I'll break down which trim is for you in a way not commonly shown on KZbin. For me, you have to bring each trim to life and really visualise how they will fit in your everyday practical life. That can be difficult if you don't know what to expect. Whilst the Tesla Model 3 Long Range offers a top of line experience, it's evaluating if the cost difference between the two trims is truly worth it to you, in your own circumstances. Whilst I won't make that decision for you, I will share all the details you need to hear in order to help you make that buying decision between the tesla model 3 sr+ , and the tesla model 3 long range.

Picked up my SR+ 18" on January 28th. I can say that the price paid for the extra range is an absolute no-brainer. You still get the torque, all the features, floor mats, heated steering wheel and wipers and a guesstimated range of *272 miles* in "winter" (3~5°C). I reckon the 60kWh SR+ will hit close to 300 miles in the summer.

@@Ineverreadreplies on the new 2023 it is actually more range (considering you can charge to 100% instead of 80%), same features and less torque. But for a daily drive, how many times are you going to use that torque? For 10k difference and (for me) + another set of wheels and tires for winter (+$4k) was a no brainer for me going with the SR+. $43k - $7.5k federal credit - $3.5k Massachusetts's credit. So it cost me $32k (minus 20k for my old 2 accidents 2016 GLE SUV). 12k all set and done (+ taxes, delivery and fees). I will save 1k a year on insurance + 1k a year on gas and probably 1k year on maintenance (Mercedes maintenance is expensive). Now I will have a 4 year warranty, virtually no maintenance, no visit to the gas station and a faster car (smaller, but I really do not need a big car)

Hi Great Video.I've been playing around with the ABRP for quite some time .. and when the M3 with its LFP battery came out with its extra range and 100% charging, that's when I made the decision to buy the same as there's not much in it and saved ££.It also made the decision easier to change from petrol to electricity as paying M3 money is high enough without going overboard ...

I used Better Route Planner for assessing the time difference when towing a 750kg camper. Assuming efficiency is halved on both the latest standard LFP & LR and allowing a 30 minute overhead for unhitching/hitching, for each trip the difference was one extra charging stop & about an extra 45 mins each way. We do about 3-4 camping trips a year. For me, that's not a reason to spend +£8k. The only other feature that matters to me is the acceleration, but my usual passengers find even the standard LFP acceleration nausea-inducing, and the opportunities for using the acceleration are pretty minimal. I actually like the lighter feel and handling of the standard, making the best of the high ratio steering. What other EVs at £43k (+£1k for the hitch) accelerate to 60 in less than 6 secs, are as efficient, have the carrying capacity, handling and towing capacity of the M3?

I have a Dec 21 SR+ Unicorn. Bigger LFP same 5.3 speed. Coming from my 40kwh 2020 leaf it's a massive range boost for me. Also for me if drive 200 miles I need to stop and use the bathroom , stretch my legs etc. So even if i had a LR I would still stop. With superchargers I am not worried. Also for me we only do trips over the range of the car a few times a year so it was not worth cost to me. It's all about perspective. Coming from a a high powered sports saloon with 400 mile range to a RWD you are making comprises, coming from a car with a range of 130 miles and 7.9 sec. This is a massive increase.

SR+ v Long Range (I hopes thats what you said, the "v" almost sounded like "first") . I ordered my SR+ (in Blue) just over a week ago (23rd Feb) with expected delivery in August. By the 25th Feb that had come down to 21st to 31st March, and on the 2nd March a delivery date of 30th March was confirmed. My reasoning pretty well matched yours, I am a soon to be 71 year old male (BD 27th March), with a bladder to match and although I had enough in my budget (at my age I have budgeted this and one more car before I get too old to drive - with an 8 year life for each car) I reasoned I will always need to take a comfort break way before the car needs charging again so I just couldn't justify the price hike for the long range. I current have an Audi A3 Etron which has a real world range of 17 winter miles, and maybe 20 in the summer. I still do the majority of my driving on pure Electric, although I do have a daughter living 13 miles away, so a round trip always uses some Petrol. My other daughter lives just over 100 miles away and we visit about every 6 weeks. So even in winter I expect to be able to do a round trip without charging - although to be honest I have only ever done it once without an overnight stay. and even that trip allowed my to be plugged in with my Granny charger for 4 hours, overnight stays always has my granny charger plugged in. So whats left. A summer vacation when I would need to charge. And honestly that is why I first considered the Tesla - the only network I felt was reliable enough to rely on. I have a narrow double garage which currently houses my wife's car on the right - and she reverses in, I go in forwards with the Audi and we can both just about able to get out of the car in the middle. The Tesla is wider and I had also been considering the ID.3, but - a) I disliked the controls, and b) Its impossible to get for another year. I managed to arrange a test drive with Tesla for long enough to drive the car home and try it in the garage. It fits easily, but I can't exit the car. But uniquely the Tesla has Summon in its Enhanced Autopilot option. I had hoped to have tried summon, and originally they had said the sales guy would accompany me to try it, but on the day he wasn't available and so I didn't My fall back is to park on my driveway, but I have ordered the car with Enhanced Autopilot to include Summon, on the hope that it will actually work and I can garage park. Most you tube videos seem to imply there is a good chance, even if it takes several goes to persuade it to go all the way in, so fingers crossed and I will find out on the 30th.
@AdamWellinformed
@AdamWellinformed 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, that’s awesome. Yeah I think it should be verse so if I did say first that was what the intention 😂 Yeah I’ve had a little go with Summon thanks to a free trial and it’s pretty good. Not as feature packed as it is across the pond. It was a bit twitchy on the connection due to our requirement to be so close to the vehicle by law, but just backing out of the garage etc it should be a great application for you. Really easy to use as well.

Nice, the dreaded wait is the worst part, but hopefully it goes quick for you. Think I pay £9.99 a month however in the US they’ve just added a lump sum option which works out slightly cheaper over a year. I mean I use it primarily for the the Spotify and just general convenience. I’ve heard some people would rather tether their phone data and save the monthly fee. However for £9.99pm I value the convenience and integration more. Still good to have the tether option available.

Especially because LFP can be charged to 100% (272 miles epa) And it now has every interior feature like you mentioned. Heated rear seats/ steering wheel. But I just Can’t justify 5.8 ,0-60. Quick enough for anyone for sure. But when compared to a 29K ICE car like a VW GTI Which has the same 0-60. it’s.. not super impressive. Great car either way. But for now. I am still undecided between SR+ and LR. My wife and I drive a lot of miles every year, so the LR seems obvious. However, to prolong the battery life the LR should be kept between 20% and 80% charge. If we would observe that and only charge to 80 percent and don't drop below 20 wouldn't that mean a SR+ has better range, since I can go from 100% to 1% without any problems? Thanks for any advice.
@AdamWellinformed
@AdamWellinformed Жыл бұрын
Hey, yes whilst that 80% rule should be followed. Its way more flexible, its not a super strict rule, so even charging to 90% daily would be fine. A better way of looking at it is that you such only charge to 100% in the long range if are about to do that mileage shortly after charging finishes. The issue is really about charging to 100%, with the car remaining idle and not used. If you are doing the distance then you should be good still. The SR+ has that different battery chemistry which is just more happy to be idle with that 100% charge. Hope that helps 👍⚡️

@@AdamWellinformed Thank you for your reply. Range is a big deal for us as we have long drives almost every day (100 mls round-trip), but we have no driveway. We want to install a home charger, but since there is a public road in front of our house there is no guarantee we will get to park in front of our charger. As such an LR seems to make sense, but I am worried that if we charge it to 100% every time that after a few years the battery will degrade quite a lot. The LFP batteries just seem to be better that way. I am really not sure. This will be our first EV and it is a whole new world.

I am currently on a standard electric tariff, do you think it would be worth switching to octopus go?
@AdamWellinformed
@AdamWellinformed 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Axel, that’s a great question. Scary times out there for electricity prices but the answer is way more complicated then it was back I got my EV. Both the night and day rate was cheaper then my current tariff 😂 My guidance to you is if you have a Tesla/EV already see how much energy you use to charge per month, then times it by your current rate and again by 12 for your annual figure. Then compare that to say Octopus Go’s rate. You will see a difference in cost for sure but the key part is working out if say Octopus Go’s day rate will work for you also. So do the same formula with your monthly usage (note you may have to deduct your charging energy usage from your totally monthly total to get a good estimate of your day usage). Don’t forget to times your daily standing charge by 365 and that cost to. Once you’ve got that, you can compare the overall cost of both your current bill vs a simulated illustration of how a off peak EV tariff will work. That’s not everything you need to work out if it’s a great decision to move, that will involve some dedicated research I’m afraid. Everyone’s circumstances are different. Switching may, or may not be the way to go. But hopefully this gives you a good idea of how the cost position may fair. If that was useful or confusing, let me know and I can see if I do a whole video on this 👍⚡️ Not that this should influence your decision, but if you do conclude yourself that you want to go ahead with a Octopus tariff make sure you use a referral link. I have one in my description of every video if you want one.

Again, I really like your video, thanks. The only thing that gradually needs to happen, even with the best of these videos, like yours, is to consider, that if a car is not FSD capable it is at best an interesting antique. So.... ....that is not about trim, or about performance, or about vegan leather, or about the steering wheel, or about the handling or about the rims or the tires, it is instead about two things 1) the computer and 2) the computer's connection to the car, which needs to be 100%..... ....as we get there, we will stop talking battery, charge speed, etc... the robot handles all that.... So please consider not only FSD deep dive, but also really high-level FSD video, simply the user perspective, point A to point B, where did it work, where not, repeat.....

Hi Thomas, FSD is a very interesting topic for sure and I have video ideas around it’s integration planned. Just need to get round to it!! Think it’s to soon to say it’s failed because it’s in Beta and work in progress. That said it has failed on it’s previous implementation dates but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s entirely garbage. Just not working and developing as quickly as intended. Personally I think Tesla should have managed the expectations around FSD a lot more! Setting and missing deadlines has a negative perception with most consumers. When in reality it’s just not progressed as quickly as intended. Here in the UK, I’ve had a really positive experience with Autopilot for months now. But I use it solely on the motorway as it is advised. It really bugs me when I see UK videos or tik toks saying it’s pointless and doesn’t work when they’re using it on city streets! Our FSD software hasn’t been updated to included that function so of course it isn’t going to work! It’s a controversial subject for sure and many opinions, I think most of it stems from wanting it to work as intended and the software just isn’t there yet. That’s why Tesla should of managed consumer expectations a lot better. People that want it and buy it just want it to work. I get that, I just hope Tesla can pull it off. Tesla have the data to see progress quarter by quarter so I think they have the ability to pull it off. There just later then intended. But better late then never 😂 Thanks for watching, can’t believe how quick your getting your order. Get that carport done, you’ll love it once it’s in your possession 👍⚡️

@@AdamWellinformed Check, points well taken. Then there is the inevitable future which is FSD and it will be camera based, Elan is right. He wrote paypal back in 1998 when I was working at netgov to create first pay parking tickets online. So I get the idea of planning a car as an IT project. So again, my tip, is OK with the smoker-car, general-context (seats, windshield, steering wheel, etc...); I get that, that is still relevant. But then there is this TM3 which is boldly and amazingly successfully entering the "IT Car" or robot era. Try the lane keeping on a KIA EV6 -- its a joke. Try FSD on TM3 with auto lane change -- works, I think, never tried it, but will soon!!!! I think they’ll pull it off. They have vision and can evidently execute whilst under immense pressure. Time will tell but I think people don’t see the true value of FSD if they can pull it off. As you’ve highlighted, to many people sadly pass away from avoidable road accidents. If we can mitigate a 50% or 80% chunk. Thats literally life changing but sadly most of the media will focus on the other 50% or 20%. The true meaning will be in the data. I look forward to the day we see a line chart of a ever reducing line to mark the lives saved by this revolutionary technology. It will be one of the greatest technological advances we see before our very eyes. Just needs to get there 🤞
