Such a helpful video! Just wanted to ask about that pressing the spine into the floor thing, as most instructors online usually say that the back should be pressed into the floor for deep core activation, just wanted a bit more clarity on this if possible, thanks!
@yogawithissy Жыл бұрын
Hi, glad you asked. Because most of the contents in the fitness world tend to focus on the abs muscle (rectus abdominus) which when it contracts, it rounds your spine (spinal flexion) and tucks your pelvis (posterior pelvis tilt) but the deep core muscles (TVA), when it contracts, it is biomechanically neutral and it does not move the pelvis or ribs at all. It acts like a natural corset. It is a bit more difficult to activate this deep core muscle since most of core exercises that we do on the internet is all about abs. So when you actually have to differentiate, your abs are taken the contraction dominantly.

So your lower back should be elevated slightly above the floor even after you lift your feet?
@AznUzer Жыл бұрын
Yes (for majority of people). When you do squats and deadlifts, you’re not generally flexing your spine which is what compressing your lower back towards the floor replicates. Keeping a neutral spine is what most people should aim for and that’s what keeping a slight elevation looks like in these types of movements.
