Fun fact: if you are ever in Ralph's situation, where you have someone whose impulse is to do things like looking back or down when they really *shouldn't* - a good way to counteract this on your end is to instead use alternatives. Instead of "don't look back" you can say "focus on my face!". It's painful and frustrating at times, but people who feel close to death don't consciously think anymore a lot of the time. This is why you aren't supposed to rescue drowning people if they struggle, for example. Their behavior becomes irrational enough to drag down others with them. Their unconscious part of the brain can also cut out "not' from sentences, which apparently happens outside of stress situations too. Therapists will tell their patients to avoid self affirmations containing the word "not" because those can backfire instead.
@mary-janereallynotsarah6846 ай бұрын
Yeah never tell people don't look down. There's a lot of guided relaxation meditations online that I hate because they don't understand the core principles of what's relaxing. They keep saying stuff like let go of stress... all I think of then is stress. They say don't think about what's stressing u... obviously I think about what's stressing me. They should only focus on the positive stuff. "Ur feeling light and good and blah blah blah" Honestly so many make these mistakes I just avoid guided meditations. I might enjoy them if I could trust them.

Dear LH: You did an excellent job (as always) narrating this story. However, I must point out that, while not actually plagiarism, this author took their plot from a short story by Stephen King entitled "One for the Road", that was published in a book compilation of short stories by King published in 1978. The book was called "Night Shift".
@joeygoodwin9629 Жыл бұрын
Hey Max, author of the story here! Believe it or not man, I actually didn't even know about the Stephen King short story you're referencing, or the anthology it was in until after I'd posted that story, and someone left a comment with the title. Trust me, I had a momentary rush of panic when someone who knew about it explained to me how similar my story's setup was to it, as I didn't want to be seen as taking anything from any other author, big or small!
