Story 3: wait so the courts granted OP a restraining order against her legal husband but WON'T grant a divorce?
@pansprayers
@pansprayers 2 жыл бұрын
It was a head pat. I can think of a dozen countries off of the top of my head that divorce is either not legal, or d@mn near impossible for a woman to file in. If he starts babbling about 'mediation', the furniture may as well have a voice, because it's more likely to be heard. Women filing for divorce in a semi-equal environment really is a more modern US/UK concept.

@@Tamara-ju3lh Israel (divorce isn't granted unless the husband consents, and then the rabbi will write up the decree, it's a HUGE issue there), Italy and Poland come directly to mind (it's 3 AM here, brain's a bit fried). Anywhere you see a huge religious influence on the laws/court systems, this is what happens. Divorce isn't even legal in the Philippines (although you can get the equivalent of an RO year after year, married is literally until death, one way or another). The larger world outside of the US/UK is still very male dominated, thanks to religion.

Story 2: I really want to know why she didn't say anything? Like, she knows about the relationship being open and yet instead of defending her _husband_ she just let's him look like a horrible piece of shit in front of her whole family. "How dare you tell them!? Go sleep on the couch!" It was either he told them or he was labeled a cheater and treated like shit by YOUR family. Honey your family isn't shit in this situation, it's "damned if you do, damned if you don't" with them no matter what, and the fact that you'd rather throw your own husband to the wolves in order to save your own ass from them only to get pissed at him and essentially punish him for clearing the air is disgusting.

While I understand that some people just don’t know what to say or do after a tragic loss, I try to educate individuals who believe that it’s acceptable to compare kids and pets. Now that my co-worker has a child, she would do anything to protect her son. There’s no way she would compare her son to her dog. With that being said, this Karen was out of line. It was obvious that the lady’s pets were her loving companions, especially for a sweet lonely widow. I also believe that the term “fur baby” isn’t an offensive term. I see it as a term of endearment, just like a “pet name”. It’s really about basic common sense, societal interpretations, and context.

Final story - Making the time or effort to show your spouse you love and appreciate them has nothing to do with their "job", and everything to do with how healthy you want your relationship to be. OP still doesn't seem to understand this despite all the YTA votes he received. Additionally, how the hell is it fair that both are "working" from home, but OP gets to relax on weekends, while his wife has to use hers to catch up on extra cleaning on top of her regular duties?
@bigrdmp
@bigrdmp 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, this sounds incredibly like a double standard. She agrees to be the stay at home wife/mom and then expects him to go the extra mile. The dude clarified that he actively says thank you because everyone in the comments were making him look like he was a slave driver. His wife wanted this to be her job. He said "okay. That's fine with me." Now she's burnt out (and I totally get that) and wants him to do more things for her. I highly doubt she is doing 100% of the work at home. I'm sure he has some things that he takes care of, whether it be taking out the trash or whatever. I think he could definitely do more for her but at the same time, is she going to reciprocate? If the roles were reversed, and the guy was staying home while the woman worked, you'd all shut him down and say "she's working hard to provide for this family". Seriously. If you take away gender in this issue, the response really needs to be "both parties need to show more gratitude towards each other" not just for his wife. Sheesh. It's definitely no assholes here. She has the right to feel burnt out and want more appreciation but he said he appreciated what she was doing. Even before the edits, he said he understood how hard she worked too.

@@ShatoraDragondore yup. As much as people complain about US divorces and the family court system (there are obvious flaws, most due to historical imbalances that often saw women tossed into mental institutions at the husband's whim), the basic fact is, all divorce is painful, but it's markedly less traumatic in the US/UK, and at least recognizes both parties as actual human beings. I had to be an active witness/participant in my bio mother's third divorce (she's a piece of work, but he took it to a whole new level of cruelty), and I'm still thankful that we managed to land one of the few judges in that state who wasn't buying his hyper religious hypocritical BS he was using to justify literally breaking the bones in my face on my 12th birthday. Pick some flowers, 'borrow' a rose from a neighbours garden, just use your imagination, or maybe do the dishes once in a while or stack the dishwasher, get a bit of shopping, it sure as hell wouldnt kill you. Its not that hard to pick up a yum(that I what I call something nice) when you pop into a store... or pop into a bakery and bring home pastries and coffee for you both. So many partners are 'you do your job and ill do mine'...how about you do them both together!!!! It's not so cut and dried our roles in a relationship, and being a full time parent never gets turned off where as when your done will your job for the day, your done...your never done with babies at home, its that simple. This situation, theres twins, no wonder shes feels unappreciated. She just wants a little thank you and a candy bar. She's not asking for BMWs and Loubitons. He didn't say how old the kids are, but having babies takes a toll on a woman, she had multiples. He probably doesnt do 💩 and all child rearing falls on her. She's probably sleep deprived and she has to do everything all the time. I'm sure he does nothing to help during the work day. I’d have to disagree only on the grounds that the wife had no idea this was being planned. If you want to expose a cheater and make them feel ashamed and exposed then go for it, but that shouldn’t come at the cost of hurting the victim even more by simultaneously surprising them with something so emotionally devastating in front of the whole family; it’s so insensitive and comes across as some holier than thou reveal instead of trying to help them out of a poor situation. If they genuinely cared about their daughter then they should have spoken to her first about this and acted as support instead of springing it on both of them.

It's going to still require a lot of time and money, even at a reduced rate for her to get rid of him. The restraining order was a head pat, given to her by the criminal court, not the civil court where family law/divorces are heard, and many places separate the two to one extreme of the order not being even allowed in as testimony. Most people's idea of divorce here is going to be a very late 70's - early '80's US/UK centric one, and that's simply not the case in a large part of the world. Divorce is literally 'til death do us part' in the Philippines, Israel requires the husband grant a writ of divorce be written by a rabbi, Poland makes it almost impossible, and large chunks of Asia, S America, Africa, the Middle East, and a few ultra religious parts of Europe say it's *possible* - but not without a lot of heartache, money, pain, and time. LAST STORY: *YTA* When women say we would like gestures to show that we are appreciated, why is it so hard for men to understand that we really do want the small things. •A bar of our favorite chocolate. •A cup of our favorite coffee. •If we are bookworms a new book from the book exchange that literally cost you $1.50 (at least the one in my area. I see so many women just walking out with CRATES of books because they are so cheap lol.) •Say thank you when you catch us doing stuff around the house or we do small things for you like make your lunch for work or prep your all time favorite meal for dinner when you come home from work. •Do a couple chores every once in a while or take the kids out so we could have some “me time” •Even give us a hug out of nowhere! The way op snapped at his wife made it out to be she expected a one man show award ceremony just for her….. Wives/girlfriends really do not ask for much when it comes to wanting to feel appreciated. Doing the bare minimum like saying thank you or surprising us with our favorite treat really goes a long way. It’s not that hard to go that extra mile to show someone you appreciate/love them. If you’re leaving the house and places to buy our favorite candy or favorite thing is on the way of your destination, what’s the harm in stopping for five minutes to pick that up? Like seriously if you’re on your way home depot pick me up a vanilla latte as a little surprise. The TV may make it seem like when we want the small things usually translates to get us a big ass diamond ring with a matching big ass diamond pendant, you’ll be surprised how many women don’t give a rats ass about jewelry. We have such a low bar for what makes us feel appreciated and acting like that’s too much of a feat makes us feel like we are not worth it.

He signed up for deceiving her family from the start and since they didn’t know about their “open” marriage they were calling him out on the spot so he couldn’t make up a lie. Personally don’t see the point of marriage here if you’re just going to be with a several other people and child free may not be an option if something happens. It’s not even a committed poly relationship here.

Story 2 is my worst nightmare as a person in a secretly open relationship. Bf's family is otherwise pretty liberal, but the one thing they're traditional about is monogamy. I've gotten lots of rants from his mom about how she doesn't understand this new culture of just "seeing" people because if you're with someone you should be exclusive from the get-go. One time she lectured my bf because he had to neet up with a female lab partner. Another time she saw my bf get a (completely platonic) text from a woman's name and she said "Does (me) know you're texting other women? Is she okay with it?" as if I would be against him even having female friends. Little does she know... I did once get caught with another man by my brother and a mutual friend of ours because I stupidly took him to a bar that my brother also frequents. We lied that he was work colleague but...we were sitting next to each other and not across from each other, and moments before they approached us he had his arm around me and I had also been kissing him earlier. After the incident, my brother told me that both he and our friend think my "work colleague" seems like he's really into me. He also said that the guy is attractive and he's surprised I could "pull" such a guy, and started joking about how I should date him...To this day I wonder if my brother saw and just isn't saying anything for my sake, but I'd like to think he knows I'm not a cheater. Obviously if my family caught my bf with another girl I would not hesitate to admit we're in an open relationship, and I have no doubt he would do the same for me. Rebecca is massively selfish. "Sleep on the couch because you didn't sacrifice your reputation so I could look innocent".

If you feel like you have to keep your lifestyle a secret from people then you have bigger issues than you realize. If OP and his wife were truly OK with an open relationship then they should go to therapy to find a way to be truthful to their families about it.

Story 3: My gosh, this story still angers me no matter how many times I heard it. OP, this is not your fault, and your only mistake was not pursuing this matter any further, cause this is the reason why your ex thinks he can stomp all over your boundaries (hence the RO), and even think he is entitled to child support money for a child that was NOT yours to begin with. He f**ked around, and well, him and his mistress lost their jobs, and if those flying monkeys still give you crap about it, block them all. Not your circus, not your flying monkeys, since you literally did nothing at all.

Considering story 1 is in the States, Karen's actions can be brought before the EEOC if HR doesn't do their job (and let them know you are fully prepared to do so). Such treatment of a senior citizen in the workplace is abhorrent. If your mg and HR won't take action, the EEOC will Happily investigate the whole department. Justice Served.

S4 OP's job has a start and an end date; he's On the Job from 7a - 5p, and _has days off._ Wife works much longer in an environment she cannot escape and never gets a _single_ day off ever, and OP expects her to be thankful for it. They don't even have a familial support system so she can have a Grandparents Have the Kids day to recharge. Commenters talk about OP going the extra mile, but some basic acknowledgement isn't even a mile. It's a *foot.* And depending on the actions that accompany the words, the words of affirmation themselves might ring hollow. I'm kinda glad OP got the Reddit Riot.

Story 3: overwhelmingly NTA. I know the commenter is joking at 19:20 but this situation happens a lot (very legally) with the genders swapped through paternity fraud (scandalous that's it's not criminalized).

It happens MORE in a large part of the world outside of the US/UK, and used to look just like this until the mid-70's there. Let's not pretend that women getting a fair shake ISN'T a very new concept in history, because that would be a bald lie.

1st : This cannot be in the US because saying an F word isn't grounds for firing and you would win if that is why they fired you and NOTHING happened to the woman that said that horrible comment.. Neither would get fired, written up and then thrown out after 90 days and talking to.. The open marriage thing, easy fix.. I have been pursuing acting and we were going through the script and then his wife could say, yes, I know what he's doing, it's acting... What freaking country would have you pay for the AP child?! Wtf?!

Story 1: This is how you know it's in America with the whole "eff the employee" thing. You can't do that in the UK. The legal repercussions would be catastrophic for the company in fines and compensation to say the least. The standards are not the companies to butcher in a lot of other countries.
