I just purchased this tool and installed the seal yesterday. I replaced all the seals and installed a front cover gasket on the front diff. I was reluctant to try the long bar thing some people were doing(treaded rod) but when I saw this I had to try it. This tool worked perfectly! Thank you! I highly recommend this to anyone. I will say one thing, be careful when installing the intermediate shaft back in. Take your time going thru the new seal.

I made a tool like that .worked great! The only problem is if the passenger seals goes out the driver's side is on its way out as well ..if you have the lift or it's summer time just pull the pumpkin and do both sides

Just received your tool! Slapped the seal in super easy! Any tips on getting the splines on the intermediate shaft to align? Surprisingly enough, that’s been the hardest part of the job

A little patience and a light touch are typically all that's required to get the splines to line up in the differential. For the shifter collar splines, make sure the little plastic bushing is in good shape where the pilot on the intermediate shaft fits into the bore on the outer axle shaft. Also make sure the needle bearing on the outer end of the intermediate shaft is in good condition.

You do need to pull the inner axle, but when the outer axle and shifter mechanism have been removed, there's nothing left in the way. It'll slide right out.

Can I remove the Shift collar out of there if I only remove the outer axle? I have the posi lok system. Plowed with the truck for years. And as soon as it finally sits for a couple years of no plowing, my shift collar keeps popping off the inner axle inside. It’s a terrible clunk and it’s chewing up the teeth on my inner axle so I stopped until I can figure out my plan of attack. I was gonna replace that whole shift fork assembly also since it’s pretty used at this point.

With this tool, can I do the seal through the cad where the shift collar goes where you’re showing the tool inserts without removing what’s inside the pumpkin I think you call it the carrier? Yes, you can replace the seal using this tool without removing anything from inside the pumpkin. Only the right inner axle needs to be removed, and this slides out easily once the outer axle and shift fork are out of the way. This tool does make the job simple. I've been working on vehicles for most of my life, and still don't have a socket lying around that will make short work of replacing this seal.

I hope i can get a quick reply on this one. I'M in the process of change my seal on my gladiator have a dana 44 i notice in the bore where the seal goes there is a little lip maybe like 1/8 away from the end of the bore, when pressing in the seal that little lip is that where the seal bottles out or should i force it over that lip.I could see in the bore you was working on to see if that year have a little lip like mine does

Every one of these I've seen has a chamfer of about 45 degrees leading into the bore where the seal is pressed. The tool in the video is designed to bottom out in this chamfer, leaving the seal supported fully around its perimeter in the straight part of the bore. Is that chamfer what you're referring to as the little lip?

The intermediate shaft slides back in from the outer end of the axle tube, right through the seal you've just installed.

The tool will automatically bottom out at the correct depth. The seal on the driver's side is accessible from inside the differential after removing the carrier, and at that point the repair procedure is conventional. We currently offer no tool designed for the driver's side seal.

The driver's side seal is serviced in the conventional manner, after removing the differential carrier. You can generally tap it in with a socket or old bearing race.

I'm curious to know how to get the seal removed and a new one installed on the driver side of the axle.. I've got a slight leak behind the steering knuckle which can be seen simply by getting underneath and behind the driver side tire.. where the axle actually meets up with the tire..

Nobody on youbtube says how to put gear oil back in the houseing. My repair maniual says you need to put 5oz back in going thru the indacator switch hole. Is there an easier way ?

I've always oiled the bearing and all other parts upon reassembly, and made sure the oil level in the differential was correct. I have never had any problems doing it this way.

Replacement of the driver's side seal is conventional, and you can usually find something around the shop that fits the seal well enough to use as a driver. Because of this, we haven't yet made a tool specifically for the left side.

Mine looks to be leaking from the front drivers side seal. Also how can I tell if I have a dana 40 or dana 60 in order to order the correct one for my application

@@ociriszues Yes, it will work for that truck. The best way to know which seal you need is to remove the old one and measure it. The second best way is to have a Dodge dealer look it up by VIN, and measure the seal they provide. That said, I have yet to see a 1500 take the larger seal, but I won't guarantee it never happens.
