Hey a have a problem that im carrying behind from two months and still now I don’t know what to do. When i do my penultimate step i land with both feet at the same time instead doing 1-2 like you and a lot of pro dunkers.. but i feel it’s more natural for me and when i step 1-2 i jump lower than when i land with both feet and i feel like im not explosive. My standing vertical is 30 inches and my running jump is less 😔should i change my technique?
@SimpleSpeedCoach
@SimpleSpeedCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Most likely, hard to say without actually seeing it. It sounds like you are jumping into a jump and you need to relearn the transfer of linear force by stepping and striking the heel. Start with only 2 steps into the jump, master this and then try to add more force with more steps. It will take time and repetition - minimum 500 jumps. In the end it should improve!

@SimpleSpeedCoach
@SimpleSpeedCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Really depends on your goals, age and sport. However, I would say you could go UP to 5 times per week. The only overload is your body weight and if you were per say a basketball player, you jump everyday. Dedicated just jumping practice a good place to start would be 2 days per week 20 jumps per day.

what are the main muscles i should train to increase my vert
@SimpleSpeedCoach
@SimpleSpeedCoach 3 жыл бұрын
Obviously the muscles of the leg - calf, quad, glute, hamstring. However, you must learn to control force, which starts with the core. It's not just strength - but which type - you must be able to concentrically explode and eccentrically load with force. I would also train the ankle and foot - toes, arch, and anterior tibialis. So pretty much everything!

@SimpleSpeedCoach
@SimpleSpeedCoach 3 жыл бұрын
@@wyattwww No problem! A 3 inch differential between the two is better than most. However, improving form will improve height on your running vert. @SimpleSpeedCoach
@SimpleSpeedCoach 3 жыл бұрын
Great question, that really depends on on quite a few things: skill level, amount of previous training, body comp, relative strength and so much more - I've obviously never seen you jump. At 13 with those dimensions, I would say anything over 20 inches. I have 13 year olds that jump 30+ inches, so it really just depends. This is a skill learned and improved by repetition, It may take 100's if not a 1,000 approach jumps to build a efficient explosive habit. Keep working!!

New things feel weird - doesn't mean they are wrong. It will take repetition to improve this type of jump - 100's if not 1,000's of reps. Your body needs to learn the neuro pathway to add the explosive force to the movement. Overtime, this jump will be higher than your standing vertical - watch any dunk contest - there 2 foot approach is the most powerful jump takeoff position. Thanks for the comment!

@SimpleSpeedCoach
@SimpleSpeedCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Practice, Practice, Practice! It may take 100's of repetitions to retrain your brain. You are trying to break an old habit and create a new one. It takes time, persistence and repetition. Initially you may feel like you are getting worse because your brain is moving slower as it rewires. The more you do it, the faster it will be able to send the proper signals and your movement will improve along with your vertical! The best jumpers didn't become that way in a few days - to master your craft it takes time, effort and work. Below is a playlist of more jumping and power videos that can help improve mechanics, strength and explosiveness. Keep up the hard work! @SimpleSpeedCoach 6 жыл бұрын
If your working proper mechanics, not terrible. Obviously there is a lot of force going through your knees when jumping and landing. But that is why you take time to learn the mechanics. Plyometrics should be done in moderation, but with consideration of how often you jump in your sport. Make sure to work all areas of sport performance including strength, balance, mobility and force absorption.
