Thank you so much for being soooo descriptive in your video!! I really appreciate that you took the time to explain everything single thing (and visually showed it), most of the time you only get bits and pieces. I was originally only trying to replace the cartridge in my bathroom tap but the bottom part broke off and I couldn't get it out. I tried calling a couple plumbers but they suggested I just get a new faucet. I've been working away at this for over a month! I went out today and bought a new faucet and was watching your video, it gave me the confidence to try and replace mine. You mentioned one thing, about corrosion and using vinegar. I decided to just try pouring some vinegar down the tube to see if it would loosen the part that broke off (it was stuck/glued on). After a couple of mins I tried pulling the stuck part out and it came out!!!!! You just saved me $75, I will go return the new faucet now. Thank you again!

Thanks for the clear instructions. I have seen other DIY clips of yours on YT. Including this one, I really appreciated how deliberate you were as you walked through each of them and did not have your soothing voice compete with any background music. Anyway, I was researching how to replace a drop-in bathroom sink and this one was among them; it quickly caught my eyes because I was familiar with its author and I had the same faucet, but in brushed nickel (bought in 6/2023).

Excellent instruction. I especially the close-up views, which really helped me with my installation of the Moen Adler. The space under and around my vanity was very cramped, with a divider post between two doors, and I could reach up high behind the sink only with my left hand (I'm right-handed). My faucet came not with large hand-tighten nuts but with two short angle-iron bars, cylindrical spacers to go around the faucet's threaded mounting extensions, and 7/16 nuts. The holes in the sink were too small to permit pre-assembly above the sink and dropping the bars through the holes by tipping them at an angle, as suggested in Moen's instructions, so I had to do the assembly from below, with one hand. Impossible! I finally cut some thin strips of Scotch tape and taped together the stack of nut, spacer, and bar, which worked very well. My biggest problem of the day, however, was trying to unscrew the old drain flange from the old metal drain pipe. WD-40 helped me to loosen the gasket nut and screw it to its lowest position, so that I could raise the flange above the sink bottom enough to clamp a vise-grip to it, but WD-40 still didn't loosen the drain flange, even after about an hour of soaking. After much frustration, I finally remembered to pray and ask my Heavenly Father for help. Instantly I remembered that I had learned, as a chemist, that most metal carbonates are decomposed by heat. (Hard water deposits are hydrated carbonates of mostly calcium and magnesium). I inserted a screwdriver from above to prop one side of the flange away from the sink and heated that side with a propane torch. I cooled it back down with a hair dryer on the cold setting (water would probably have cracked the sink), rotated the flange 180 degrees, and repeated. The old drain flange came right off!

Hey. When you cut off the pipe, you should clean it by sanding or gently smooth the pipe so hair and other particles won't easily get stopped by the jagged edges from the cut. it would somewhat prevent it from clogging the drain. Overall, well done!

I just bought this for about $80.00 because things are more expensive in Canada. It looks like really good quality compared to the flimsy faucet I had on for years. We have very hard water here full of calcium and other minerals and cheap taps do not last long. Tired of always having to remove the cartridges to replace washers in the old turn taps. I could do it with the instructions, but I hate it when the instructions are included for more models. It takes a few minutes to figure out you have a different model/parts although it does say there are some differences in installation. Was only going to replace the taps but since the drain is included too, might as well do the works Your demo confirms exactly how I thought it would go, but nice to have confirmation. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. I'm about to attempt to install a faucet and my husband usually does it. He is now in hospice so I've been trying to tackle the things he once did because, as you said, it's cheaper than having to call in a plumber. I found out where the main shut off is, it's under my house, which I will never go but he told me I could shut it off from the street if I needed to. Your instruction was very helpful to me and I plan to go join your facebook group.

This is a good video. I agree with the positive comments here n will probably watch again once our project starts. We removed a 50 yr old sink n vanity. New unit will be a no overflow solid sink/top. My question is are there any no overflow drains that can be connected to the rear push/pull lever of a faucet that would normally be connected to an overflow drain? Or are we stuck literally pushing the drain directly? Thanks in advance.

Always a good idea to use teflon tape on metal-to-metal supply threads--but careful to not get on the seating face. Also, better to use an adjustable wrench, which will cause less abrasion on the finish of the metal nuts. Finally, it is recommended to remove aerators prior to running water. Run for 30 seconds to flush any impurities from the lines, then reinstall aerator. Failure to do this can ruin the aerator in the first minute of use.

As I get ready to install 3 Adler faucets in my bathrooms. I was glad to see your video. I saw on your drain assembly that there was a friction washer above the nut and below the rubber gasket , my single lever Adler came without a friction washer, is that OK???? should I get one or make one?? or spray a little WD40 to let the nut slip a bit as it contacts the gasket as I turn the nut??
@ronwalters8434
@ronwalters8434 2 жыл бұрын
the friction washer is used to evenly put pressure on the rubber gasket to take into account of the threads pitch. I suppose the gasket would need to be at at least the thickness in between the threads. Your point is interesting but I do not believe that gasket will turn once taught.

I thought only stain free plumber's putty could be used with a plastic drain? Currently I have a new Moen drain piece that leaked, so I replaced the plumber's putty and used 100% silicone. Problem is the silicone won't set up. It's still soft after four days. Is that because it's expired? If I try installing the gasket and nut below the sink, I feel certain that it will leak.

Serious warning - do not tighten the plastic nuts hard because you will not going to be able to remove them with your hand later on and any tool you might try to use for that will break the wings on the nut. Hacksaw job underneath the sink looks like lazy improvisation. Take the drain out and cut it properly. Other than that decent guide.
