Here's a cool idea to the problem at 3:40 - have the desktop "slide down" a bit enough to show the search results when you start typing, and make it "slide up" again if you clear the search field. Don't forget to make the search results "fade in" and out at the same time when the desktop slides down or back up. Keep the fluidity levels up! :D

This is cool! I've been playing with KDE a little (I'm a long time gnome user), and the big thing I felt was lacking on the KDE side was the way the gnome overview is "unified", e.g. the overview search is effectively an application launcher. I really like this feature. The current solution is just horribly implemented and there is absolutely no way to turn off the touchpad gesture or remap it to something else. Will it have an option to disable hiding the taskbar? I only have one monitor, I'm afraid. Would you be up to donating me a second monitor?
@psamaras Жыл бұрын
@@niccoloveslinux That's a petty answer, IMHO. A TV, or a cheap monitor, is your choice to make. Well, if GUI development is not including MULTIPLE MONITORS and ACTIVITIES, how well would this development suite to a DE project? Rhetorical question, I guess... Nevertheless, IMHO, you should first make some design decisions, like replacing workspaces with ACTIVITIES, or the opposite, or deprecate Activities. Since you like Gnome design decisions, they use Activities as the name for both a workspace and a monitor.
@glidersuzuki5572 Жыл бұрын
@@psamaras how is that a petty answer? The devs need support too. It's easy to just keep demanding features without putting in any effort.
@psamaras Жыл бұрын
@@glidersuzuki5572 Nobody can demand anything from an Open Source dev. OTOH, Nicco suggests donations. Then, in some way, he has a (minor) profit. How he will choose to spend that income is absolutely a personal choice. He can choose to buy food. He can choose to buy a microphone for the videos. He can choose to buy a cheap monitor for the most show-stopper bug in Plasma. If he was not accepting donation, there would be no reason to call the answer as "petty". If this is not understandable, I am sorry. I am with Open Source and defending it, using it, promoting it, also creating software.

Hi Nicco, great job with what you're doing. I'd love to see how you do all that. I'm an Armbian member/dev and I also make YT videos about Armbian. Armbian is Ubuntu and Debian based Linux for ARM single board computers. Our problem is that our devs knowledge often is limited to CLI/U-BOOT,/Kernel config... since most hardcore devs never use a desktop. I try to fix small things, but my knowledge doesn't go that far in desktop configuration. Biggest problem we've got is KDE. It is very buggy. This because of an issue between panfrost GPU driver and KDE. I've got no clue how to start fixing it all. We do have Gnome, XFCE4 and cinnamon working well. But I'd love to have KDE in shape too. If you know someone who would be willing to spend some time on this. I can arrange hardware when needed. There is also Armbian for x86, but that doesn't have the panfrost issue. Have a nice day, cheers. NicoD

That's great! Actually, I had the same decision as you did, I'll give Gnome a shot. Every time I wanted to switch back I really missed that one feature (and I'm using it in desktop mode). Using Gnome for a year now. I just find this method of switching windows a lot more comfortable so that "classic" switching by alt+tab or clicking a task bar didn't do anymore. Made me to keep using Gnome actually, every time I switched back to KDE I missed that exact feature. I'll give it a shot once released, that's for sure. Gnome grew on me now over the time for some things just are better implemented (mounting devices in example, I always ended up doing that in fstab in KDE, gnome-disks can do that properly), but I miss KDE features on the other hand (system tray would be one, and that KDE actually handles input a lot better when being in non-fullscreen windowed mode). My choice of desktop is mostly driven by my workflows, and switching back from Gnome to KDE with knowing how "nice and easy" switching between windows can be actually broke my workflow with KDE not having this possibility. And ye, I searched a long time - there is no comparable feature for my work Windows laptop, no tool or anything I could find implements this... drives me crazy. PS: I hope I can configure that one on the meta key... it's my main way of starting apps and switching windows, the way Gnome implemented that is really smart and good.
