How to Replace the Thermostat - Mercedes Benz W203 C240 C320 E320 ML320 ML350 V6

Here is a quick video on how you can remove and replace the thermostat on a 2002 Mercedes C240 with a 2.6L engine. But this procedure should be the same if not very similar for alot of Mercedes Made V6 or V8 Engines made roughly around early to mid 2000's.

Thanks for posting this! It was much easier than I thought on our 2000 ML320. I had to buy that E10 tool and I didn't have mess with the pulley or belt. I didn't drain the antifreeze either, I just slid a catcher under there after I disconnected the upper radiator hose. It helps to have a few adapters or extender on the ratchet but luckily I managed. Basically once the hose is removed, it's 2 bolts. Clean r&r. I'm getting kinda handy as a gal!

I found out it is 10Nm not foot lbs. That is somewhat less than the ft. lbs. measurement. Would cause people to over tighten and possibly strip the block if they used the ft. lb measurement you threw out there. At least you said thought and told people to check. I did check and found out.

What symptoms will the car show if the thermostat is faulty? Can it overheat but also can it fail to reach 80c?

If stuck open or opens too soon. it will give you the p0128 code meaning coolant is flowing in too soon keeping the engine from reaching operating temp for a long time. If it is stuck closed, the engine will overheat. When too cool, fuel mixture can be too rich, and long term wear is possible
