Hi Marie. I have a question about using the shampoo and conditioner bars. Do you have to use a vinegar rinse when using the shampoo bar? I have held off making them because I didn't want to have to use vinegar rinse after the shampooing.....can you explain this to me? Do we have to use vinegar rinses or can we use shampoo and conditioner bars just like using normal shampoo and conditioner?
@soapsblyslyo13795 жыл бұрын
You don't need to use a vinegar rinse when using the shampoo bar. (If you have color-treated hair it will dull the color too). Sly
@jenniferkleffner81104 жыл бұрын
Vinegar rinse is recommended when the shampoo bar is made of true soap, which has a high pH. These are not true soap shampoo or conditioner bars. Low pH. Suited for hair. No need for a rinse.

Hi Marie I was curious about BTMS 50 usage rate of 1-10%. This recipe calls for 30%. Is this an acceptable ratio due to the fact it is a conditioner bars? Thanks You are so amazing. I have tried soooo many of your recipes and my family and friends live everything.
@HumblebeeAndMe5 жыл бұрын
This bar features 30% BTMS-50, which would be a lot for an emulsified cream conditioner, but solid products require more solid things (like BTMS), so they end up being formulated differently. Obviously, safety concerns are still a thing, but it’s also worth keeping in mind this is a rinse-off product, and usage rates tend to be higher for wash-off vs. leave-on. This is based on a professional supplier formulation that used 60% BTMS 25, which is the same amount of the active ingredient as 30% BTMS 50, and I've trusted that professional formulation is within safe usage 🙂 Cosmetics Info and the CIR haven’t been very helpful regarding maximum usage rates for BTMS, only typical usage rates. I hope that helps!

I am trying to find a stink free version of the silk peptides I'm in the UK and I can find the liquid form. Can I still use it? How would I incorporate it? And will the liquid form be stink free? I checked your blog and you got yours from Amazon - does that one smell ok? We have the same one here but several reviews complain about the smell. Does the orange fragrance mask it? Thanks!
@sandyp48465 жыл бұрын
Hi Marie! I really enjoyed your video, but I'm a little confused about recommended usage rates. If the recommended rate for BTMS-50 is 1-10% (according to Lotioncrafter) would this not mean your recipe uses too much? Or am I missing something? Thanks so much for sharing your recipe with us. :)
@HumblebeeAndMe5 жыл бұрын
Recommended usage rates are not necessarily the same thing as maximum allowable usage rates. For instance, Lotion Crafter lists the recommended usage rate for cetearyl alcohol as 1-25%, but there's no reason it couldn't be used higher-it's just not hugely likely you'd need to in many applications (but we use more here). I've not been able to find a maximum allowable usage rate for BTMS from a body like the CIR. 1-10% makes sense for an emulsified conditioner, but this isn't an emulsion and solid versions of shampoo & conditioner bars require higher concentrations of the active ingredients. It's also worth noting this is the same concentration of BTMS as is present in the sample, professional formulation :) I hope that helps!

Hi Marie. I feel that you're quite knowledgeable regarding body care recipes/ ingredients, and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind taking a look at this hair conditioner bar recipe that I decided to make from another You Tube video that someone else posted and while it does work incredibly well, unfortunately, every time I use them, I get hives. I tried the ingredients one by one on my inner arm with no reactions, so I'm left to wonder if perhaps it's two or more when combined, that may be the culprit. I know that the butters in the recipe aren't the problem because I've used them all the time with no reactions. I would also like to add that the E wax in this recipe is a whole new thing for me, but I did melt some down on it's own and applied it to my inner arm with no reaction..Anyway here's the recipe 13 oz of btms 25 3 oz of emulsifying wax 2 oz stearic acid 6 oz cetyl alcohol 3 oz mago butter 2 oz shea butter 2 oz jojoba oil 2 oz avocado oil ( I used apricot kernel oil ) 3 oz glycerin .3 oz of DL panthenol .1 oz vitamin E oil .3 optiphen plus

@HumblebeeAndMe4 жыл бұрын
I've found the water in this formulation prevents that from happening, but it does happen with conditioner bars that don't include water. It's quite strange that you've encountered the wrinkles in this formulation :/ You can fix it by blasting the top of the bar with a heat gun or hair dryer to re-melt part of the bar-they typically re-set without the wrinkles. Happy making!
