same here bro, a bully was screaming behind me and my friends. we looked back and he was talking on the phone and said wtf r u looking at. I was like ain't nobody looking you, then he was like shoot the fair one which is 1 on 1. I was like y u wanna fight me when I had 2 ppl with me and told him just walk away it's all cool. But he thought I was scared and still want to fight me, then started brawling and he failed on the floor and I got on top of him and ground and pound him till he can't fight anymore. It was a clean fight, but he said he got slipped, and I asked him if you want round 2.He was like naww with low voice.

Mr MarkeZG I'm honestly more afraid of beating myself than getting beat in a fight. What I mean is that I know damn well I can fight, very very good. I'm a state wrestler, I've done karate for a while, very into MMA and watch tons of videos on it. When I'm level headed and focused, I can probably beat any average person on the street fairly easily. However I always get super flustered and nervous during confrontations, and it's almost like I completely forget anything I've ever been taught. I need to learn to master myself.

Being afraid is good. You shold learn how to re-engineer your brain to activate the fight instead of flight instinct. Being afraid causes your muscles to twitch at an extreme rate, due to all the adrenaline, which in turn will increase literally all your attributes, such as strength, reflexes, vision etc

You forgot to mention ONE VERY IMPORTANT Move also, which is - While Your In The Hands Up "I Dont Want To Fight" Position You Should Also Bring Your Right Leg Back (for a righty) And Your Left Leg Forward, So Your Basically In a Fighting Stance Position ... This way you are in a stance,balanced and ready for ANYTHING, and for whatever you NEED to do to STOP Your Attacker .. What I Always tell people to do is , to ALWAYS Drop one leg back and have at LEAST One hand up to the face ..

careful with full extension of arm. i would keep it a little bent. if your arm is fully extended, opponent could quickly simultaneously grab your wrist and open palm your elbow to hyper extend it thus breaking your arm. if someone does that to you but grabs your shirt you could do the same thing defensively. many people will grab your shirt for distance control, good for push pull (until your elbow is snapped :)...) always throat punch for emergencies (cuz it can kill someone)... no matter the muscle on someone their throat is just as weak I like the smiling idea

wooah thiis is a tough one!! My survival instincts would go with the suggestion shane gave. To hit the person that is screaming and waving his fists against you as soon as he pushes his chest against your hand. But my moral tells me to wait for him to throw the first attack. But then it might be too late alredy.
@JojoJuhbo
@JojoJuhbo 10 жыл бұрын
Throw first. It's all about intent, if you tell someone that you don't want to fight and he insist on coming at you...LET HIM HAVE IT! Shit, you might save his life. One day when he might do it to someone who doesn't fight and would rather stab or shoot.

I don't know what are your experiences in a street fight, but from what i know, when you put your hands up against agressive opponent and you behave very defensive this guy may become even more agressive and more confident. He might feel superior and attack you. I think it is the best to stay calm inside, but behave agressive against your enemy. That will not only build your own confidence but can also make enemy more scared (I hope you understand, Eng. is my 2nd)

I see why you might think that it is a common thought. But it is much easier to stay calm if you are not acting all aggressive and you also may be in legal trouble if it is not clear who the aggressor was. Calmly observing is the best bet and if you are non confrontational you may get out of fighting all together (the best outcome) and if an instance like you said happens, where they are still or more aggressive with violence then they were going to likely attack you either way

Hello Shane, excellent advice as usual. A little tip, even though I totally understand where you're coming from when you tell people to smile, I would only recommend it if you feel there's no way out of the given situation. Smiling too early might actually set the aggressor off. My 2 cents. Keep it up!

I used to work as a bouncer and one night a mean drunk smashed a glass beer pitcher in my face; I was cut up everywhere and I spent the entire night in the hospital while a plastic surgeon sewed my face back together. Many years later I still wear those scars but the event changed something in me as after that I was never scared of taking a simple punch again. Once you've taken the worst and come out the other side you realize you can survive anything and the nervousness disappears. I wouldn't recommend going through what I did but looking back I wouldn't change what happened as the experience made me much stronger. My point is that if you get your ass kicked in a fight you can use that experience to bolster your confidence for the next time around because you've already taken hits and you know you will survive.

Hopefully you read this before you do that. Respect comes to the individual who stands up for himself and not to the one who asks all his friends to help him because he's to scared to defend himself. All you're going to do is make him look like a victim and you and your friends bullies. I'd have more respect for a person that lost a fight but stood up to a bully while losing instead of a person who ganged up on a person because he was scared.

If he bullies you 1 on 1. Then you should fight him 1 on 1. That's street code mate. If you take him on as a group, you are asking for a group too beat you senseless. I don't make the rules, it's just how it is. Also beating him in a group just strengthens his belief that he's better than you. You need to de-moralize him. If he bullies you in a group, then come with a group and have a group-fight.

Hwdeckr you will be called a warrior only if you fight alone rather than fighting him as a gang. it is actually an other form of cowardice which indirectly conveys that you do not believe in yourself and that you need assistance and strength of a mass to handle the bully.when u feel like forming a gang remember,sheeps walk in herds but the tiger always hunt alone.

If you are calm when a fight starts you literally have a lot of power, for example you are able to harness your adrenaline and use that feeling of slowed time to plan your strikes, If you can get the hang of this the fight becomes less chaotic and more of a dance, just be careful not to get addicted to it because at this point it can feel fun. Like they say fight to defend because bullies do suck.

Shane, thanks for these videos. They are great. Almost every fight I got into when I was your age, I got tunnel vision. I never knew this was a common reaction to the adrenaline rushing into your system. I thought it meant I was afraid and I hated it. I grew up near a bad area and had some friends from there. They literally fought every weekend. None mentioned ever having tunnel vision. My opinion is that they fought so much their system didn't react with the "flight or fight" syndrome. The only training I can think of that might help people deal with the adrenaline rush is mixed martial arts. Full contact, guy trying to beat the crap out of you. I practised karate for 3 years and quit after making brown belt. I quit because I got into a fight with a streeter fighter and totally forgot every move I had practised in the gym. It was the adrenaline rush. Same thing happened to one of our black belts, who had won many tournaments, all non-contact. Karate is better than nothing, but sport karate will get a persons ass beat if they walk around thinking they're Bruce Lee because they can punch air. Or break a board. "Boards don't hit back". Bruce Lee

Thanks for the good information. I recently got into a situation where I had someone in my face yelling and I felt the adrenaline rush and my legs began to shake uncontrollably...the aggressor in this case was an elderly person so I did not want to get into a physical altercation...but he would not back down and my legs began to give way :) How can I manage my adrenaline rush without actually getting into a fight in such a situation...

I was in the same situation last month at my job and it was absolutely horrible. (I work in a retirement community) One thing I recommend is to focus on your breathing. Even if your heart's racing. And then whatever happens, take care of yourself afterwardd and show yourself compassion 💜

I usually just fight with instinct. For some reason, no matter how much training you have, instinct almost always come on top. Unless you can control that. I haven't lost a fight yet. Not that I started them. Just go with your natural flow.

Yeah those feelings are adrenaline, sometimes triggered by a fear even if you know you can beat someone and you ain't scared, it's a natural emotion you can't get rid of that, I've managed to overcome it, when u start to feel it actually inside be calm and chill and actually laugh inside, may sound weird but it actually works, as you ain't thinking about what's going to happen u think positive and a different emotion kicks in where you feel calm and happy and chill even when something seems like it's going to kick off, or u can be an idiot and get hyped up and the adrenaline will take over and you'll feel like you can't fight your way out of a wet paper bag

I always find your clips helpful and entertaining. One tip I can offer is to consider how your response will be before shoulder bumps etc. happen. There's nothing wrong with merely saying "excuse me" no matter who is at fault. An idiot who is short-tempered sometimes is looking for an excuse for a fight. Saying excuse me will often short-circuit his excuse to escalate the little interaction and he'll go pick on someone else. There's no shame in demeaning yourself for a minute when you compare this to the unknown result of tangling with a stranger whose mental functions and physical prowess is unknown. Better to walk away unscathed than any other alternative. Of course, if that doesn't work, follow the advice given in this clip.

From reading the comments there are either a lot of bullshitters or too many of you living like idiots. If you're a kid and getting into fights that's part of growing up. But if you're an adult and getting into fights; you're a criminal. Try maturing.

I usually get those emotions after something has happened. While I haven't been in any fights in a few years I have had a car crash and nearly fallen out of a window and thanks to practising breathing techniques (which I'm sure you have covered before) I can keep calm and think about what I'm doing. But then when I know I'm safe I feel sick, I get the tunnel vision and I start to shake.

No point as long as it isn't reducing your speed or flexibility if you can move just as well with it on i suggest it because you take time to do that and personally if your shirt is coming off when your eyes are covered I'm going to strike you in your chest area while your an easy target.

I think the best way to alleviate a fight is to just not to get into one. Of course that's not always possible, but a fight is just as much psychological as it is physical. Guilt is a strong weapon to use on an opponent and possibly enough to either diffuse the situation or use it as a moment to strike. It's worked for me on both sides. I prefer not to fight if possible but if provoked I can say I'm pretty good at defending myself. I feel it's the same with others. Once that switch is tripped, it's all out war, and in love and war, there are no rules.

I like the hands up at the start of the confrontation, they are in a perfect position for the Muay Thai elbows in all directions to anywhere on the face especially the nose, when you are that close to someone, an elbow is easier and more devastating to throw and has more of a success rate for landing because it has a broader surface area for impact than a fist does. Plus with elbows you don't have as much risk of injury to yourself. I threw a punch at the back of someones head who was running away from me and because of my inaccuracy , ended up with two broken knuckles and a swollen hand. I think my biggest problem is not being able to hold back when I'm approached like that, I usually strike while they are still talking or at least I used to. After sitting in front of a DA and looking at the legal ramifications of those kinds of actions, especially now a days, I kind of think twice now. Still , if backed into a corner with nowhere to retreat, it's on. As long as I don't shove the nose into their skull, I may be justified in protecting myself. It is very easy to do major damage to someone when the elbows star flying toward a nose. Anyway, cool videos, very insightful.

Mine Tyson was even crying before the fights, he turned fear into absolute power. Believe it or not fear is energy and once you get control of it you become very lucid and aware. You might have been in that situation and you don't have to believe to energy and control of it. Fear is not your enemy but you have to learn to use it and accept it. Fear is natural and is the most powerful weapon, used to control the weak minds. The biggest part of the fight in a ring is actually happening in your head . Mike Tyson is a legend and I have immense respect for him. Obviously he was the greatest not only because of his control over fear and his state of mind but it was a very big part of it.

the only way to stay calm sad to say, is to get more experience fighting... with the experience you are able to see things more clearly, react much faster and deal more damage than someone who rarely or never fought before... Its like giving a soldier advice before going into combat for the first few times but once they are in it, its a totally different story. I use to fight a lot as a child to my early adult years. I even seen people who train martial arts fold under the pressure in a street fight because they weren't use to the adrenaline rush.. My first fight I didn't react the way I wanted to resulting in me and my friends getting fucked up. But over time I got much better. Its hard to stay calm when a group of people with weapons are charging at you LOL I trained boxing/ karate/ kickboxing/ judo.. But at the end of the day its better to walk away if you have the chance

I like your video's because you talk about the real-life situations in the street many teachers don't talk much about this subject. I wish more Martial Artists had your attitude; if someone gets into your face he just wants to create fear so you can't respond if he does something like: push, grab, point, hit or intimidate. Most likely he/she wants to hit you because the intimidating person wants to make a show to his friends. Someone who gets into your face wants to create fear is looking for a show and is just looking for an easy target, someone who cant fight back. Prisoners do this when they see new people going into the prison system. The only thing I can say is hit first by, headbutt him in the face, hit in the ear, throat, eyes, nose or bite if you can if hes attacking you before you pass-out if he's attacking you. As soon as the guy puts his hands on you, hit him and if you feel he's going to hit you first, hit him or run! If you ca try to talk your way out of the violent situation.

I think the best deterrent that ever happened midst almost a fight, is my mom telling three drunk dudes they really don’t want this, and warning them that they really don’t know what they’re getting themselves into, I myself if I heard that, would indeed run, which they did. They got stale faced and left, but ended up calling the cops even tho they were the drunk attackers😂

Ive been learning as much hung gar as I can because I learned that it's for standing ground even though so far in my whole life I haven't fought anyone but now that I learned a move in hung gar I like to take a couple steps back quickly and get into position I make sure my legs are planted where I won't fall over, left hand in a fist facing up, other arm across my chest so I can block and if I need to, punch with the fist straight out and the arm across my chest will have my hand on my other upper arm, open and top of fingers facing the sky, and across my chest in a slash and a punch straight from my left lung, boom the assailant is on their ass. Also make sure you have them close as you need because you have to push through them to get them on the ground
