DO NOT give the treat to other person or eat it, then he will know " Jambo " is a direct word for something tasty and good. repeat repeat and repeat, after a time go without a treat and say " Jambo " he will look at you. Mission succeded

Hi there, Sweetheart Gaming! With enough consistency and some good timing (mentioned in the video), your pup can quickly learn that hearing their name is a really valuable thing! The key is to be consistent though. So try not to use his name unless you're working on training it. You can use less formal words, "here pup" or "pup pup" until he starts to have a reliable response to the name that you give him! Happy Training! ~Ken

@McCannDogs5 жыл бұрын
The great part is you can use a few😉 All of our own dogs have their normal names, and every one has at least 2 short-form variations. Through repetition and consistency they can respond to all of them. For example, our Toy Poodle, Hippy Shake is called “Shakey”, “Shaker”, “Shakin’ Bacon” and “Tiny Terror” and she responds to all of them! 😆 I’m sure you’ll come up with the perfect name soon. I have found that whatever the name you end up with is, you’ll feel like it’s the perfect name in a very short amount of time! Have fun with the process. Happy Training! ~Ken

@McCannDogs6 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Marty! It's important to train this exercise, without testing it. So you can work on getting that 100% reliable response to name, whether your pup is in a distracting environment or not. I would use something informal like "here" or another word, if you aren't sure what kind of response you'll get. By doing this, you can work on building successful repetitions by using the methods in this video! Hope this helps! ~Ken

Quick question, how long should each step take? Should I slowly stretch it out and do maybe one step a day, or should i do the entire cycle in one day and repeat the cycle everyday?
@McCannDogs5 жыл бұрын
Such a good question, Roman! Your progressions have nothing to do with the amount of time spent. It has everything to do with your puppy’s level of understanding. Once you feel like your puppy is “getting it” consistently, then move to the next progression. Some puppies may take a couple of days with a couple of sessions per day. Others may take a week with the same amount of daily training. It’s all about your puppy! Happy Training ~Ken
@roman-2705 жыл бұрын
McCann Dog Training Thanks for the quick response! Another question, is it better if I focus on one thing to train at a time, or should I mix training? (For example, first I spend 10 minutes teaching my puppy it’s name, then 10 minutes of potty training, etc)
@McCannDogs5 жыл бұрын
Another good question, Roman! That's a good strategy. It will keep things fun and will keep your puppy motivated to learn. And that is the ultimate goal. Specifically, with potty training, that's something that will present natural training opportunities throughout the day. You'll always be working on potty training with your supervision, and good management and great information. Having a reasonable schedule for your puppy and following the best practices will help on the potty training front. Here's a link to a potty training playlist that you'll find helpful: kzbin.info/aero/PL7BBgLulherkDs-Zi5TTSxcJq8QCHMLRj Thanks for watching! ~Ken

How do you eventually differentiate name from recall? My dog gets so excited about his name that we no longer use it around him unless it’s for recall. He has excellent recall though but I’d love to devalue his name a little bit so that I can use it without him expecting something amazing from me each time. At the same time, I don’t want to devalue his recall.
@Jackie-nt6tq3 жыл бұрын
The way I trained the name was not as a recall (like in this video, where the dog is trained to come to you when you call their name). I trained it as the same as “look at me,” meaning give me your attention. Now when I say my dog’s name he looks at me, and I follow with any other command necessary.
