we dehydrate the bottom third of the asparagus. I throw them in the dehydrator when we do other stuff. once dry I run them through my bullet blender and make asparagus powder. It's super nutritious and goes in all our soups and stews to add flavor and vitamins. Will for sure make these veggies in the fall to preserve some of our harvest for winter. great video.

Ladies, Up in The Twin Cities at the Mall of America (MOA) they have an Everything Garlic Store...next time you make the pickled Gardinera you gotta toss in a head of pealed garlic cloves they are a great addition and taste superb...at the store they sell pint and quart size jars of pickled garlic with or without hot peppers. Last summer I made pickled taqueria with loads of Jalapenos, carrots, onions, and garlics...that stuff was incredible...I saw your pickled watermelon rinds, gonna do those soon, as I have an uncut melon in my fridge... but the taqueria and these mixed Gardinera veggies got my mouth watering... BTW I'm so sorry to have read that Steve in no longer with us may he RIP. Please keep the recipes rolling as I am kinda a newcomer to this page thanks for what you ladies are doing

I am new to pickling, but I wondered if minced garlic or even garlic cloves would be okay to include? I know the value to health of garlic and the value of fermented/pickled foods, and I love the flavor garlic adds so, thought it couldn't hurt to ask if it presents a problem when pickling? What about sweet pickled garlic cloves by themselves?

Yes, It is recommended to water bath for safety. Many people find it keeps the veggies crisper.

Can you use this recipe for eggs??
@CookingwithShotgunRed2 жыл бұрын
you reuse pickle brine, you are recycling the same brine. This is not good because it dilutes flavor and can become unsafe. So, if you want to pickle eggs in their shell then put them in fresh water every time after removing to clean off any excess salt or spice mix on the shells or repeat until satisfied.

@CookingwithShotgunRed4 жыл бұрын
Yes they are! :)
@AsTheWheelsTurn4 жыл бұрын
they do not really need to be though, just FYI. washing with soap and water is just fine, the brine will not allow any bacteria to grow, that is the whole point behind pickling, it is a way to preserve food that they used LOOOONG before everyone got all crazy about sanitizing. not to say it is a bad thing to sanitize your jars but it is a redundant thing without a doubt.
