Going to the smithing locations is not the same as it was, it is a downgrade even if Sindri was at all the locations, it still would not be the same. They screwed up when it comes to removing that character from an interactions pov. However in terms of story it was perfectly done. It hit hard and had meaning, just like the way he died. But if I could choose which dwarf would be at the upgrade locations, it would be Brok everytime. Even if it breaks immersion and the story.
