THIS WAS A HYUNDAI TUCSAN WITH AN A/C COMPRESSOR THAT WAS NOT BEING COMMANDED BY THE COMPUTER TO COME ON. AFTER A BIT OF LEARNING AND ONE BAD CALL..OOPS.. I FIGURED IT OUT. AN 18 DOLLAR PART THAT TOOK PROBABLY 7 HOURS TO REPLACE.

I had a similar problem on a 2006 Tucson with automatic air. After conferring with a Hyundai tech I was convinced it was the thermistor like yours. I declined the job because it was more than I wanted to get involved with. My customer, a used car dealer, took it to one of his other guys and he found low coolant in the radiator(no warning light or codes) When he filled it, the A/C started working.
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+eldoradony probably an intermittent problem. And it will return. But u will never know cause car is sold.. Ha. I'll have to remember that just in case. U never know ,since the ecm is actually the final control thru the relay

As usual your videos r great. No surrender no retreat. Would b tempted thrill a hole in the evap box and stuff that thing in there. Please start filming again. U and Nick can give us more knowledge. Plus the entertainment factor.

wow quite a job for an 18 dollar part. i thoight doing my heater core on my 99 dodge ram was a pain. lol. thanks for the vid. its been a while and we really enjoy them. hopefully u and your bro get together soon for another one. i just caught up on that lift kit series you guys did on his truck. very entertaining and informative as well. have a good day.

+Dylan Kinch I did my 01 ram heater core years back and didn't do the evap. Now my air don't work .. my windows stay down. Hate working on my own stuff
@dylankinch27358 жыл бұрын
Im in the same boat lol. I should have did the evap when i had it apart as well. I now have no air either. Im no a mechanic just a diy type of guy that got sick of paying people to work on my stuff so now i do everything myself for the last tfour years. I learn a ton from people like yourslef on youtube. What u do for us is priceless and its much appreciated. Just pivked up a 2012 sonata with the gdi motor. Im trying to learn the sytem so if u have an opportunity to to any vids on gdi sytems that be great. There really isnt much on you tube about them yet. Your bro did one on a buick but thats about all i could find. Anyways have a good day and thanks again

thank you, good job. I did a similar job on 2011 hyundai sonata 2.4 L early in this year to change a leaky evaporator it took 4hrs and i removed the whole dashboard out side the car. in old cars thermal switch was (on/off) that last for a lifetime while in newer models its a variable resistor that fail after few kilometers.

Brother....I don't work this way... but I was thinking a small square access Hole In The Box, replace the sensor and then seal up the box... I would never do that because that's the hack way... But it did cross my mind!
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+Samuel Bane believe me. I thought of it too. But it was on the firewall side and there were mode motors on the sides and the heater core was closer to the passengers. I don't even know if a true hack could have drilled thru the firewall. . Ha.. and if I tried to relocate it ,say, to a spot I could drill a hole or flex something I didn't want to be responsible if the new compressor blew up It was what it was.

Great vid and fix Danner. When you start looking at wiring diagram how do you make sure you have the correct one? How often do you get wrong diagrams or wire colors that don't match the actual vehicle wiring?

I had to tear the dash out of my Durango last summer for a 0 dollar fix. The vent mode door got hung up and I wasn't getting any airflow on the floor or defrost. Usually if I'm taking a dash and HVAC box out, even if its for an 18 dollar part, I will put an evaporator and a heater core in it, just to restart the lifespan of those components, and decrease the chances that I'd have to pull the dash again.
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+Mikey I'm with u. But I can only do what's agreed to
@Mikeywil00038 жыл бұрын
That's true. unfortunately most customers don't want to spring the extra money for the heater core and evaporator, since they would already be paying 7 hours labor. I think even from the customers perspective, it's a bad idea to not change them, because for all we know, they would have to do another 7 hours labor to do the evaporator next season. I wish they would design these cars so you can access those components. It looks like on that Hyundai, you have to pull the dash to repair any part of the HVAC box.
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+Mikey I know. Nothing like a Honda evaporator that's 2 hrs . Comes thru the glove box opening

Nice video. I was wondering if you offered the customer the opportunity to change out the evaporator while you were there since the labor cost would be the biggest part of the job (and notate on the repair order so if the evaporator goes out sometime later they don't comeback and wtf)?
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+johnwrench4speed I think they talked about it in the office, but they didn't get me one . Guessing with the compressor and stuff done at the other shop , then shipped to me, he wasn't gonna bite on any more upsales

Hi sir. I have my hyundai tucson 2016 ac compressor not engaging..i disconnect the connector wire of compressor icheck its give 3.2 volts. What exactly volts do have to suply the solenoid valve to engage the compressor?

@garysmith97728 жыл бұрын
I believe Hyundai has a retro-fit kit that you just drill a 3/4" hole thru the plastic housing and shove the sensor into the evap coil and connect the harness. takes about ten minutes. Dealers don't share this with the outside world. LOL>
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+gary smith that's enough to make me a little mad... Ha

James you should come up with your own kit and market it yourself just got to figure out a way to get access to that Coil without Pulling the dash apart

Is there not a a/c pressure and evap temp data pid? ether oem or global?
@jamesdanner78508 жыл бұрын
+Turbotomass not with this manual system. All there was linking to ecm was the a/c switch input and the 12 v signal thru the pressure switch. So if those 2 wires showed 12 volts, the computer grounded the a/c relay

+John Bullshitt is there any way to cheat that job ...correctly? Ha
@johnbullshitt80458 жыл бұрын
James Danner never have had to do one on a Hyundai Tucson.. Knock on wood right aha but on Kia vehicles you can pull the vent hose on the airbox and change it in literally 2 minutes
@easttnrickmc7 жыл бұрын
James Danner not a great "cheat" but you can pry the box apart from psngr side and slide hand in and install thermistor by feel it may not be in center but it'll work leave old one in there snip the wire not great but saves hours and hours
