I have a 2021 JLU Rubicon with the 2.0. I have been a Jeep owner since 1987. I have had several motors including V8s. I did months and hundreds of hours of research trying to find actual negative data on the engine. Everything negative I found was opinion without data on what someone "thought" would happen. I even researched the European versions of the engine to try and get longer reliability data. All the data based research I found was all positive for the 2.0 being the best choice. Most of the negative fall back of other Jeep owners (when I bring up the 2.0 specifications) is it will not be as reliable, but again that's all opinions. Time will tell. For now I have had the Jeep a year and love the engine on and off road; even running 37's. Off the line, on the interstate, crawling the rocks, or slinging mud with fast turning tires; for me it was the best choice.

Great research, I also did the same and couldn’t find anything negative on the engine besides like you said opinions or lemon law engines!

Just came across this video, perfect timing. I was so sure I wanted the Rubicon 3.6 since I have the 2018 that I just gifted my daughter. The dealership only had the 2.0 in the Earl color I wanted. This video made my decision very easy as well as reading the comments! Thanks!!!

Yea the 2.0 rips and will maintain 80 on the highway. The 3.6 struggles and is even worse in the mountains.

I have owned mine for over 2 years. If this engine was in a TJ it would be a rocket ship. In my heavy 4 door rubicon hard top with 35s its still fast, able to hold interstates speeds 90+ with no problems. Gas mileage is pretty good. I never imagined a 2.0 with so much USABLE power. Dont know how long its gonna last but runs great and I drove it for over 32 hours straight from coast to coast with zero issues other than stopping to fill up

Absolutely love it, but I've had one serious system failure episode recently. The issue has been resolved, but it has me thinking that simpler may be better. Thinking about the diesel for fuel economy and longevity, so I'm curious how you'd compare the 2.0 with the diesel. My apologies if you've already compared these two...maybe I just haven't seen it!

Hey Matt, gotta tip my hat to you, your content, and your well-deserved upward trajectory with this channel. I *knew* you looked familiar, turned out it was from at least two different places! I work in the live streaming world on the engineering side of things, and for whatever it's worth, you're kicking butt and taking names with this content, pacing, production, viewer interaction... everything! Can't wait to watch this channel skyrocket. I recently picked up a 392XR (after an 8 month wait), and am currently spec'ing a 2dr JL build with the 2.0 for my fiancee. A couple questions for you: 1) Do you anticipate the factory adding dealer options (sometime soon, or ever?) for dual-door on the newer colors? Follow up - is there a "minimum" trim level we'll want to consider to be able to have the half doors? She really wants an Earl JL with half doors, but it appears we can't get that quite yet. Any insight would be super appreciated :) 2) With the announcement of the Recon and the continuing success of the 4xe, I'm anticipating my next jeep after the 392 will be a fully electric Wrangler. That's a ways away I know, but it'll be super fun. In the meantime, I really like the idea of having the 2dr 2.0 to balance out the monster 392 for around town/commuting, or ya know, when I don't want to wake the neighbors. Do you feel the 2.0 is a decent choice for that balance? Thanks again for all your hard work, and for encouraging the community to get out there and earn ours!
@DIRTROADCRED
@DIRTROADCRED Жыл бұрын
I really appreciate the kind words! Ryan and I do our best to make great content every week! As far as the limited colors getting half doors, I don’t see it happening in the future, there isn’t a minimum trim to get them, certain lower trims can only get standard uppers though! I have the 2.0 and love it, it’s a great commuting engine especially in the 2 door!

First time Jeep owner here and I did extensive research for months to try to find what I wanted. I had always wanted a 2 door as a 3rd car for fun, but got sick of waiting. I barely have to drive highway, and most days I'm on roads 50mph and work at home a lot. That said, it made it a much easier choice to daily this (and get the 4 door for kids). I wanted the Rubicon for the potential, and plan to off road it in all situations. Got a great deal on a 22' that had some highway miles, in the color I wanted, checked all the boxes and then it was all down to wanting the I4 or not. So far, no complaints at all. I haven't taken it into anything overly challenging yet but I'm looking forward to doing so! My previous car was 2011 Liberty that actually got worse MPG than this does. It's plenty capable off road. I don't know why I waited so long to get one. Thanks for the channel, super helpful for newbies like me.

I love this engine also. One thing I have heard people who don't have one complain about is the loss of control when you are off-roading and the turbo kicks in. This is a problem I have never had. I have never had a sudden boost of power while trying to get over an obstacle. Precision control of the throttle is a must and this delivers. I also love the fuel economy. Driving from Denver to Crested Butte and back I can easily get 30mpg if I don't have a lead foot going up the mountains.

I was skeptical about this engine but after nearly 2 years I am really glad I got it. Plus, it is all my dealer had in stock at the end of 2020, so it was either 2.0 or no Jeep. Also, I live in Idaho at nearly 5000ft above sea level, so the turbo really helps at this altitude. I have a 2021 Sport with take-off Rubicon wheels and tires with 12K miles

My wife has a 2.0T in her 2019 JL. When I factory ordered my 2022 JL, I went with the 3.6 thinking that it was going to be far and away better than the 2.0T already in our garage. Man was I wrong. Now, in full disclosure, my other vehicle is a 2022 RAM Rebel with the 5.7 HEMI. But my 3.6 feels very disappointing compared to the 2.0T, even my 2004 TJ with the 4.0.

I just bought a 2022 Wrangler Rubicon 2.0L. I was hesitant at first but after driving both the 2.0 turbocharged model and the 3.6 v-6, and what I’ve found out about the V-6, there was no question. I had thought about the 392, but since my wife will be the primary driver, and I already have a Hemi in my ‘20 Ram Limited, I figured she’d like the 2.0, and she does. I’m have power steps put on it on Monday, she’s short on one end. And I recently installed the trays and cell phone holders you had recommended, she likes those too. My Rubicon came with the Mopar rubber floor mats instead of the carpet floor mats, which I’m happy about. We ordered white with white roof panels and fenders.

I test drove a 3.6 Gladiator and I think the dogginess comes from the lack of the E-Torque system after driving both. If they didn't offer the 3.6 E-Torque (I got it because not too many people talk or do videos on them) I would've gone with the 2.0L Turbo as my wife did in her Jeep.

I agree with much of what you said, I too have owned many jeeps from a 1950 CJ3 flatfender with a chevy V-8 to my 2021 Jl wrangler unlimited. This engine is surprising, but the surprise I didn't like was at 10 months and 4,000 miles, the cloud of steam coming up from under my hood at a red light, and the stream of water running out from under it when I parked. Apparently, 3 little bolts at the thermostat housing ? loosen up, and it is a fairly frequent report in the jeep forums. Fortunately, the dealer got to it quickly, it was a simple fix, and I was back on the road after one day. Other than that I really like this engine and my jeep

You are getting better gas mileage with the 2.0T but only use premium. My 2015 3.6 is averaging 19.0 city and highway using regular and still running strong with 80k and no issues. Premium in my state is about a $1.10 a gallon more than regular. With a 22.5 gallon tank on the four door, you'll save around $25 each fill up using regular vs premium. With the 2.0T you'll get around an extra 67 miles on the 22.5 gallon using premium but you'll still save with the 3.6 using regular. But then again we don't buy jeep wranglers to worry about gas prices. Enjoy!

In '21 I bought my wife a Wrangler Unlimited Sport Altitude with the 2l Turbo. Early in '21 I bought myself a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the 3.6l. Both engines have their virtues but I would definitely get the 2l turbo in the Wrangler. It has tons of torque, is very responsive, and gets shockingly good fuel economy for a vehicle that has the aerodynamics of a brick. It actually gets better mileage than the GC even though the GC is much more aerodynamic - and it gets much better fuel economy in city driving. The fact that Jeep quit pairing the 2l to the Etorque system is a great plus IMO - it is much less complex and will help long term reliability.

Picked up a 2022 Sport S with the 3.0 V6 Turbo Diesel in April. I test drove the 2.0 and did not like it. It got up and moved ok, but it didn't feel right. I wanted the 3.6, but there weren't any in stock in any dealership nearby with the features I wanted. So I ended up taking the plunge with the diesel. I've got ~7200 miles on it now and couldn't be happier. I drive a mix of freeway and city as well as taking a trip from Wisconsin into the Ozarks and back. My average fuel economy has been ~27-28 mpg. On long freeway runs I can get up to 32 mpg. I love the torque on the diesel and couldn't be happier. Hope your 2.0 makes you as happy as my diesel made me. But hey, we're driving Jeeps, so we should be smiling!

I had the 2.0 in a 2018 Sport that I built... it was great as a daily driver, though I needed the iDrive to help me offroad (a bit too much power off the line that needed to be controlled) & I think the build slowed it down. However, I really do prefer the eTorque I have with the Xtreme Recon package. It's got pep & boogies down the road. I found that the 2.0 sometimes struggled to get out of its own way, especially up hills at speed on the interstate. And of course, I tow a camper so the larger engine is obviously working better for me... even with the loss of gas mileage.
