hello and tnx for the videos....i wanted to know whether you prime your paper with gesso or something similar before painting - i bought fabriano 300 gram paper and painted on it with acrylic (its a paper supposed to be good for both oil and acrylic)..but it did got blown a little, did not remain flat completly. i was wondering maybe i needed to prime it before or something similar. tnx
@ImperfectPaintings3 жыл бұрын
Hi viewer (😉) it's a bit difficult, it depends, a lot, on: the paint you use (different brands have different results), how much you apply, if you apply multiple layers, season, humidity, heat (dry air indoors in winter because of heating) and so on. You have to play around and see what works in your case. I use 200 grams, I had the perfect paper bug the company was acquired by another one and hooray for profit for someone, but the quality was lost. Now it curls in an awful way. I often use creditcard to work with and noticed that 3 thin layers of any paint helped a bit. So more layers but in thin layers worked for me. Or curling it the other way around when a base layer is dry. One last suggestion, go to your local store, buy several different sheets of paper and see which one works best, higher price isn't the answer, cheap works often better for me. Hope this helps, Albert

Hi Giulio, I use 200 grams allround drawing paper. You can use it for all sort of materials but never use water on your paper, a lot of people are used to mix their paint with water. Don't do this on the paper. Hope this helps. Bye, Albert
@giulio1294 жыл бұрын
@@ImperfectPaintings Hi Albert, thank you so much for the reply. To paint on paper I normally use the 400gr (many times I work first with acrylic gesso so even with acrylic colors I can use water to dilute them). I will also try to use the 200gr without diluting the colors with water.

@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lauren, thanks for asking. The paper is a difficult question. You have to try out what is available at your place and what works for you. I use drawing paper, 200 grams. It has a good surface so you can draw on it and erase it again. But a drop of water on it ruins the surface is, the fibers open then. I always dilute with acryl medium. I can't find the right words in english to describe my paper. I know it's acid free. Hope this helps. Albert P.S. I don't know Bristol paper or velium ...

Sorry but why do we always, after the fact, create a pattern to imitate the masters as though they were androids; Art humor ... Cy Twombly walks into an art bar. Immediately all the artists leave the bar and reenter imitating his entrance.
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lou, thanks for the interesting question. I guess I know what you're aiming at. I think because a lot of us are to shy to be bold, like Cy. By imitating others you can experience a little how this would feel. A lot of us have no clue what to paint or how to be original in art. Painting in someone else's style helps. Can it be the result of our educational system where creativity is killed everyday? Happy painting though, Albert
@LouMajors4 жыл бұрын
@@ImperfectPaintings Hey Albert I did not mean that as a personal attack. Dubuffet, Tapies, Basquiat, and Twombly are all my heroes as free spirits and expressive artists and influenced my work as examples of how an artist can flow in the moment to produce a masterpiece so I'm touchy about reducing their work to a pattern to be understood and easily reproduced. I actually admire painters who illustrate the finest technical abilities of painting which I will never master even after 32 years of painting. Peace. LouMajors
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lou, non taken. I completely agree with you. I teach people how to paint at a beginner's level. I noticed it helped them to develop their skills faster by painting in the style of. Some copy but most learn to see through a painting. It has nothing to do with making art, but it does at looking at it. Appreciating art, not being intimidated but wanting to learn more. About painting, art, why artist do what they do and they go to museums now to 'get more of the good stuff'. Just from making paintings in the style of. All my video expand on that idea. Not everyone paints for 30 years, some just started last week 😉 Peace, stay safe and happy painting, Albert
