I used to run track in high school and lots of running in the military. Once I got out I stopped running and got fat. My daughter now runs cross country and I want to go run with her. This is inspiring to me to get back out and start and not say "oh, I have to lose weight first". I just have to go and start and keep going.

FiddlersGreenProductions YES!!! Just start with no conditions because that’s when it becomes drudgery. Even if you walk/run get out there. Thé gréât thing is you have a partner whether you run together or meet at the end, she’s there. I stopped being self conscious about my jiggle and thought at least I’m doing something about it and I couldn’t believe how quickly I gained strides with consistent small steps. Yaaay 🎊I’m excited about your comeback 😁 and happy you were inspired by the video. Thank you for watching and sharing. I have a virtual 10 mile race coming up and have to start training! I hope you managed to follow through on your goal of becoming a runner again. I have a similar background, I was an athlete in high school and college. Entered the military and ran a lot, started doing half marathons and even a 50 mile race. Got out and decided I needed to let my body recover. Two decades later I hadn’t done anything other than get fat! Starting again sucks but it’s worth it.

I’m struggling with shin splits and just not being able to run for long. I only started 3 weeks ago and I’ve never been a runner. My husband and I signed up for a 10K in July. Not sure how I’ll do but I’m not going to quit. Thank you for the video, it was very encouraging!
@QueenofDC5 жыл бұрын
Hi Selena! You’re welcome and thank you for sharing. Congratulations on starting your run journey! I’m sorry you’re dealing with nagging shin splints. It’s probably temporary since you’re a new runner. I got rid of my shin splints by 1) reducing my mileage 2) wearing Superfeet insoles (different colors based on feet) 3) wearing compression socks or sleeves. At times, I wear KT Tape. I’ve been injured or had pesky running ailments over the years but I’ve always recovered and returned to running. All the brands/items I use are posted above with links in the description. A 10K in July is awesome! You have time to recover and run a good race. Consistency is key and will build your endurance to run longer so don't worry. I highly recommend going to your local running store to have your gait tested. They can help you select the best shoes/insoles for your running style. I’ve been wearing Superfeet for 7 years. Due to my Achilles tendinitis, I now have custom insoles but I still wear my Superfeet in other shoes. Over the weekend I ran the Broad Street Run 10 Mile Race and will post that video next week. Running with Achilles tendinitis is irritating but I listened to my body and adjusted. Since you’re running in July, be sure to train/run with water or an electrolyte (salt tabs, Nuun listed above) regardless of temperature. It’s a great habit and you can lose salt/electrolytes anytime. In Washington, DC it gets hot/humid and my coach won’t allow us to run without water. Practice your race day routine during your training runs and nothing new on race day - test it all before your race. I’m excited for you and wishing you a great run! Have fun, thank the volunteers, hi-five the cheer squad, wave to the babies, and smile when you see the camera 😁! You’re going to do GREAT! We share the same belief, giving up is not an option. Please keep in touch and let me know how your first race goes. Thanks for your support!

I use to run a bit when I was younger and lately I have been thinking about getting back into it but I am the highest weight that I have ever been. I have running shoes and sports bra so that's a start. I have depression and anxiety and it's hard to get motivated but then I read that once a person gets started then it's better each time. I am also prediabetic.
@QueenofDC3 жыл бұрын
Greetings Georgina😃! I love your beautiful name. Awesome, you can do it just start slow. I too started at my highest weight nearly 200 pounds but I tossed aside my embarrassment and just started step by step. Yay! You are ready with bra and shoes and I understand your anxiety/motivation issues. Truth, once you start each day gets better because you’ll see progress and start to feel better after each run by your accomplishments. I’ve had anxiety over the years after a hard fall running, took me two weeks to restart but I did and felt good afterwards conquering the obstacle. I’ve had a torn meniscus, sprained tendons, bruised hip, Achilles tendinitis but running makes me feel good, keeps me healthy and I control it so I continue with precautions. I strength train as well to minimize injury. If you can only run 15 minutes that’s ok just start and do it at your own pace. It will definitely improve your health and help control prediabetic numbers. Please start with 10-15 minutes a day, set a reminder, run/walk but get out there, make a schedule, track progress, and celebrate each run🎊. When I’m stressed, I run and feel better afterwards. I’m not always motivated to run or exercise so instead I’ll walk. I’ll see all the runners then I may start running, if not I’m still out exercising. I make my runs fun, take pictures and my Instagram followers with me showing new sights, anything to keep me spirited and motivated. All facts, it gets better each time and is a mood changer. It’s a form of therapy! I treat myself to cute run gear because it makes me feel good and it’s motivation to exercise/run 🏃♀️💪🏾. Please check in and let me know how your first run/walk goes. The weather has been fabulous in DC, motivation to hit the pavement! I’m excited and happy you’re ready to start. Let’s get it!!🙌🏽

You're welcome and Congratulations on starting Coach to 5K! It's my favorite program to jumpstart training. I've been injured, sprained tendons, IT Band, torn meniscus and C25K gets me back on track. I have Achilles tendinitis now so lots of stretching and easing into running. It’s a slow healing painful process. Disney races look awesome and I’m sure you’ll have a great time! Yes, run the 5Ks to build your time and practice your techniques. Each race test different ways of running. Be easy on yourself and rest to recover to run stronger. Get you some epsom salt for the aches and switch up your routine. After joining my running program, I learned the importance of rest days and benefits of slow, easy runs-walks. You run slower to run faster. Make sure you’re fueling and getting your nutrients to rebuild after running. I use Endurolytes and Tailwind Nutrition during my runs to replenish my electrolytes/salt. After 5 years of running, I could no long use GU gels and had to find new nutrition. After a year of trials, I found these work great with my system. The brands I use are in the description box above. I’ve used Nuun but it gets fizzy and splashes all over my face. I agree being healthy is the #1 goal without jiggle 😂! Let’s do it! New sub! I'm from STL too and I want to start running and losing weight I just wished I had someone to workout with me because I feel like it's more fun and easier to stick to it when you have someone doing it with you.

Hi Jessica 🥰!! My homie great to hear from you 🎊. Thank you for your support and I understand. Join your local running group! In the DMV we have Pacers and Potomac River Running, my two favorites, or join a bootcamp/yoga/dance exercise group. Working out with others do help and keep you motivated. These groups are still active, practicing social distance. Please just start walk/run to get in the groove and don’t let doing it solo stop you as you find your tribe. Track your progress, celebrate the small wins and it will change your mindset and comfort level. I was embarrassed to run overweight and alone but when I started and saw progress, it strengthen my determination to reach my goal. Join a virtual workout group. These are ways I connected with an awesome run/workout community. Sign up for your first race, even if it’s virtual. The schedules are out now and start with Couch to 5K. Look up Podium Runner dot com for great running articles, local races, and resources. My race season starts in April when the weather breaks 😆🤣. Congratulations 🎊 I’m excited for your new health journey 🏃🏽♀️. I’ve been working out in the park since the pandemic and so has everybody else. I’ll also go to the park find a space and jump rope. Ease into solo workouts with baby steps. Trust me, you will inspire others and they will want to join you! I’m still on my weight loss journey and if you haven’t, watch my how I loss belly fat and weight video👉🏽 kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZisgYONepeBqJo. Please let me know if you have any questions, let’s stay connected! I also post my workouts/events and daily happenings on Instagram so follow me there too instagram.com/queenofthedistrict/. I’m delighted you found my page and we’re both from da Lou ❤️!

@@QueenofDC thank you so much for responding! I definitely need to get started because I've literally cried because of my weight! I'm just so tired of being so overweight and feeling tired all the time, I'm so disgusted with myself for letting myself go and gaining so much weight! Years ago I used to workout 5 days a week but that was so long ago and I really just lack the motivation to get started and stay on it, but I will try your suggestions! Thank you so much, I will definitely keep in touch!

@@Jessica-wz4vn I was in tears last August when I couldn’t fit any of my race shirts or clothes. Disgusted to the core but I looked at my situation, my Achilles tendinitis prevented me from running, I stopped working out and loss motivation. I told myself in the mirror either you’re going to pout or do something. You’re not getting any younger and need to take care of yourself. I wrote down exactly what I wanted/needed to make this happen and prayed on. Kid you not, my prayers were answered so I had to keep my word, I put my plan into action, searched for a new trainer, met two days later and started working out the next week. Please be kind to yourself. You’re on the right track. Start with drinking water. You don’t even have to run. Walk 30 minutes. I find joy in walking and it works for weight loss! Applaud yourself for the decision to start and take action. The past is the past, let’s focus on the now. We may never get to where we use to be; however, I’m doing my best to be better than I am ❤️. You got this 🤗!

Hi I am a new subscriber and I just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I am 53 years old and I weigh 259 lbs. If I start doing a walk/ run, will I lose weight and become a more healthy person? Thanks so much.
@QueenofDC2 жыл бұрын
Welcome and Thank you for your support 🥰! Congratulations on your run/walk journey. I’m not a doctor but if you start walk/run at your own pace, eat balanced meals, and watch your portions, you’ll lose weight and become healthier. I took my time on walk/run and started going longer and farther. Even now if I can’t run, walking 30 minutes a day keeps me in good health. It’s summer and I’ve been slacking on my veggies which is slowing my weight loss. Thus, I’ve had to add more fresh veggies and fruits (berries low sugar) with every meal and limit my sugar intake. Take your time as you start even if it’s 15 minutes that’s awesome 👏🏽 and a proud accomplishment 🎊. I still strength train weekly to build muscle. Get you a good pair of shoes 👟 and be mindful of how you feel. If it hurts, stop, assess and see a doctor. Running has taught me to listen to my body and I’ve learned how to decipher pain so I know when it’s time to see a doctor. I’m excited for you and happy you found my channel! Consistency pays off and make sure you celebrate every step along the way! Thank you so much subscribing 😃. Let’s get it 🏃🏽♀️💪🏽!
