I have 121,000 miles on my 2.0 with zero issues. Put 37’s on it about 30,000 miles ago and I have barely any power loss and I have owned jeeps for the last 30 years. The power is great and when it was stock, we aeraged 21mpg on a trip to Co. The power it has at high elevation is incredible, Mtn Passes that our JK with the 3.6 would struggle to maintain hwy speed on, the 2l went up with very little effort and i rarely shifted down any further than 7 on any hill.. I agree that how well it will hold up over the long haul is a big question mark, but hopefully it will do well.

In the Alfas, this engine is awesome! The Alfas had a thing with cracking radiators for the first couple years but overall that was one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. The engine can only rev safely to about 5500 rpm but has a super wide power band with that 8 speed auto. The Stelvio is comparable weight to the Jeeps so I can imagine it does keep that same pep.

I love 4 cylinder turbo motors, had a few from Audi, they were great motors and had lots of power with good fuel mileage. I bought a 2022 JT, I wish the 2.0L would have been available for it. I didnt buy the truck to tow, I bought it for the storage space in the bed. The main thing I like about turbo engines, you can get a lot of power from them by adjusting boost to the turbo. I had a 1.8L turbo 20 valve Audi, stock it was 170 hp, after I added an ECU program and a few other bolt on mods, I was getting 320HP from it. I am sure a company will come out with a tune for this one soon.

This is definitely an upgrade from the V6. Many people have already gone over 200k miles with no issues. Hopefully the next 4Runner will have a turbo engine since the V6 is anemic above 5000 feet. Keep in mind the V6 has more moving parts with more chance of something breaking. You have twice the number of camshafts, more timing chain, 50% more valves, tighter fit with the V6.

Loaner is “bottom of the line” base model. Gladiator is longer wheel base too….better ride. If they “ever” d-bug the E-Drive system, it would be a good option. I would not do anything below a Safari to ensure better build quality. If you yanked the carpet and added insulation you could soften some of the road noise. And add a Best Top Hard top to achieve a quieter overall commute. With that said…just buy what you want up front. Even if you need a second job to pay for it. As you said, these things last 200k plus. Buy what you “want” and keep it! Nice review of a borrowed Wrangler. Well done.

11:03 So two things to say here: This is a Sport model, the lowest end model. The tires wheels and suspension are way different than the Rubicon. I'm not sure which Gladiator you have but when I test drove the Gladiator Rubicon and the Wrangler to me they feel exactly the same.. maybe it's just 2019 .. The other thing is you mentioning the 48 volt battery and the generator for the 2.0 turbo... When you go to custom build a Wrangler now, you can't get the straight Pentastar engine with an automatic transmission. If you choose the automatic you have to get the 3.6l eTorque which is just like the 2.0 turbo. I mean it's the 3.6liter pentastar but it deletes the alternator and basically has exactly the same setup as the 2.0 turbo minus the turbo. All that fancy expensive stuff is still there. No straight v6 with alternator unless you wanna go manual transmission.

When I was doing my build, I saved $1,500 by going with the 2.0L turbo for the 2021 Sahara Altitude. Didn’t have to pay any extra money for it. I wanted to originally go with the V6 engine, but it was no longer an option for Tuscadero because they were going to discontinue it. I really wanted the color so I just went with it. I got a call last week from my salesman letting me know that it’s going to be a 2022 instead! Thought I could get the V6 after finding that out, but no luck. I still feel pretty nervous about the engine, but most people have good things to say about it. A guy told me his 2.0L engine is still doing great after 80K. If anything happens to my engine, I have a lifetime power train warranty with my dealership which is great!

I have owned 3 different Audi turbo engines and except for what I mentioned, never had an issue with the engine failing.
