I worked as a software engineer for a credit card processing company - at one stage our records showed an over-million dollar discrepancy between our numbers and the bank's numbers (we were shorted 1.2 million or so). The bank couldn't find the money in their records after looking, but gave us the money based on the records we provided them - I talked to someone from the bank and he said this was absolutely normal and that the computer systems used by the bank loses millions on a regular basis because they are old and shit and arcane and nobody understands lots of the hand-tuned machine code, with old code paths for laws/regulations/etc that are long gone kick in some times and randomise shit. It's all held together by sticky tale, hopes and dreams...
@Cal944 жыл бұрын
@@xsjado_anon OMFG YESSSS lolol its twofold sometimes. The software's ancient as hell. And then some genius 10+ years ago wrote some amazing macro for excel 20+ versions old, which finally bites the dust from corruption or incompatibility with the latest version of excel/windows, and the old sods running the macro no longer remember what exactly said macro does or how it functions... I had a set of MS Access macros, that one day spit out a report of over 250 mil in value to be fx'd, for a procedure that's usually only ever a few hundred thousand max. When we questioned it, all anyone could say was that we were all getting the same numbers... So we sat on it a day, got approvals from everyone under the sun, and it was the traders who put their foot down and said they're not putting their ass on the line to book and potentially lose the firm that much cash. Few hours after that, it turned out the funds were correctly shown on our report, but the vast majority had also already been converted, and we couldve cost the firm millions in losses duping it.... But hey, crisis averted. Except no one would confirm how much we actually still needed to convert. Left that bit up to us to determine. Too many fingers in the pie, sometimes. Too much turnover. No one knows who does what, who to talk to.
@Aaron369834 жыл бұрын
@@Cal94 you'd be surprised about the efforts they make to keep archaic versions and software compatible. The newest version of excel still incorectly handles year 1900 as a leap year to ensure that old scripts still work. I mean its crazy to think that every new version of these softwares is just another fresh coat of paint originating back to the earliest version...but we still have these compatability issues nonetheless.
@xsjado_anon4 жыл бұрын
@@Aaron36983 yeah, there are known errata in 86 processors that we fixed, but operating system code that puts the bugs back on purpose because fixes were put in place that would break on CPUs without the bug. Hilarious. Modern programming is so abstracted that none of this shit even matters anyhow - I used to be an elitist C programmer that prided myself on my performance and memory management, now I'm a C#/.net core developer who's code runs on abstracted machine farms that I have no control over beyond knowing the entry point they use... and I get 20x the work done in the same period of time, with around 1/10 of the issues and 1/1000 of the super hard to find crazy low-level issues that cause 1/1000000000 calls to fail catastrophically and are impossible to reliably reproduce.

Travarish: $9000, this is the most expensive part I ever bought. Murcielago's rear bumper: Am I a joke to you? (crying in carbon-fiber)

Jared is a great camera man. “Open up that part, right there” and physically points to it 😂

Quite cool seeing the formaplex logo in the container, my step dad worked for them for a few years up until the beginning of this year.

Love it Tavarish, you're the only guy that will tackle the toughest projects/rebuilds! Loved your FF Lambo, and this McClaren is definitely awesome as well! Well done!

The journey from the beginning of this rebuild to now is incredible. So glad I've been able to witness this rebuild and everything that has gone into it. And can't wait to see the day your driving it down the road lol

@@alwaysinverted1224 don't forget the brand new pick up in the background of the frame shop video and all the exotic projects. Mr Tavarish does okay. But to be fair, internet shows are like tv, and all about personality / entertainment. As much as I hate when he complains about money, he's deserving of what he's grown into.

I enjoyed the trek so much and I don't think I'm alone, you should do it yearly. Maybe bring others in. Could create a whole new rally.

Gosh dammit that would piss me off about the roof. I could tell when you pulled it out it was carbon fiber and I’m like wtf why did they package it that way. Plus caught on tape is the delivery guy shaking it around instead of turning it probably didn’t help having carbon fiber mixed with metal

I've worked at many warehouses, and a box of that size/weight doesn't even need to be done like that in the slightest... Pull out the forks, Wiggle the box onto the lift, pull it off, and then bring the jack down...
