Amazes me how thorough you are. My biggest flaw is trying to rush and get out of there to the next disaster. I've made more mistakes in a week than I've seen you make watching every one of your videos. Keep setting great examples for the young guys.

Thanks Troy, this machine had a couple other people on it before me, I had to figure out what was wrong, I spent all day there the first trip and technically I spent all day there the second time going back because this was located about 2 hours from my area, that's 4 hours total for the day plus labor. There's no benefit to rushing if it causes you to make mistakes, they might not like how long it takes you to be sure you got it but they really don't like it if they have to pay you to go back to do it again a second time.

It always amazes me, But the manufacturers never seem to think about having to service the gear. I don't care what gear it is, Refrigeration, electrical, Mechanical, They just don't seem to think about having To ever get back into it to work on it. And then its the guys out in the field, Who get stuck trying to come up with miracle solutions, When just a little bit of forethought at the factory would have saved everybody a whole bunch of headache!

You made me look, to see why they wanted the Danfoss. Danfoss also a solid core, looks very similar to the Sporlan from the cut away. I've been very stubborn about only using Sporlan, but that changes my mind.

The funny thing is, Manitowoc would send you a special bracing rod with certain compressors, but using 15% you can do a lot, even brass to copper, and copper to steel Also, great video as always man!

Talking good brazing, I can’t wait to hear your reaction, the company I work at, when I started working their 13 years ago, they brazed with propane. YES PROPANE!!!! The flame was about 6” long, the torch tip was probably 3/4” in diameter. After a few months I brought my acetylene setup in. Now everyone has an acetylene setup. We came a long way in 13 years 😂 but still no oxy acetylene

Spoke with tech support on these hot gas valves during harvest long as you have 75 suction and up that let’s you know you have hot gas passing through the valves another way to test is it you have 34 degrees on t3 and t4 which is the sensor going to your txv your valves are working as well

I was told at factory training class that you arnt supposed to use a standard filter drier. When it switch from freeze to harvest the flow could flow backwards in the filter drier and eventually it will break apart or get damaged. A bi- flow filter drier would be a better option if you don’t have a factory filter. But who knows maybe they just want you to buy the filter drier from them.

Manitowoc strongly recommends that when replacing the cool gas valve that you replaced both of them at the same time due to possible contamination the system even though it is a pain in the buttocks it is highly recommended highly highly recommended but it is what it is when it comes down to Customer cost

Hey Guy. We have an ice machine that will not Harvest on its own. We called Manitowoc. They recommended spraying evap with cooking spray to determine whether or not ice was forming behind grid or if there was a plate issue. We put cooking spray and it dumped perfect sheets of ice. Descaled evaporator under heavy solution . No luck. Upon inspection there is definite discoloration on evaporator but no copper color seen. We just gonna replace evaporator or unit at this point. Any advice would be appreciated.
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival 8 ай бұрын
There is other things to make sure of first but without seeing it’s kinda hard. I like to make sure there’s no refrigerant issues, then if that’s not it then it could be the evaporator plate.

I’m not in your trade, but I noticed you were worried about the heat getting to that one part. Why don’t he either design them to be able to withstand the heat, or give you longer tails so the heat from brazing is farther away?

The tail is about the easiest way to reduce the heat

We have some driers where the manufacturer must put some sort of coating on the stubs that prevent the brasing rod to stick and take . I clean the sh*t out of it with sand paper and use silver rod to brase it and it's fine , but the 1st time i had to learn the hard way 😅

I'm considering buying a Manitowoc IYT0450A-161 Indio to replace my Hoshizaki km-201bah because I need a bigger machine. I only use the ice for my soda and food coolers in my hot dog trailer, so the ice is not used in drinks. I'll use approximately 160 pounds to 210 pounds a day, depending on the weather. Would you reccomend doing a chemical cleaning twice a year and a take apart cleaning once a year for what I use it for? It'll be in my basement, where it's always cool. My Hoshizaki is in the garage so the melted ice goes directly outside with a pipe, but where I'm putting the new one, I'll have to put in a drain pump. The garage also gets hotter during the summer. Would you reccomend a Hoshizaki that's equivalent to the Manitowoc or is the Manitowoc good enough?
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival 8 ай бұрын
The number one thing that takes these ice machines down is not being cleaned. That being said one of the things that really hurts them is being an environment that has a lot of yeast from breads, and that causes a breeding ground for the nasty crap that grows in there, but if you're not gonna have this around the food, then it won't get as bad as quick, my feeling is if you clean it lightly more often it doesn't take as much effort to keep it clean versus waiting till it's built up with a lot of gunk and then scrub the living snot out of it. Both machines are great machines. We sell Manitowoc and I've service plenty of Hoshis. I've had some problems diagnosing the Hoshis, but I have been through their class and they're very well-built machine. They do seem to be more resilient to problems. However they are more money and that's why we sell more Manitowoc. Personally, if you don't wanna invest a lotta money get the manitowoc they work just fine. We lease them for 5 years and dont have that many problems.

@@HVACRSurvival Thanks for responding! It would be kept in my basement, that not humid, nor hot and isn't around any food. Thanks for the advice and they seem relatively easy to clean. The usage won't be like a restaurant, so twice a year should be okay.
