@michaelhubert11532 ай бұрын
@@Mufc479 I agree that it would be brutal for Anna to hear from her mother that she might not have the capacity to become a GM, or that it would be impossible for her if she follows her current trajectory. And at the same time, it would be so tempting for Pia to say "yes Anna, you can absolutely become a GM". The fact that Pia doesn't go in that direction shows how great a mother she actually is. I think the real message here from Pia is not about Anna's capacity of becoming a GM, it's more about the pertinence of her following that path. Pia and Juan did this ground-breaking thing of becoming chess GMs, it was their "karmic" path in life that probably took all their mental space and willpower to accomplish and they passed the passion for the game to their daughter. Anna is probably one of the few persons who embodies a new form of "aristocracy" where chess would be the main language. She has this natural way of speaking about chess that comes from deep roots engrained in her personnality from learning the game at such a young age. It can be at the same time a blessing or a curse. A curse because what a burden for a child to accomplish themselves in a field where their parents went already so high with the risk of underachievement. A blessing because being born with such parents means that chess is Anna's first language and what a better person to be an undisputed ambassador for the game. Pia knows what it takes to become a GM and what it means in terms of sacrifice and self-discipline to reach that level and she knows Anna should follow this path if, and only if, she decides it's a life goal of hers and not because as the daughter of 2 GMs, she has to prove to the world that she can become a GM to have some legitimacy. It reminds me of what Djokovic said to his children after winning the gold medal : he wishes for his kids to follow their own paths and dreams, and if he will be glad if they don't follow his path but find their own, because he knows how hard it was for him to go through what he's been through and as a parent, you wish for your kids to be happy. I personally think that Anna's karmic path is the one she's following at the present. Of course she should compete in chess and try to become the best chess player she can be and who knows how high she can get. But her most important contribution to the chess world is already happening right now through this channel : Anna taking us with her on her journey, in competitions, doing educational videos on chess, and putting her refreshing personnality and sense of communication at the service of the game and pushing the popularity further and beyond through the heritage she got from her parents and her particular position to be such an ambassador.
@Mufc4792 ай бұрын
@@michaelhubert1153 I agree.. The irony is, despite not achieving what her mother and father achieved in life and she probably never will, she is on course to earn a lot more than them, especially through these sponsorship videos. So I guess it would be easy for her mum and dad to be satisfied with what she has already achieved in life without her becoming a GM. Me personally, I'd want my kids to follow my success but this just proves your kids don't need to and they can still become successful

But what kind of life is that? You already have so many great things going for you, your breakdowns, content creation in general, are absolutely Grandmaster of life level. We all enjoy your commentary so much and you have contributed so much to Women's chess. It's about the journey not the titles, and I don't think chess GM grind is a particularly healthy lifestyle. You seem so happy when you are in tournaments and doing analysis for games. The insight you provide for us, especially with your mum and dad gives us a window with a view we could never hope to have without you. I don't know if your happiness could be sustainable on hyper grind because it requires giving up all of that. We would be happy for you of course, if you decided that is your path.
