The cool piano riff makes more sense when you know the song was written by Randy Newman. All their music is white boy soul-tinged. Three Dog Night was great. Lots of big hits to react to. If you want to feel like you’re back in church, immediately review Joy To The World.

Thanks for that info. All these years and I had no idea that Randy Newman wrote this. Saw Three Dog Night in concert in Las Vegas in 1968/69 at the Ice Palace. This was a skating rink because at that time Vegas had no concert venues.

I heard recently where the name "Three Dog Night" came from. Apparently in colder climates up north it was custom to huddle with a dog to keep warm at night. When it was really cold you took two dogs, and when it was too cold you took three dogs.

It's an old southern U.S. thing, too. You put up with the hounds in the bed -- fleas, stinky doggy breath, and all -- because it was still a darn sight more comfortable than lying there shivering all night! :D

Three Dog Night had some really fun songs with this near the top of that list! They had a bunch of hits that varied from romantic love songs to rockers to truly meaningful that made you think. It does take a bit of a dive to find those variations, but well worth the time! :) I got to hear them live at a company dinner and dance back in the 90's.
