Thanks support. Setting up AP Main meshed to two nodes (total of 3 RT-AX55's). Good clue here on the cable setup for wired/ethernet backhaul as most APs can just be wired to the LAN opposed to the WAN port. Image at 00:39 into video was the key for wiring this. Main router is static IP pulling from Actiontec upstream which is connected to FOIS ONT. The Actiontec gives out dynamic IPs for the FIOS cable boxes over MOCA. Then the Main AX55 router via its static IP is meshed with two other nodes (one on each side of facility with Main in the middle). Working well. Your web based setup application should have an option for AP Mesh which was confusing. It only had Router Mesh and AP, so I thought you couldnt do the Main router as an AP with Mesh, but alas you can. All of the port forwarding rules remained on the Actiontec that is connected to the FIOS so it was a real easy hand off to the new net. Thanks again.

I've seen a few tutorials for this AIMesh, and none were able to explain it simply, right to the point... this one included. I have an Asus RT-AC86U, i've bought an Asus RT-AX86U - How do i setup AIMesh with RT-AX86U as Router and RT-AC86U as Node? What settings do i have to do in the RT-AX86U and the old RT-AC86U to get them to connect with one another? The manual doesn't help on either of them, not completely, and same goes for the handful of tutorials i've found. So in the end i had to piece it together myself from bits of info sprinkled here and there around the internet. Here's how to proceed: 1. RT-AX86U - connect to it, go to it's UI page - Administration - Operation Mode tab - Ensure "Wireless router mode" is ticked fot it to be the AIMesh Router. Then check that it is connected to the internet. 2. RT-AC86U - place it near the RT-AX86U. You don't have to do any kind of settings on this one, in fact you have to reset it, since, in the end, it will lose it's identity, be transformed into an extension of the RT-AX86U. This step is the most important, and the easiest to miss... and the one that is not properly explained. So : connect to RT-AC86U, go to it's UI page - Administration - Operation Mode - tick AIMesh Node option - this will reset it and prepare it to be a Node for AIMesh. 4. RT-AX86U - connect to it's UI again - start searching for AI Nodes - it will see the RT-AC86U - follow the steps from there, it will take about 2-3 minutes to automatically configure it as a Node. If you have an Ethernet cable instead of WiFi as a link between them (a LAN cable connected from RT-AX86U's LAN port to RT-AC86U's WAN port), this will free up WiFi bandwidth (it's not imperative, but it helps). If you can have it, then see step 5 also. 5. RT-AX86U - connect to it's UI again - AIMesh - click on RT-AC86U - Management (menu on the right) - Backhaul Connection Priority - set from Auto to 1G Wan First That's that!

The idea of a mesh is that you link all nodes together in a mesh configuration. So, from your ISP gateway to first/main Asus AIMesh router, then set up the mesh between that first/main router and the other nodes. Trying to have each node plugged into your ISP gateway actually goes against the idea of having a mesh network since you would then treat each NODE as its own access point rather than as a part of a contiguous mesh network.
@richlorenzo
@richlorenzo 2 жыл бұрын
@@Targonis1 This is what I had thought too but I don't think that's correct anymore. Based on the link shared by Asus Support above, it looks like you still have a mesh network when setting up an Asus AIMesh device in "AP mode". This would be Scenarios 3 and 4 on the FAQ link that Asus Support provided above. As far as I can tell it looks like you can put a switch or even your ISP's provided router in front of the AIMesh router and as long as the AIMesh router is set to "AP mode" you can still build your mesh network with the nodes.

Update: Feel bit stupid now. Traced down stuck set top box connected via one of my switches which caused all the mess on the network. As soon as I restarted switch and set top box, both routers connected flawlessly and ethernet backhaul seems to be stable since that. Moral of the story is when adding new component, start with most simple setup before bitching around. Original message: Unfortunately my setup of two rt-ax55 routers using ethernet cable as a backhaul is not working at all disconnecting after anywhere from few seconds to few minutes. Did everything possible and impossible to fix this including tampering with firmwares, factory resets, changing cables, things mentioned in this video etc etc nothing helps. Funny enough I bough second rt-ax55 as a replacement for old broken ac68u unit which worked as a “master” in setup with ax55 without any issues before. Sometimes I do not understand how Asus does qa/testing :/

I see this on file transfers and also internet speed tests since I have gigabit down from my ISP. I got the same 500mbit with it. I believe it started after a recent firmware update. I verified that the connection between the routers is gig full duplex also, via the SSH terminal. A wired mesh setup will always be more reliable as long as your ethernet cables are good. That is why this video was made, to show how to set up the mesh using ethernet/wired. If you have a longer distance between nodes, then wired will also provide a better backhaul vs. using WiFi since your signal strength and speed will not be degraded due to distance. Remember, if you get 874Mbps WiFi when close, but at 700 feet you are at only 230Mbps, a wired backhaul will give you much better speed. This is also where having something like the AX11000 as your primary node will come in handy, because it will be better about handling the bandwidth between 3+ nodes, compared to an ax6100 or ax6600 unit(processing power matters).

ASUS support please help🙏🏾 i have one rog rapture gt-ac5300 in wireless router mode. (+1 in aimesh + 2 rt-ac67u as nodes) and in the last few weeks I’ve lost Connection to all AImesh nodes. I tried to reconnect them, didn’t work, tried to reset them did not work. And my suspission is that it went wrong with the two last updates. I can’t even connect to the router using the app or web-GUI. How do I fix my home network?

Hi@@KamiDRyu May I have the firmware version of your gt-ac5300 and rt-ac67u? How did you reset the three routers? Is there any error message while wireless connecting and reset? Do them still lost connection with wired connection(Ethernet backhaul)? www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1035140/

Hi, according to your question, may I ask whether you want to set up wired or wireless connection? Do you mean after you set up but there's no WIFI connection? Which steps you don't understand? Have you follow the steps according to the video or the FAQ at the description box? Can you connect nodes to the primary router? Or connect one after one to the nodes? Also, could you provide your firmware version? Thank you.

What is the point of this system if you cannot connect all nodes wirelessly to either the ISP Modem or Zen Router ?? My setup, no matter how close the Router / Node are together, constantly flicks between white & blue flashing lights. Also, you change a setting on the App, and then 30 seconds later it's back to what it was previously .. Total waste of time & money.

@@asus_support I'm using a pair of ET12's. The router is connected via the WAN port to the AT&T router. I then have the Node connected with a Cat6 cable to the 2.5Gbit port on the Router and the WAN port on the Node for wired backhaul. That being said, I should have access to WiFi 6E via the Node because I've confirmed that the Node backhauls through the cat6 to the router. I'm thinking there's some kind of firmware issue preventing the Node from broadcasting a WiFi 6e signal. It's very frustrating considering I paid 900 for such a high end piece of tech just to be let down by the Node not giving me access to WiFi 6e and limiting me to just WiFi 6.
