresher course on these motors, cause I'd still be trying to figure things out and racking my brains for lost memories of how to do the work lol so thank you sir

Good explanation of operation of cam, timing, roller. Excessive wear on linkage, link bar causes cam adjustment to be maxed out to achieve line to center of roller in most cases I've found

Great video Mike. Where would the tiller handle be at perfect idle? Maybe the "start" position? Just so I can set it before running the motor.

I heard somewhere that Evinrude had some sort of a information release saying that the cam roller needed to be about a quarter inch past that line for it to run property. I don’t know I just thought I heard that.

How do you adjust the 7.5HP carb cam since it does not have an alignment line on the cam?

Listen for the smoothest running sound. Do it by ear.

Mike, i just got my 1966 9.5 evinrude tuned up and it will not idle at speeds slow enough to be in neutral. Will fine tuning this help? I have rebuilt the carb, new plugs and new contact points runs great at higher idle but has to me in gear. Cannot idle slower Can I reach out to you or you to me?
