Jews believe in the Bible! They're much better at keeping to its code. Ask a Christian: Do you mix the fabrics; do you eat shellfish; do you eat pork; do you eat dairy products at the same time that you eat meat; have you been circumcised? They will answer yes to all questions but the last. This is because their leaders in antiquity wanted to gain new converts, and keeping to ancient codes did not suit their purposes.

Fun fact: I’m swedish and studying to become a preschool teacher. It’s in our guidelines from the government to offer every child equal opportunities to grow and to be able to play with whatever toys they want, and not discriminate or judge children or their parents based on gender, ethnicity, religion or sexuality. We don’t enforce gender stereotypes and rather want to give every child the opportunity to choose interests for themselves without the societal pressure to conform to traditional gender roles. It’s really a wonderful work environment and I can’t wait to spend my life making sure all children get the same starting point in life. I love this dystopia

As a cis woman who has been accidentally called "sir" or "he" on more than one occasion, I can assure the Girl Defined sisters that it really isn't a big deal. In person, it's happened when I'm wearing bulky clothes or cosplaying Haruka Tenoh, and it's frankly a compliment in the latter situation because Haruka is mistaken for a man in the anime Sailor Moon. It means I've pulled off her ambiguous appearance! More frequently, I get mistaken for a dude in voice chat in video games. I have a voice that apparently causes me to sound like a 13-year-old boy instead of a 27-year-old woman. My sense of humor probably contributes to this assumption. I then sometimes get "accused" of being trans (as if that's a bad thing?), and I tend to respond, "Nah, I'm just an alto. And a lesbian."
@Claudiomartin053 жыл бұрын
Same, as a cis guy with long hair who's very into fashion I've been called "lady" or "miss" a few times and it isn't a big deal at all, women are beautiful so why should I be offended if someone confuses me for a tiny second as one.
@sadrabbit533 жыл бұрын
I was chillin in a women's restroom waiting for my sister to get out, and this little old lady walked in, saw me with my short hair and immense baggy hoodie that hid my hips and chest, and immediately walked backwards out the door to check and see if she entered the right bathroom. He was going on and on about “how far away humanity has come from God”, and “They’re lost”, “They should be a part of our religion”, “They’re going to burn for this”, and so on. Basically implying that we should try to CONVERT atheists to being Christian, and the preacher never once sounded like he even KNEW how toxic and cult-ish he was sounding. And at the end of the service, THEY LITERALLY PRAYED FOR ATHEISTS TO BE CHRISTIAN... I- I just- *sigh*

Oh MY GOSH. The whole Marilyn thing makes me so angry as an avid Marilyn historian. If they had done any research on her life whatsoever they would know that Marilyn was raised by a Christian foster home, those foster parents would take her to church and when young Norma Jeane would try to confess her "sins" (her "sins" being the sexual abuse she had, I put sins in quotes because those were not actually her sins, they were her abusers' sins) they would discipline her for "telling terrible lies about those nice men". Then, Marilyn got sent to live with her Aunt Ana, a woman Marilyn came to love and admire and who was a deep believer in Christian Science, as was her mother Gladys, but it wasn't right for Norma. Then when she did "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", her costar Jane Russell tried to get Marilyn back into Christianity, but Marilyn politely declined, probably cause her experiences with Christianity caused her great pain. Later in life she married Arthur Miller and converted to Judaism, which she practised somewhat for the rest of her life, even after her divorce from Miller. Christianity caused deep pain for Marilyn and I doubt that if she would have "found Jesus" it would have made her life much better. There's so much more to the effects of Christianity on Marilyn's life, but it's too much to leave in the comments

Hannah Tuttle what if it's penis envy , why are they trying so hard to be women when they can just chill and be like " wait i don't need all of this because i was a woman all along, the power is inside of me" but what they really want is to be like a man that orders people around because that's the only type of men they grew around and have reference of and they think this sort of thing will fill that hole in their lifes , and they were so close to a breaktrough but somehow they twisted it into making a book out of their frustrations that instead of giving a closure out of their situations and show that they learned something, it regurgitates everything they were presented to as kids henceforth preserving their cultist behaviour to future generations, instead of fixing the problem they right up " hey this is what we learned ,this is all we can do, so if we can't do it nobody can then and this is the whole truth, we are too lazy to question anything and you are evil for doubting us". Having the resources of writting a book and wasting it with hatespeech sure is childish but it's consistent with their brand , consistent like expired milk. I don't think there's hope for them. They behave exactly like incel men, so they got somewhat close to their goal.

I ended up burning out pretty quickly, and several of those teachers show up as recurring cast in my trauma nightmares. (But honestly, this is why I have respect for systems of faith where you can ask your teacher a question and instead of being talked down to, they'd go "that's a very good question, and lots of scholars have wondered the same thing throughout history. Here's where you can find records of their discussions on the topic." Seems like a much healthier relationship.)

sylvia plath, beloved poet, wife, and mother of two, took her own life at the age of 30 by putting her head in the oven at 4:30am. she was not a sex icon. she was not a model. no made-up face, no perfect body. she did not check off much of society's list. she lived up to a good amount of the christian list. she still killed herself. she had severe depression. the amount of expectations you live up to don't often affect your mental health.

I've stanned Marilyn since I was 10, and it made me really angry that they used her in thier dumb God book. Being Christian wouldn't have fixed Marilyn, she needed medical help that no one encouraged her to get. She was actually in a medical asylum for a bit but Joe DiMaggio forced them to let her out because she was so mistreated there. She wasn't really a Christan herself and I think she would have been upset at having been used in the book. In her exact words, "A sex icon is a thing, and I hate to be a thing." Fundamentally she disagreed with sexist ideals but was never able to break free of them like Audrey Hepburn did, for example. She never would have wanted young girls to be learning the lessons girl defined teaches, because at the end of the day she hated the sexist cage she was trapped in. I hate them. They don't even know anything about her. They didn't even do thier research. They don't know what mental illness is and why God couldn't have saved Marilyn. I think it would have broken Marilyn's heart to be used as an example in this.

Not to mention marylin was a CELEBRITY with limited privacy, and all the hateful things that people think being thrown about, and at a time when women were very oppressed due to these girl's exact mentality very commonly, and mental help was far lacking for women in particular. So them claiming her suicide was DIRECTLY related to her 'sexual freedom' was not only really ignorant, but very tone deaf to the problems that a lot of celebrities (even clean ones- often more so sometimes) face even today.

The whole idea that mental illness is caused by sin isn't uncommon, sadly. It's one of the reasons I was so ashamed about having an anxiety diagnosis for so long, coupled with experiencing harsh stigmatized comments that I was pretty much being dramatic/lazy/weak. Telling someone chemical imbalances are their fault won't correct the imbalances.

@@jittercritter More than that, there's the idea that everything is inherently corrupted and evil, which is somewhat ironic for what is described by its believers as a "religion of hope". For the father's day sermon, our pastor went on a weird tirade about how those verses weren't actually sexist, and that sure women are intrinsically different and inferior to men but that doesn't mean men should abuse women! There was an especially funny part where he said he "consulted woman's issues experts" and it ended up just being his mom and wife. Like he legitimately only knows and respects two women, one of whom literally birthed him. It was the first and only time my family walked out of a sermon, because my father didn't want to put us (my mother and I) through that regressive shit.

I mean I always felt like one of the biggests things that troubled me is that women are oversexualized, treated as sex objects, etc but at the SAME TIME shamed for their sexuality constantly.
@nanahuatli21444 жыл бұрын
We're punished for being women, just because people can get away with it. Like bullying and other types of power plays and oppression, it's not about being female, black, Jewish, transgender or what have you. It's not the thing itself; it's just that if you're outside of any of those groups you get to punish those within, and exerting power on another is too tempting for most people to pass up. The rationalizations come after this fact.
@joshs71604 жыл бұрын
That's because turning the woman into a "sex-object" comes from a place of superiority, it's used as a tool to prop up the male ego, and until society actually respects women equally, they're always going to be shamed for the same reason they're lusted after.
