Great video on how to check it. You can buy a new one on eBay for $15 bucks. Take the first 2 screws out and break the old unit out. Snip off the end of that bolt hole you cant get to on the new unit loosen the bolt for it a bit and slide the unit in. Put the other 2 bolts in reassemble and done.
@Scolio5 жыл бұрын
So it doesnt have to have all four bolts in to work and stay fixed? Im no mechanic but i need to replace my actuator but im really scared. This method is the only feasable replacement method but when people tell me to break something, i get scared
@GoldThumbGardens5 жыл бұрын
@@Scolio Did you do like he did and pull the first bolt out to ensure it is the blend door in the video. After that there is only 2 more blots. So pull the second bolt out and break off the unit. That is what I did there is other videos of people doing it. Like I said notch out the back bolt hole and replace. I'm replacing that blend door actuator on my crown vic right now and I didn't pull the dash. You just take the top half of the actuator off while it's still in the car after breaking afew tabs off and pull the internals out. After that you can get the screws out with a wrench and pull the whole thing out. Then you put a new actuator in and just put the one easy to get to screw back in. One screws is enough to hold it in place.

it could be stuck in the middle or a pathway is disconnected and it somehow doesnt pull air through them. Check this blend door first . Its the most common failure

Exactly why I do it like this. It work both way and it's faster than installing other stuff. I dont use the car enough to warrant the real fix although I may do it for sake of making a video if this video hits 100k. I have a good shortcut to save a lot of disassembly of dash.

My 03 Marauder had that issue in 05 , 07, 08. Cost me 500.00 per the dealer to replace the control head each time.. Then I heaRD OF A GUY BACK EAST THAT REPLACES SOME FAULTY CIRCUITS in the head and I haven't had the issue since.
@xbone52626 жыл бұрын
All of this is a waste of time if you just want to manually control the heat without fixing the blend door. All you do is put a brass plumbing shut off valve on the heater hose under the hood going into the heater core, voila, turn it off for summer and back on for winter. If I was going to bother tearing into the dash as far as this guy does just to switch it manually, I would fix the blend door. A shut off valve does the same thing and much easier to access and install under the hood.
@Veikra6 жыл бұрын
this is quicker than installing a ballvalve and no need to play with coolant. fixing the blend door requires a lot more disassembly. Nothing wrong with different options !

@Veikra3 жыл бұрын
"by bypassing blend door" straight in the title. Yes I bypassed it because not everyone is a mecanic and have 4 hours to pull the dash out. Look at the other comments, people are super happy to do the bypass and get a working car til they can afford to have it fixed correctly. Cutting tabs out of the actuator is also a hack, and not a fix yet people do it all the time and are happy with it. Whatever works , either temporary or long term. This is a quick temporary fix to get the ac or heat working again so you can get to work.
