Been trying to master this for years, I always end up doing a dutch braid by mistake, I think this video really helped, I've finally done a French braid, I think it helps to understand that you don't add hair the the middle section and as you cross over the middle, the section which is brought over, then becomes the middle! If you're braiding the right side of your hair make sure that when you're grabbing hair with your right hand to combine the right piece that you're not going to far back to the middle of your head and when you're grabbing hair for the left piece with your left hand that you are going as far to your right hairline that you want the braid to go.

Hey guys! So I just wanted to give you some tips on how to French/Dutch braid! First of all, make sure that you're adding small pieces, the smaller the pieces, the smaller and tighter the braid will be. Another very important tip is to make sure you're keeping your hands close to your scalp. If your hands are too far, your braids are gonna come out loose not matter how small of pieces you add. And if you're a beginner, make sure you have a mirror nearby so you can see the back of your head, it helps you see what you're doing back there. Hope this helps!!
