I like to call the enthusiastic growers "monsters" 😂 they are my favorite, and now I know this one will be too, thank you 😊

Hi Olga. Thank you so much for this video. I didn't know anything about Lamium. : ) A friend gave me a pot of Lamium and it was so beautiful, I wanted more. I didn't even know the name of it. I am so glad I've been introduced to this "happy" plant and very glad that you helped me understand it's growing habits.
@OlgaCarmody3 жыл бұрын
Wonderful! You will be abundantly rewarded with many happy offsprings. Lamium tends to become leggy during the heat of summer after its blooms. You can give it a trim and new fresh green bushy foliage will soon appear. Happy Gardening!

I had spotted dead nettle in my shade flower bed for 10 years... in Montana it wasn't invasive, it would sneak a bit into the grass, tiny little starts, and I'd pluck them out and plant them elsewhere. But the spread is slow, and not killing off any other plants. I had a Bleeding Heart in the middle of the dead nettle, it'd come back every year even though dead nettle surrounded it and I'm sure all their roots were tangled together. Nice that when the bleeding heart bush was done and died back, you could see no bare spot as the dead nettle just laid over the area. A beautiful plant, and a mild spread but not invasive, it just gives you a few babies every year to transplant or pluck. Beautiful flowers and it continued to bloom from late spring till frost made the plant sleep through the winter. I am in an apartment now and I've bought some seeds of spotted dead nettle and will create a indoor plant that can be in partial sun. Because it only died back due to winter coming, I'm betting it will just grow all year in a planter inside. I miss my Spotted Dead Nettle!

Excellent tutorial thank you. Ignore the hysteria below. It's not an aggresively invasive plant outside its confines as it doesnt self seed easily. Also it is loved by pollinators. Here in the UK it is simply a cultivar of the wild dead nettle.

So curious about your fencing around the area with raspberries. Did you buy it or make out of willow?

After living in the south and seeing what horrors things like Kudzu and Privet have done, never mind the honeysuckle and buckthorn, I am very much against planting non-native species like you're showing here. You might keep it in check, but all it needs is for you to not be around, maybe carried off by a bird or squirrel, and then it's loose in the ecosystem where it can wreak as much havoc as the other non-native and highly "vigorous" plants have done. There are so many native species that are analogous to the Lamia, like Alleghany Spurge, that I really can't justify taking the risk even if I do thing the plant is pretty. As gardeners, we have an obligation to the land, to be stewards since we won't always be around to tend to things. The people who introduced the Chestnut Blight, Kudzu, Burning Bush, Privet, English Ivy, and other such invasive plants all thought the same thing - it's pretty and I can keep it in check. And all we have to do is look around at our ruined landscape to see the damage done. I do love your videos and your passion for the plants. I could listen to you talk for hours and not mind one bit.
