DoctorscarecrowTV I'm getting discouraged, because it's been 3 mos and I still can't use chopsticks. I hope you get to stay in Kyoto, because I admire the Japanese culture.
@Palmroxx10 жыл бұрын
nubiansista4life Hold them like you would two forks, or two pencils. Start out with food that isn't too soft and mushy. Also, the lower you hold them the better. Don't think about it too much and just "do it" :) "I want to eat and grab that rice ball now" instead of "holy crap, can I do this". I don't know why, but it's incredibly relaxing to eat sushi with chopsticks while laying on the couch while watching a movie.

Thank you for this! I live in a very, very small town which has literally no sushi. Heck, we only have one Chinese restaurant and the food there is terrible, and of course it's mainly american with the exception of the noodles and even then it's only lo-mien. We recently got a new Tops which has quite an amazing Asian cuisine section, so I decided to get myself some nori, rice, an avocado, tuna, American cucumber to make my own sushi but I didn't want to mess it up. From what I've seen, it seems like sushi is sushi as long as it has nori and rice and can be catered to anyone's specific taste (vegetarian for my mom). However, being the intense lover of Asian culture I am, I really wanted to be as close to authentic as possible and you've helped me immensely! I'm even more happy with the ingredients I purchased for it, but maybe next time I'll pick up some wasabi powder. I was reading online and it seems like that's the only way to get as close to real wasabi as possible here in America. They say it's usually either a mix (50% wasabi, 50% horseradish) or just colored horseradish?!

I made some last night. I've loved sushi for years, but this was my first time making it home. When I was preparing the rice, I took a taste and was worried the vinegar had overpowered it, but once it's rolled up and combined with the other ingredients, the strong vinegar taste really mellows and it's perfect.

Sushi always looks super pretty! I tried sushi for the first time months ago, and it made me very, very sick. :( I want to try it again because it is so pretty looking, but I am afraid I will get sick again. I know I am not allergic to anything in the type of sushi I had, which were california rolls by the way. Any one know why I got sick?

Oh, I also forgot to ask why does Tom cut things so close to his fingers? I feel like he is going to get hurt! Be careful, haha. :)

weensie101 Most chefs cut close to the fingers or right up against the knuckles, with the fingertips curled slightly inward. It's the best way to meter your cuts for the most uniform slices at high speed, but it takes practice and is not to be undertaken with impunity. The idea is that if the knife blade is against your knuckles and you never lift the edge of the blade higher than your knuckles, and you keep you fingertips curled slightly inwards, it is technically impossible to cut your fingertips. I don't know why you got sick but it was probably garden variety food poisoning and not related to the specific type of food. You are way more likely to get sick eating spinach or lettuce, so I'd get back on the horse and give it another try. Maybe at a different place.

Most obvious reason as to why you get sick would be the fish was bad. Always make sure you get "sushi grade" fish, be it, tuna or salmon.
@fdtguru667310 жыл бұрын
Guitar Tech Sushi Grade generally just means it was frozen at very low temp for a week or so. Technically, there is no standard for what is sold as "sushi grade", but being deep frozen is really the only important part. The FDA does stipulate that if the fish is intended to be consumed raw, it must be “frozen and stored at a temperature of -20°C or below for a minimum of 7 days”. Freezing will not affect the types of contamination that make you sick in the fashion of food poisoning, such as salmonella or E. coli. Sushi grade freezing measures just protect you from parasites, and it has nothing to do with how fresh the fish is. With the exception of anisakis worms in salmon (which give you a temporary stomach ache soon after eating), fish parasites don't make you immediately sick, but instead have long terms health effects that usually go unnoticed for years, so if you got sick soon after eating, it probably had nothing to do with the fish being sushi grade or not.

I had a very bad hive ALLERGY because this shop sold sushi that was contaminated with something in the salmon so now my mom wants me to eat only home made sushi. This helped a lot! Thank u for showing me this!
