Part of keeping healthy bowel habits includes sitting properly on the toilet to poop! Position your knees higher than your hips 2. Spread your legs a little more than hip width apart 3. Lean forward, placing your elbows or forearms on your knees, keeping your back and neck neutral 4. Let your stomach relax 5. Either use your breath or a gentle push to initiate your bowel movement, do not strain or hold your breath 6. If you cannot poop, get up, move around, and try again when the urge returns. Do not sit for more than 5 minutes! Thank you for watching 💩

On many occasions I dive into comments section to get a feel for the video presenter and the audience, in terms of presenter’s engagement and quality of responses. Honestly, your channel is the FIRST one that not only presents quality response, but authenticity of your responses has impressed me. That is why I took my time to let you know you are one of the rare individuals who puts her best into what she does. I understand it takes more energy for high quality engagement. Therefore I wish you to have continuous highest energy that keeps rewarding you also.🙌 👌👌👏👏👏👏

If you sit at 90 degrees or slightly further back you get the same effect as it squeezes down the passage by itself. Just minimal pushing. I discovered this when I was late and was putting on make up whilst on the loo .....

Thank you Tory for a thorough explanation for proper sitting on the toilet. One of the things I like the best about your videos is that you explain the reasons "why" on every detail you are teaching. Your professionalism and knowledge of the subject shines through! It easier for compliance when we know the reasons why we have to do things. Kudos to you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. You saved my life tonight. I honestly had no idea how I was going to poop tonight. After contracting herpesvirus a week or so ago, I did not poop for the past 7 days after the last painful poop. Felt as though my butt hole was being cut by a razor. This position helped a great lot. I wake every morning around 5 am with stomach pain and sometimes back pain (right hand side) The only way I can go is to use an irrigation system, and up to six times until I become sore. Also I have been sitting on the pan for up to 2 hours! Last night (or early this morning) I tried the massage with did help with the pain and I went back to sleep until 8.15 this morning.

Great explanation. That was helpful to understand why is it good. Btw, this video is also explaining how people in India (also in many Asian and African nations) traditionally sit on the toilet for ages. The posture you recommend is exactly how the eastern toilet is designed to facilitate good sitting posture.

I knew of someone who would stand on the toilet seat and squat and going into the bathroom after them was just disgusting and I am not just talking about the smell. No matter how balance you are at the technique, please don't do this if you share a bathroom and if you are not a clean person in dealing with your own splashes. The position explanations here are good.

Agree with this. Torie is totally irresponsible to recommend squatting on a toilet seat. At work we have to put up with Asians using the toilet this way most of the time they hit the toilet seat. I pity the poor cleaner who has to clean up the mess. Personally I think toilet squatting is just a fad for people in the west I don't believe a word of what she says that squatting enhances a straight canal for the poop to pass thru. Other than that most of what she says such as spreading the knees and taking a walk about we do it naturally no need for her to tell us about it. Rate this video 2/10

As a fysical therapist I always tell my clients that the pushing baby out is not th same as to poo but more upwards towards the pubis, or the ceiling. So tilt the pelvis up and the sacrum down. Grab the knees and push with all you can. It is top sports. So do prepare your breathing for extra condition. 10 sec breath in, 10 sec hold, 10 sec breath out, 10 sec nothing, this 3 rounds. Start easy with 4 seconds or counts. I hope you get a beatiful baby and not too tired afterwards to enjoy

Hey so, I've been really trying to apply all the tips in my daily life and it's been so helpful to notice things that I'm doing wrong. Like for me, my core is almost always held tight, so it's great to go through the mental check list body part by body part every time XD Thanks again for explaining everything so didactically that it easily sticks in your mind. I hope you feel supported not only by your social network, but also by your healthcare team. I love that you've been trying to apply these tips! I totally resonate with the tightly held abdomen -- I am so guilty of that, too! Thank you so much for the kind words about my presentation style, and thank you so, so much for requesting. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This video was so informative and well presented I could clearly understand and visualize what is going on in my body. Some people don't want to know how their body functions/or not, but I am not that girl; I want to know! Your voice is very soothing, pleasant to listen to and the word choice is good without being so medically deep I have to stop the video and look them up. Discussing bowels and pooping can be embarrassing and uncomfortable for some folks (we were raised wrong, what can I say,) until we have a problem; then it's pull out the stops! (Pun intended.) I've been pretty much doing everything you demonstrated and spoke about over my lifetime. A combination of things happened, slacked off with right food choices, (not enough fiber, binding foods,) a lot of glute exercises to stop the knee pain, bringing my phone into the bathroom - what was I thinking and I started straining and pushing. I am on the mend now and adding your information, steps, and procedures will make a big difference for sure. Again, thank you so much. Yes, you have a new sub, that's the least I could do. 👍🏽

I really love you’re channel very informative finding this information had been difficult, thank you so much. When I began menopause I started having constipation issues. Adding blood pressure medication and it’s become more challenging. Any thoughts about menopause and constipation and do you think some people just require maintenance foods to ensure good bowel habits? I’m good for a few days and then the struggle begins.
@PelvicEmpowerment
@PelvicEmpowerment 5 жыл бұрын
While I do not know the specifics regarding hormonal changes and how they affect the GI system, I suspect that is part of what is at play here. You are SO not the only woman I talk to who reports changes in constipation/bowel health either related to her cycle or with menopause. That being said, I think it's all about figuring out what works well for your body. Maintenance foods can be really helpful (as in aiming for the soluble fiber foods, as they make digestion a lot easier!) -- and staying hydrated. (The research we have for humans over the age of 55, ~36-62oz of fluid (coffee, soup, tea, - any fluid) is recommended, where 2/3rds of the intake is water!) But for someone who is dealing with a lot of bloating, sometimes increasing fiber intake can make bloat worse. If you have any specific questions, I can do my best to point you in the right direction ❤ Also, thank you so much for the kind words about my channel. It is a passion project right now, so I can't tell you how much I appreciate your compliment!

My choir teacher had taught me many years ago how to breathe deep from the diaphragm and it always stuck with me: Inhale a chest breath as described in this video and then let the air out WITHOUT letting your chest collapse. The next breath you take will be straight from the diaphragm and you will see the belly move on it’s own. Hopefully I’m explaining it properly... Who would have thought it works in tandem with the pelvic floor. Very interesting!

I was SO backed up one day, actually a few days. I tried EVERYTHING. Coffee, cranberry juice, water, smoking. I sent my boyfriend to CVS to get laxatives, gloves and whatever else he thought might help. I literally spent almost 48 hours on the toilet. When I was finally able to go, no lie, no exaggeration, it was the size of a softball. I was so shocked that I had just birthed this thing that I had my boyfriend come in and he was blown away. My problem is I feel like it gets stuck so it’s very uncomfortable to sit.

@@ruxsack4021 it’s horrible. Although, a couple weeks ago I couldn’t go. Thankfully all I really had was the bloating. I took stool softeners, Colace, probiotics and milk of magnesia. Then I was finally able to go but then my problem is since I haven’t gone in 2-3 weeks, I got 2-3 weeks to get out. The toilet was constantly getting clogged which was SO annoying with plunging and snaking it. There are times I have to either put on gloves and break it up and it’s hard to do sometimes because they are so dry and compacted or I have to pull everything out and put it in a plastic bag. I’ve never weighed it but I want to. I really feel bad for people that have to deal with it all the time.

I am so sorry to hear that you've been through the wringer trying to figure out how to manage your IBS. It can be such a tricky thing to navigate. Know that you are not alone at all in your experience -- I have heard similar reactions to Linzess & fiber in my clinic. You are not the only human to request videos on IBS (C, D, and C/D!). I would love to do those videos, maybe split up into a series of videos since there is so much ground to cover. I will bump it to the top of my list. Until I have a chance to make those, have you heard of this website? www.helpforibs.com I learned SO much about IBS through a more wholistic lens through this site. I have put together a lot of resources for my patients using this information, and I've seen some good success managing IBS with this website's ideas! Wishing you only the best, and please do not hesitate to request specific topics surrounding IBS-C/ask any questions ❤

This is a very good video. Explaining a lot of things. Kudos to you. (Pardon my spelling mistakes) A few things though: 1) If you heels are off the floor and you are on your toes then thighs do not move into the stomach to put pressure. 2) The pelvic rectum (puborectalis) muscle, a motion diagram would be better. Esp explaining the position of its attach,ent to pelvic bone (it took me a while(and exploration to other area) to understand that 3D relative positioning of Anus, rectum, pelvic bone, hip muscles, puborectalis muscle. 3) Just to explicitly state that this form (squatting) is much more optimal than sitting for pooping. Basically standing up and pooping would be more difficult than sitting. And sitting on Easter/Indian toilets would be more optimal. Also if squatting on Eastern toilets you can not squat easily for more than 10 mins. You would want to get up. Because it puts strain which your body is not used to (though it's normal) esp if you are suffering from arthritis. Your thighs/knee width have to be more than hip also because your position/for becomes more stable else squatting peith close knees would make your hip fall in to floor (without support), try it! 4) A good fiber rich meals also help in creating pressure. Trifla powder is something you look into. Or simply warm water before coffee, tea or any eating etc. In the morning before going to washroom will help clear it bout better. 5) Breathing spot on and beautifully explained esp with the side pose. 👍

In the case of haemorrhoids (= piles) or anal fissures this one will not be sufficient. Since centuries the optimal manner to overcome not only occasional constipation but chronic constipation too will be taking castor oil. Remember that castor oil is the only laxative that will not work in the intestines by irritating them, but by activating and synthesizing certain substances in the human body. So any habituation of the human body or diminishing laxative effect is absolutely impossible and castor oil is suitable in a special manner for chronic constipation. Take 1 tablespoon (= 15 ml) castor oil early in the morning on an empty stomach and 1 to 2 hours later you will remark its relieving effects.

great tips. just one nit-pick: it's the diaphragm moving down that fills air in the lungs and not the other way round (that you mentioned, that the lungs filled with air push the diaphragm down). diaphragm moving down creates negative pressure and air rushes in to balance the pressure, filling the lungs. However, it has zero impact on what you were trying to explain. Very helpful video. i will try to follow your advice.

This is a very real thing, you are not alone in this experience at all! While I cannot give individualized medical advice, I can share a few ideas: 1. Have you ever heard of pelvic physical therapy? A good pelvic physical therapist would be able to assess your lifestyle and toileting habits, your stool consistency, your pelvic floor, and your surrounding musculature to help you understand if this issue is entirely behavioral, muscular, or a combination of the two. If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a therapist near you: pelvicrehab.com 2. In the interim, a potential hypothesis could be that this thought creates tightness in the pelvic floor. Imagine the pelvic floor like any other muscle - if your imagine your stomach muscles, for instance. If I were going to punch you in the stomach, you’d want your muscles to tighten up and protect you. They’re protecting you against a potential threat (a punch!) - if this thought is anxiety provoking, it could be that your pelvic floor tightens up to protect you from a threat (the fruition of this thought), which would make it super hard to have a bowel movement because your pelvic floor acts a sphincter around your rectum! So thought happens, pelvic floor tightens because it thinks it’s protecting you, sphincter closes, really hard to defecate. If that is the potential mechanism, you could try some pelvic floor relaxation techniques the next time you have that thought and see if your ability to defecate changes after you’ve completed the pelvic floor relaxation! I have a pelvic floor relaxation routine here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIXGkpqFfL-mgqs And I also have an easy yoga routine that helps relax the abdomen and pelvic floor here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZOreq2GapubsKM I wish I could be more helpful - let me know if you have any other questions, and I wish you only the best ❤️

For some bizarre reason, I went from being fairly regular for 51 years to suddenly, losing my urge. Everything just, slowed down to a crawl and I just didn’t feel the urge. All I’ve had for the last 7-10 days in a little bit of a tingle. At first, I ignored it but then I realized, that’s my bowels trying to do something!!! So I run to the toilet and squat. I actually cross my arms on my knees, then put my head down on my forearms, relax and sway back and forth little. That sway does wonders!!! Takes my mind off things and before I know it, plop plop! 😂 What’s concerning to me is that, all though I’m constipated, my stools are still on the soft loose side. I haven’t seen a video on this exact thing yet. I went to an urgent care clinic, thinking I had a UTI, and the PA said that I might have a blockage and I should try stool softeners. I’ve taken 4 yesterday and 3 today and there’s no difference. I’m going to try the bottle of mag citrate tomorrow. I don’t know if it’s the constipation hurting my lower back or sitting in the squatting position that I’m not used to. Sigh. Why is this happening? I used to be so regular! 😩

@@clairesmith1902 I am actually intending to create a series on pelvic organ prolapse! Until then, one of the most helpful lifestyle techniques for managing a rectocele is* something called "splinting," if you want to do some research 🤗 Have you ever heard of pelvic physical therapy? A good pelvic PT could assess your rectocele, pelvic floor, surrounding musculature, and lifestyle to help tailor interventions/lifestyle changes that can improve symptoms and decrease the grade of the prolapse (usually by 1/2 to 1 grade!). POP is so, so common. Know that you are not alone in this experience at all. If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a pelvic provider near you! @@PelvicEmpowerment I really hope your channel does well, grows and makes a lot of money! I feel you should be reaching far more people and deserve many more subscribers. The issues you cover, for example, constipation, is practically a global epidemic! Tori, I noticed you did not mention the squatty potty. I do not live in the US, but saw it on Shark Tank. I think it is a wonderful product/idea. I am from and live in India, which is home to the "hole in the ground," as westerners would call it, toilet. It is fantastic and truly the ideal pooping toilet. Sadly, even in India, many urban folk migrated to western style toilets losing out on the natural benefits of using an Indian style toilet. Though I don't fault you, in the context of your video, it would have been great if could have given you western viewers a bit of insight into the ancient, ideal form of pooping followed by billions in India. Also, I have an idea for you to explore for a future video. You could create an inexpensive DIY squatty potty. It would make for a great video! While helping your viewers poop, it could save them a few bucks too 😇

I'm really sorry to hear that you're struggling with cervical prolapse. You're right, it can happen to middle-aged and older women as well as younger women due to straining on the toilet. How to heal prolapse/become asymptomatic really depends on the person. An in-person evaluation is necessary in order to tailor intervention to a person's unique presentation. There are absolutely helpful exercises, and everyone tends to think of Kegels, but sometimes someone needs to learn how to relax her pelvic floor before she strengthens it. Sometimes women need to be taught how to do a proper Kegel. Lifestyle is very important, too, and diet is also something that can be helpful in managing prolapse in that it can be used to reduce strain on the toilet. Have you ever heard of pelvic physical therapy? A pelvic PT could assess your unique presentation, your pelvic floor, and your surrounding musculature as well as take a detailed intake on your lifestyle habits and help you tailor a treatment plan that matches your individual needs! If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you: pelvicrehab.com I know the world is a different place right now -- some clinics are taking patients, others are offering Telehealth. I have used biscodyl sodium most of the time and usually 2 pills (occasionally 3) about two to three times a week. With that I am going to try your weaning process with the osmotic type laxative (mirilax) and massage. My question is, what do you think of good old fashioned, prune juice in the plan to hopefully wean off the osmotic- if I can get that far? Thank you for your help and all your knowledge. In the past physicians just shrugged and said people are just made this way and suggested otc meds. I have a great diet most of the time so...

I have a DIY constipation remedy that includes prune juice with two other ingredients that may be helpful when the time comes, it's here if it's of interest: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYqqc5eeeax8oLM Wishing you the best in your healing - don't give up!
