You know, I'm glad y'all actually gave it a shot. You've gone further than most people ever have to make your dreams come true. Ever since I got my hands on a copy of Mechwarrior 3 when I was 11 years old, I've been a huge fan of mechs and giant robots. I'm greatly appreciative of your efforts. You need to know that, despite your failure, you will still go down in history as the people behind America's first functional giant robot and robot duel. Though you didn't get very far, plenty of the world's greatest inventions were carried forward not on the backs of the original inventors, but by the people who were inspired by the original inventors' willingness to risk failure and losing it all just to bring a dream to life. In turn, those people will take those ideas and fulfill them in a different, more improved fashion, finding a way to bring that dream forward. You might not be the ones to carry giant robot battles to the mainstream, but you will be an unforgettable staple to those who will. Thank you for all that you have done. God bless you

I definitely want to build my own giant robot (12ft-ish) in the future, I just want to say thank you for all this valuable info. I plan on keeping full ownership to avoid ever losing it by excluding external investment, at the cost of taking much longer to build it, maybe over a decade or more. BTW, have you guys seen GUNDAM GLOBAL CHALLENGE? 18 friggin' meters, I don't know how the hell are they gonna make that thing move at appreciable speed.

@@GoGunCo Starting my own business unrelated to giant robots and hope I can make enough coin to self-fund it. This will probably be a solo project for the most part, hence why I say it could take over a decade. I know it sounds crazy, but I wanna give it a shot. I'm a physicist who can code, weld, design circuits, and currently learning machining, so I think I can get the ball rolling. Not sure if I would want to use it for competitive fighting, thought. Maybe that might change as I move forward, we'll see.

I'm not a risk taker so i would start my bots small and make them bigger as the income increases. Sometimes it can turn out fine to take a loan and start big (like many companies have )but those companies had a lot of experience. I don't have any experience and the ceo of megabots had little experience (as he explained) so , in my opinion, it would have been better to start with a smaller cheaper more reliable bot and grow from there. Overall he took a chance he did the best he could but most businesses fail and his was one of them.👍 I applaud your efforts, 👏

I like the idea of making the mechs smaller. Make it more like an exoskeleton (think Ripley in Aliens, just with more protection). It would lower the cost, make them more nimble and possibly safer for the audience. Once the money starts to roll in, make them bigger.

Hey, shot in the dark, but I got a few ideas that you guys may or may not like: -Considering the Eagle Prime vs Kuratas was hyped up, it would be REALLY cool if you guys tried to approach Banpresto/Bandai to get Eagle Prime added to their Super Robot Wars series. It could be a way to get more eyeballs towards your brand. You may need another step of developing some sort of animated work of a story around Eagle Prime, but not sure. I'm hoping you guys have some sort of contact with the guys who made Kuratas. -If you ever build giant robots for another fight, have you considered making them drones, but with a cockpit-style control system? The idea is that you can make the fights more brutal and dangerous, which is something that was restricting your fights, but still allow videos that look like the pilot is within the mecha. Think something like how Gundam Build Fighters portrayed its fights. This may also affect the design for the better, since you won't need any sort of pilot safety features or even a traditional style cockpit. I know I'm just speaking into the void here, but your dream is the same as mine and I really hope that you can have some sort of turning point to bring it all back with the lessons you've learned to greatly improve everything.

The difference between science and just screwing around is writing stuff down! I truly hope you or someone takes the information that you have given and moves forward with giant robots. Don't think of this as a failure, this was just a beta test! Seriously, think of what you accomplished. You were able to work with outside sources to build code to run a giant robot, and you gained knowledge in hydraulics that you may not have had before. Take these lessons and apply them to your next project. Nothing is truly lost when knowledge is gained.

Thanks for the transparency! It's unexpected, but interesting to see. I know the whole deal was built on big, giant robots. But it's kind of hard to imagine it working out long-term as a combat scene without many other groups/companies stepping up and building their own $2million robots as well. It might make sense coming down from a larger company that has cash to burn, or in a world where people can more cheaply and easily build giant robots in their backyard and the "pros" in the scene want to test their metal (and mettle). With even toy robot companies going under, it's tough all around. So to me, I think it'd make more sense starting with something robotics-wise that people want and would work commercially (toy robots, Boston Dynamics competitor, production line robotics, etc.) and use that more stable money flow to continue the "entertainment" arm that features big robots with big robot fights. And that entertainment part could feed people into the stable robotics cashflow part. And along those lines, build some big robots that rich people could buy and safely pilot. I don't know anything about the robotics industry, but I know I kind of expected MegaBots to not go far from the start. I contributed to the Kickstarter anyways, along with my dad, for the cool shirt and the promise of a robot battle with a Japanese robot (which looked very polished in their own respect). And I must say, I got what I paid for! So thanks all the fun! Someday, when Googlebotics decides to make a KZbin series about their giant robot going at it with Elon's BFG Robots, Inc., I'll remember that MegaBots did it first!

Thank you for the transparency, that was a great education for the smooth brains who want to screech from their ignorant digital perch. No worries about supposed poor management of some of those funds. It’s impossible to make every decision with the clarity of hindsight. When in the thick of the day to day operations you were most likely making the best choices you were aware of. It’s only in reflection after the completion of the project that those things rise to the surface and are easier to see. (I’ve run two separate companies, and there is always plenty of facepalming at that review stage afterwards)

Thought that has occurred to me: While those figures are really big still, you might be able to pitch your idea to a large robotics or industrial manufacturing company. Catepillar, for instance, does a lot of heavy, industrial manufacturing of large construction and landscaping equipment. They're a multi-billion dollar company, and $9 million for the kind of publicity you can drum up for them is well worth it. Large companies like them frequently sponsor schools, small companies, and groups in competitions or projects. Do a few quick Google searches, find the biggest robotics and industrial companies by revenue, and give them your sales pitch. Having a background in mechanical engineering myself, I would probably pitch an idea for a robot/vehicle for a particular industry or construction niche. Kind of like how Mechwarrior Dark Ages had lumber harvesting robots and agricultural robots. If you come up with something practical that has advantages over current industrial equipment, that might be enough to land you a comfortable career, and give you the chance to create your robotics competition. On the other hand, coming up with an idea that's better somehow than currently existing industrial and construction hardware could prove difficult.

Successful entrepreneurs fail multiple times, the trick is to get back on the horse again, learned from your mistakes and keep trying. Megabots may have failed, but your spirit and you as a person haven't. So put on them big boy pants again, your lucky hair gel and come up with an ever better idea that could potentially spark something amazing. Dont give up in your dreams.
@AKARSONIST
@AKARSONIST 9 ай бұрын
I just recently stumbled upon Megabots. At first I was thought it was an amazing idea. After watching , of course, the US vs Japan video I realized that every "claim" "haters" made was true. It was incredibly overhyped and gimmicky. It was supposed to be Real Steel in real life, that's how it was delivered to consumers i.e. the customers/viewers generating you add revenue. It was not. In short, the lies you essentially told to your viewers via hyperbolizing what you actually were delivering to them is what resulted ultimately in the company's bankruptcy. I do find it funny the company went bankrupt all the while you built a real estate company yourself that is still successful, $10 million dollars in value according to you. You have never spoken about how you went bankrupt, because YOU didn't. The company you used to build yourself that wealth went bankrupt, while you profited at least $10 million dollars to acquire said real estate. The company was failing due to the horrible execution of said "giant robot fighting league." For some reason a "giant robot fighting league" needs a whole robot building warehouse fulling equipped with expensive machinery and technicians instead of a old warehouse turned into the Megabots Fighting arena. That would have saved millions and you simply could have contracted the owners of the several already existing giant robots that were built in someone's back yard with a smaller budget, to fight each other for payment..... just like any other fighting league in the world. Instead you fumbled an amazing idea and company, but still as one of the CEOs of the now bankrupted company, you profited millions and secured your own personal wealth. Mental note taken, create a company with unrealistic overhyping and lie to the consumers and I can profit millions just before filing for bankruptcy after failing to deliver what I promised.

Don't underestimate capitalism. The fact that industrial mechs don't already exist is a PROOF of their impracticality. It's not that "nobody knows how to build them" - it's "nobody saw any point - we have better tools".

@@AttilaAsztalos I understand capitalism, which is why I dont underestimate the power of disruption. trust me, I aint an idealist kid who thinks that "if you just try hard enough you can change the world", or "all it takes is one good idea and you can make it!". but "if it was a good idea then it would already have been done" has ground in economics and business, but not in engineering. especially in the world where technology change radically from a year to year basis is sort of ridiculous. I remember 5 years ago when it was rare to have a hard drive capable of a terabyte, now we have it in our phones for gods sake.

You should try and make a video game called, mega quest where people can not just making their avatars but making their own mechs in the video game, you should probably make a mechanical game controller for players too control their necks inside the video games @MegabotsInc. It is small but might help on the money crisis in the future. Have the game as an adventure kind and have it in the old fashioned way, by old fashioned, I mean like in the computers and game consoles connected to the televisions. Savvy? That way, they can make their own version of their mechs, and if you decided to make a tournament of this video game idea I am giving you, you can choose the winner's mesh design for you two build in the far future.

Probably not going to make giant fighting robots right away. It would be fun to come back to it if I can find a way to make it financially sustainable. Likely the robots will less technically complex if I did it again. I will always to real estate investing on the side just because it's easy/good $. Maybe will make a video about that at some point.

On Mars, giant robots would be way lighter. Pressurized robots should be way better than having spacesuits. Robots will be needed to explore new places, and to build infrastructure. I may suggest to make a proposal to NASA.

that is extremely negative margins, that you greenlighting such expenses without any awareness of the margin of your income. (wasn't you able to see this miles ahead, that no way in hell this would end well- and that you just kept going with such expenses.. your dancing on a fine line of cr-liability as you have a responsibility to at least have an overview and balance it accordingly. Definitely a lot of people laughing all the way to the bank, not last the film crew and the lawyers. You are making content for a relatively small YT channel. some drones and some action cameras, maintained by your own people.. Thx for the transparency.. that is great, and something I respect a lot, and how you handle it in my view when things go sour.(honesty & transparency and just lay it out, so people can relate and don't speculate.) Kudos for trying wild things.

Mecha anime game giant robots some hype. This helped Battletech board game and derivative franchises and products to raise, but mecha anime faded and FASA Corporation (owner of Battletech) was gone after a lawsuit. In 2015 a shy attempt to revamp the franchise took place, and in 2018 a strong revamp of the board game came along by the hands of Topps and Catalyst Game Labs. I think all mecha related companies should ally to revive enthusiasm about mechs entertainment. My two cents. Visual instructions on how to play. kzbin.info/aero/PLB8oFbFw2kCmrg3D_6PuR6mmFZmJAisl2 A fan of the board game will love your robots.

Giant robots are expensive depending on how you build them-sure hydraulics n stuff need infrastructure to work with but as you mention building the mech is but one part: marketing is where it starts to get real XD Just finished my junk mech with the budget of a happy meal by literally just using home improvement store materials (ok I did order a few things from Amazon). Got a few promotional deals lined up just because folks think it is really cool. Suidobashi sound like a bunch of butts :P
