Being able to record what goes on in the cockpit while I fly and watching it when I'm done has been a great learning tool for me. But figuring out how to setup the cameras to make it happen took me a while to figure out. Here is my setup for the Cirrus SR22T G6.
Equipment List
(2) Go Pro Hero 5 cameras
(2) Garmin Virb Ultra 30 cams
Go Pro remote-mostly useless I’m afraid
(4) 64 GB micro SD cards and spares
(2) Ram Mounts
(1) for Pilot cam mounted on Co-Pilot side of windshield
(1) for Ipad Mini mounted on Pilot side window-high enough so as not to interfere with
side yolk but low enough not to block view.
(2) Go Pro/Virb Adhesive mounts
(1) Go Pro Chest Cam Mount
(3) Ainope 10,000mAh Portable Chargers attached with Velcro
(2) 6” Micro Usb cables for Virb cameras to portable chargers
(1) 6” Usb cable for Go Pro to portable charger
(1) 4’ USB-C cable from passenger USB port to GoPro behind and around pilot seat
(1) Apple Ipad Mini 4 with Go Pro mobile app
(1) Apple Iphone 7 with VIRB mobile app

Great video! ... My setup in my G6 is similar ... But I didn't think about the power banks attached by velcro... (Brilliant idea and would avoid my constant dread over dead batteries!)

Nice, thanks for doing this Ren, I have to figure out how to mount in a rental, I bought a cheap window suction mount, worth what I paid for it, will look for a ram mount.

Paul did you ever figure out a good ceiling mount option for renting?

@@ericbuhrendorf Hi Eric, no I didn't, seems every time I try to video, go pro lets me down, so I've taken a little while off and just been flying.

I fly a G6 also and have been experimenting with different mounting positions. Unfortunately, I don’t own the airplane so I have to rent from my flying club which means I can’t use anything sticky so I have been trying different suction cup mounts. Suction cups don’t work on the ceiling speaker so I haven’t been able to get a central view like you. I am intrigued by the chest mount.

Try using removable 3M strips. They can be easily removed and don't leave any residue.

Yes it is. I found that the full size Ipad was just too big and blocked my view.

Hi Ren. Great Videos! I’ve been flying a Gen 6 for 6 months and learning a lot watching your flights. Would you be able to point me to instructions on how to connect a Virb to the radio panel via Bluetooth? Not having luck getting this figured out. Thanks
@TheRenBaron

Go to the Wireless settings on Main menu of the VIRB to pull up wireless options. Select bluetooth and make sure its turned on and the Garmin panel is in pairing mode and then Add New.

Great content - why the mix of GoPro and Virbs? Any reason you didn’t do Virb for the overhead off the speaker?

I use the VIRB cam to record the cockpit audio from the Garmin audio panel with Bluetooth. Go Pro cams will not allow you to do that wirelessly. I like to keep the cockpit as clear of cables as possible.

Very nice setup, especially the mounts which are always a challenge. What program do you use to put together the final video?

I rent and don’t have those metal plates on the ceiling speaker. Can’t seem to find an impermanent mount for over the shoulders. Any ideas? Thanks for this video and your channel.

I recall seeing one video where the guy put what amounted to an adjustable shower curtain rod between the windows in the back seat and attached the camera to that. I recall seeing that and thinking there must be a better way. I wish I could be more help. Cheers-Ren

How does that Virb record the ATC audio? I didn't see an input cable other than the batter cable.

Hey Steve quick question. Do you have any problems with cameras overheating?
@TheRenBaron
@TheRenBaron 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I have had overheating issues with the dashboard cam in the summer when the sun bakes down on it. When that happens the only thing I can do is turn it off.

Is it hard to edit from all 4 Cameras?
@renmanmb

tim upchurch I use Final Cut Pro multicam view which allows you to switch views easily. Just takes a while to process the videos before you can use multi cam.

Thanks for sharing. Two questions, do you keep a lithium battery containment bag on board should one of the batteries experience thermal runway? Have you noticed any interference with the magnetic compass from the electronics sitting on the dash?
@TheRenBaron
@TheRenBaron 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I do not have a thermal containment bag and I've not had any issues with the compass so far.
